I've been here 3 times with my dog. The first 2 times were nothing special, got in, got examined, paid, got out. However, this time was atrocious. Now that Corona is around they asked me to stay in my car and the vet would come out and get my dog. cool. I get there 10 min early and call them to let them know I'm outside. They confirm and let me know the vet is running 20 min late. I'm not happy about it but life happens. End up waiting another 40min past my appointment with no updates. I decide to leave. When I get home I call the office and ask "what happened"? They say "Is this Mr._____", me "yes it is, what happened, I've been waiting outside and it's cold, I had to leave". Male Receptionist states "oh she went outside and you weren't there, would you like to reschedule"? I then ask him the important questions; why didn't you update me when we passed the 20 min mark?, If she came out and I wasn't there - why didn't you call me?, Is this how you treat your customers". To which he replied, "THIS IS HOW WE DO THINGS HERE, again would you like to reschedule?" Why would I want to reschedule if this is how you treat your customers? No thank you! I then asked to speak to the Vet and the receptionist made up some more excuses until I finally asked him to just have the vet call me when she can. Seriously poor customer service and complete unwillingness to acknowledge short comings.

IF I'M WRONG PLEASE ADVISE, BUT I'VE CALLED THEM TWICE TO SEE IF THEY WERE TAKING NEW PATIENTS AND BOTH TIMES WAS TOLD NO. THEY EVEN PROVIDE BOARDING SERVICES, WHICH IS VERY UNUSUAL AND SOMETHING I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO DO FOR MY TWO PUREBRED CATS ($$$). BUT THEY ARE NOT, NOT, NOT TAKING NEW PATIENTS SO I JUST THINK IT'S IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT. WISH THEY WERE!!! HAVE HEARD THEY ARE EXCELLENT, AND IT WOULD BE MORE OF A DRIVE FOR ME BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WOULD BE WORTH IT. AGAIN IF I'M WRONG PLEASE ADVISE! THIS IS MY ATTEMPT TO GET MY CATS IN, IN CASE THEY HAVE A PATIENT WHO LEAVES!!!

We have taken all of our pets and foster pets to Dr. Carlson for...well, forever. She is kind, knowledgeable, calm, and professional. Plus, she will make you feel like your pet is the most important pet in the world...because to her, at that moment, it is.

I love Howard Street Animal Hospital, they have cared for both my dogs since 2010. Dr. Ball was who we started with but he has since moved to California. Now we see Dr. Carlson, who is wonderful! She takes her time with you, answers any and all questions. The office is very clean. This is not the vet for you if you want a fancy office, very simple, very clean, very good staff who cares!
I cannot imagine going anywhere else for the care of my boys!

As always, I was completely satisfied with the cleanliness of the facility, the care and compassion of the staff, and the professionalism of everyone involved. Dr. Carlson is the best vet I have ever encountered. She is highly knowledgeable, sensitive to both pet and owners needs, and calm under the direst of circumstances. When my dog was having a stroke, she got on the phone with me, calmed me down, and gave me clear information about what would happen and what to do. Once at her office, she allowed me to stay with my dog in the initial phases of the treatment, until I was satisfied that she was stable. When I had to make the inevitable, and inevitably heartbreaking, decision to put my 20 year old cat down, Dr. Carlson arranged for me to bring the cat in when the hospital was closed so I could have privacy and allowed me to stay my cat while they put her down. My animals always outlive the average, and I am convinced it is partly due to the great health care they get from Dr. Carlson.

They are fabulous. They are wonderful. They are remarkable. His cancer was a very expensive deal, finding and understanding what to do about it. He was operated on it. The last few months of his life doesn't count in terms of expense. He had some health issues. The animal clinic diagnosed him correctly and I dealt with it at a reasonable cost. I think their charges are reasonable, they are excellent people, and they are very compassionate. They are very good professionals. I will go back to them in a heartbeat. They are the best I have ever used. At one time, I couldn't pick up his medicine, it was a blizzard and Dr. Carlson got it in her car and brought it to me; she is amazing. She has a four-wheel drive and she just drove it over. I recommend them absolutely to everyone.

They are great. They saved my dogs life on 2 occasions. The care is excellent. The people are knowledgeable. They are compassionate, caring, and sensable. They go out of thier way. I couldn't get out because we had a blizzard and i needed medicine for my dog and the doctor drove it to my house in her jeep. It's like a small town service in a very big city. It's amazing and extrodinary.

Dr. Carlson performed her usual thorough and compassionate job in initial wellness checks for both of our newly adopted cats. These last visits to Howard Street Animal Hospital were simple wellness checks. But we have had a 20-year relationship with Dr. Carlson. Our previous cats were litter-mates. Thanks in large part to Dr. Carlson's exceptional care, both of these alley cats lived long and comfortablby happy lives. Both had had significant poor health episodes or wounds, but Dr. Carlson and the Howard Street Animal Hospital provided exceptional care. One made it to 18 and the other died at 21. I cannot imagine a finer veterinary practice.

My dog has been going to Howard Street ever since I moved back to Evanston 3 years ago. Because I choose not to vaccinate my cats due to severe reactions both of them had, I had been using a vet that comes to your house for their care as I was told that if I brought them to vet's office, they would need to be vaccinated. One of my cats developed a mass on her back which, while not big, was still something I wanted looked at. She was acting normally in every other aspect, still eating and playing and not exhibiting any medical issues. The mass was also not growing at all. The first vet did a cursory examination by just feeling the mass and, even though I told her that my cat seemed fine and the mass was not growing, she scared me by telling me it was serious and she needed to go to a specialty clinic in Buffalo Grove right away. I called the clinic immediately and they said they could see her in a couple of days and that I needed to prepare her as if she were having surgery, "just in case the Dr. wanted to do something right away." I had also explained that my cat was not vaccinated and why she wasn't and I was told that she would have to have her vaccinations when she came in. After the initial panic, I calmed down and thought things over and decided to get a second opinion from Dr. Carlson at Howard Street. She was able to see me right away and after a careful exam and listening to me, she said that the mass was probably a lipoma but to keep an eye on it and her and to bring her back in six months or sooner if there were any changes. Dr. Carlson spent well over an hour with us and never made me feel rushed. My cat continues to be fine and Howard Street Animal Hospital will be the only place my pets will go for their care.

They are on Angie's List and they have excellent rating. Their staff is extremely compassionate and caring. They are very knowledgeable. I have been a dog trainer for thirty five years and they are by far the best veterinarians that I have ever come across. I have used them for the past twenty years.

If I could give them an A+ I would. Dr Ball was attentive to our dog and when we had follow up questions they called us back that night. I was very impressed by their professionalism and attentiveness to our needs.

They were always available to talk to me on the phone as well as see my cat with little notice as the disease progressed.

My cat, who is a very loving, intelligent Siamese Tom was called a nasty, mean cat by this vet. The vet stated that he hated our cat. These sentiments were expressed on 3 different occasions. The vet said these things because our cat hissed at him while getting a shot, and protested when the vet wanted to trim his nails. Furthermore, in other people's hands (a friend of mine who is a cat lover) the cat behaves well when having his nails clipped.

They are concise and provide good follow up. Though they are a small vet's office with one exam room, their rates are competitive for the area and they don't push unnecessary test on my pets. Only sometimes, due to the single exam room, I have to wait a bit.

I love Dr. Carlson at this location. She has a great rapport with the animals. They easily fit us in for an appointment when I need one. When we get there, we rarely have to wait long. At most, it has been half an hour but usually it is much faster. She has seen our cats since they were babies.
