Gorman Carpentry and Home Renovation

Lucky and Christian (and the rest of their crew) were great to work with for my bathroom remodel. This was the first full remodel of the bathroom in my 100+ year old house. We encountered some surprises along the way which made a simple remodel more complicated. At each new surprise, Christian suggested a solution which would ensure that I would be happy with this remodel for years and years. Whether doing the demo, re-framing, plumbing, tile work, or final paint and trim, their work was impeccable....and they were very careful to keep my home clean.

It was great. Christian showed up when he said he’d show up and did the work. 3 hours later, it was repaired, clean and totally fixed.

We were very happy with the team who painted our bedrooms. The walls were in bad shape and they did a beautiful job smoothing them out. They were extremely neat and you wouldn't have known they were here when they finished. They also solved a lighting issue for us while they were here. Thank you!

In July of 2022 we hired Gorman Restoration to refinish our front door. The carpenter stripped the old, wood veneer and replaced it with new veneer that was then stained a beautiful dark walnut. Unfortunately, in less than a year the veneer began to peel off. I contacted the owner, Lucky and he honored the warranty. The door was redone at no cost and it looks better than before. Also, the carpenter was able strip the veneer and then showed me that the wood underneath was in excellent condition, so he stained the wood without adding the veneer. So much better and without the worries of the veneer peeling off due to heat and moisture. I highly recommend this company.

Awful experience. Lots of promises and even more under-delivery. Hired him to strip and stain my deck. They talked me into replacing the decking and then staining it. Deck now looks worse than it did prior to the work. The stain has left dark spots in multiple areas, and in some instances Im convinced they used paint and not stain as it looks like a completely different surface. They also left a pile of extra wood on our driveway for multiple weeks. that I eventually had to pay to have taken away. One of his freelance crew members came out to review the work and indicated that they clearly did not apply the stain correctly, and indicated he they would likely have to redo the whole project. Weve called multiple times to have him address it. Always told were at the top of his list but he never shows. Its going on two months now and we written him off. Do not hire Gorman Restoration

His proposal came in at $2,600 for the storm window portion of the project. His proposal stated it would take a "Team of two journeyman carpenters for installation over two days." This implied it would take 32 hours to install 6 storm windows. I know for a fact I could install each window in an hour or even less. I emailed him thanking him for his proposal but I decided to go with someone else. He called me to see what he could do to earn my business. I told him his price was almost triple what Evanston Windows had proposed so I decided to go with Evanston Windows. Before I could finish my explanation he literally hung up the phone on me. So I called him back to check if we were disconnected. He said were not disconnected and said he did just hang up on me. Super rude and unnecessary. He could have at least ended the conversation with a "good bye" versus hanging up on me while I was politely explaining why I went with another company.

The job turned out great. We are very pleased and plan on using Lucky again on some other projects we have in mind.

Very professional job.  Came in with tarps for the floors.  Knew exactly what they had to do to resolve my issues.  Very happy with the service provided and would definitely recommend for electrical projects.

Overall, it took over a month to complete both parts. Got the deck repairs done quickly but then waited for weeks for the wash/stain. To be fair, some delays were due to weather and others because they did not order the stain in advance. I was satisfied with the deck repairs although I thought the price was high for the amount of time they spent. The cleaning and staining went better....the stain was hand applied.

Lucky and his team were great. They arrived on time and were very professional. Gorman Restoration provided quality work at a great price. I would highly recommend Gorman Restoration! 

Worker appeared on time and completed job in expeditions manner. Quality of work is excellent! Color matches exactly after he utilized his own paint.

Horrible. This has been a nightmare. They took my deposit, made me purchase 4 gallons of paint from their friend, told me they would complete a list of work satisfactorily. None of this was accomplished. The pressure washing wasn't complete and they had to send someone out to redo. When the "painters" arrived they had no idea what the project was because Lucky subcontracted them and never gave them details. They started the job but stopped and left the stairs blotchy and unfinished. They also spilled the stain on the concrete and now it won't come out. They left without providing me an update or a date when they would return to finish the job. Lucky never returns emails, calls, or texts. I finally called and emailed and said not to come back. Of course he hasn't even bothered to call and apologize for destroying my property. I will be looking for someone to finish the job. Save yourself the hassle. Read the reviews . The bad ones are true. The good ones are clearly lying or bribed by him. After the first meeting he told me he would pay me to write a good review. Guess they needed the $5!

I initially inquired on line, and they called me that day. The job was scheduled for the following day. Brian did a good job and did it well. We talked about what could be done and the most reasonable way it could be taken care. I am pleased with the final product.

They came promptly to an emergency call to replace a broken pane of glass.

Did a great job replacing the glass, staining the door and replacing hardware on the outer doors.

Happy with them and will use in future.

Overall, we were satisfied with our end results, however, because of the in between drama, I would probably not use this company again. Read below for details.
Lucky was recommended to us through our leasing agent. He gave us a reasonable quote for the painting work that we needed done so we went with his company. From what I understand, he contracts out all of his work. So, you tell him what you need and he finds the people to do it. Here is where it got dicey. The people he originally got to do our work said it was going to require more work than originally thought and would cost more, they tried to take advantage of me and wanted to go under the table. Very shady. After a lot of back and forth, that painter quit in the middle of the job and Lucky had to find someone new to do the job. The next guy was GREAT and got all of the work done in a very professional, timely and quality manner. Thankfully, there was no lapse in time between subcontractors and the work was finished in a timely manner and the work got done. Lucky was professional throughout it all but there was a lot of arguing about price. However, when all was said and done, he got the work done for not too much more than our original quote. Because of the drama, I would probably not go back for future services but I can't speak poorly about his quality, responsiveness or punctuality because the end result was positive and we were overall happy. If it were not for the poor quality of character of his original painters, there would have been no problem.

Most expensive deck sealing I ever had. Provider tried to tell me in middle of project that he had mismeasured and wanted to charge even more!!! I refused and he did honor his original quote.

This service was absolutely terrible. I could have done better work. He was never punctual. The bathroom work created a leak that came down into the kitchen which had just been repainted.

They provided great service and were prompt. They did a great job.

They did an awesome job, showed up at scheduled times and were very communicative about when they would be at my home (which was great because I had to arrange to work from home).  They also fixed it immediately and the pricing was very reasonable.  I am super impressed and would recommend them to anyone and certainly use them in the future.
