Everything went well. These were custom windows that were parallelogram shaped and not openable; outside access was from 2nd floor roof. Our local glass shop did not want anything to do with replacing them. Mr. Sheridan measured and ordered replacements, installed them, and went out on the roof to caulk them. The whole thing cost more then we'd anticipated, but that's probably typical. We're glad to have it done.

I spent around $90 on that work. We had no problems with him. He came on time and on short notice. He started the work right away and was quick and efficient.

Charles is a solid handyman with a common sense approach to fixing things. In my case, I needed a few little odds and ends done to our doors. One or two needed to be planed, a few needed door latch readjustments. Charles fixed the problems and did minimal disruption where possible. He planed down in the garage. One of the doors is uneven at the top. The planing was done to solve the problem but the quality of the planing didn't take into consideration minimizing a sloped plane at the top. With regard to another one of the small jobs on a door latch, Charles forgot to complete that particular job. I called him maybe a half-hour later and he made good and came back to finish the job. Last thing - when Charles backed his truck into our driveway, he accidentally hit our basketball rim. It was slightly tweaked. He apologized and we set to work on cranking it back to be straight. I didn't mind it because he is a good guy. I'd have him back to the house to do similar work again.

The overall removal and installation went very well. The only problem was when the manufacture first sent the wrong size frame and then also sent the wrong color frame. It was all their error. Charlie worked with the manufacture to get it all straightened out, at their cost, etc. He was very pleasant to work with and made me aware of why he wanted to do certain things during the actual installation. It was not an easy project but he did a fantastic job. Highly recommend.

Charles was very responsive and came the same day as I called to look at the door and give an estimate. He came back a couple days later with the correct equipment and fixed the door without any problem. We are now asking Charles to come back to do some work on our other doors (change dead bolts, etc).

In the beginning, I was very impressed with Charlie. He was very pleasant and professional. He came and examined the doorway where a swinging door once hung and took some measurements to advise us on what kind of French doors would fit. We helped us find a lumber company that sold the doors we wanted and worked with us to order the correct one. When the door was delivered to our home, we made arrangements to have Charlie install the door. This is where my confidence began to waive. He came on a Saturday with his teen son who he constantly yelled at. When Charlie started cutting the metal door frame off the wall, he found clay bricks behind it and became distressed. He wanted to call a masonry expert in to cut the bricks down to the required door frame size, before he realized he could cut the bricks themselves because they were soft. Not using a carpenter's anthem of measuring twice and cutting once, Charlie "eyeballed" the opening and cut as much as saw fit. In the process he allowed the masonry materials to crash on our tile floors, which he chipped a few. Since the clay bricks were soft, Charlie wanted to think it through and return another day after he found a way to secure the door in the wall. He called me later that day and wanted to come back to secure wood rods into the bricks using construction adhesive to be able to complete the job. He returned the following Monday and then realized he had cut the whole too big. He hoped the door trim would conceal this. On Monday, he also trimmed all the doors that were sticking and did a great job. Charlie returned on Friday to hang the door but didn't install the dummy door handles because he had problems with the set screws. My wife returned to the store where she had purchased the door handles and they tool her that there was nothing wrong with them. When I saw current installation, I was very disappointed in the craftsmanship. It looks like Charlie used a nail gun to install the trim which now looks like it was modeled after the Bonnie & Clyde car. What's more there are a number of gashes in the plaster that I now need to repair, and one section in which you can see clear into the other room. Instead of leaving one piece of the trim off so I can have a plaster expert come in and repair the wall, Charlie nailed all down. (He offered to come and take it off - but I refused.) The door seems hung properly, but at a big price. Chipped floor tiles, holes in the plaster and messes everywhere Charlie worked (scraps of would littered my yard). I now have to putty what seems like hundreds of nail holes in the trim before I can paint it, need to fix the base modeling that's now ajar due to the door frame and need to do some extensive plaster patching. I was not prepared for this kind of addition work.

"THIS CUSTOMER WAS FOREWARNED THAT THERE MIGHT BE WALL DAMAGE IN REMOVING A STEEL DOOR JAMB FROM THE WALL. I EXPLAINED TO HIM THAT ANY WALL DAMAGE WAS HIS RESPONSIBILITY. WE DID CHIP ONE FLOOR TILE IN REMOVING THE FRAME FROM THIS BLOCK WALL. HE POINTED OUT THE CHIP, BUT HE DID NOT REQUEST ANY CORRECTION. HE COMPLEMENTED ME ON COMING UP WITH A SOLUTION TO ANCHOR THE DOOR FRAME TO THIS SOFT BLOCK WALL: WE GLUED SECTIONS OF STAIR RAIL TO THE HOLES IN THE BLOCK, AND THEN ANCHORED THE DOOR FRAME TO THESE SECTIONS. THIS WAS A 3 STEP PROCESS: DEMOLITION, GLUE BLOCKS AND WAIT, SET DOOR FRAME. HE SEEMS TO THINK THAT HOLES IN TRIMWORK ARE AVOIDABLE WHEN NAILING. IT IS THE PAINTERS JOB TO FILL HOLES OR SMALL CREVICES AS PART OF PAINT PREPARATION. THE DOOR HARDWARE THAT HE PURCHASED HAD SET SCREWS THAT I COULD NOT TURN: I ASKED THEM TO FIX OR REPLACE HARDWARE AND THEN I WOULD RETURN TO INSTALL THE HARDWARE. HE DECLINED TO LET ME FINISH HANDLE INSTALLATION. THE JOB PRICE FOR THIS DOUBLE DOOR INSTALLATION WAS $550: HE BOUGHT THE DOOR HIMSELF. I DID ADDITIONAL WORK IN THE HOUSE ON FIVE OTHER DOORS. HE WAS UNHAPPY THAT I HAD INSTALLED ALL THE DOOR CASING: HE FELT THAT I SHOULD HAVE LEFT OFF 1 PIECE FOR WALL REPAIR. I OFFERED TO RETURN AND REMOVE THE CASING; I TOLD HIM "DON"T BE UNHAPPY, I'LL COME BACK AND DO WHAT YOU WANT". HE DECLINED."

Things went GREAT. Other people had come out to my place and turned the job down because they said it was too hard. Charles and his son did a fantastic job! They were both very professional and extremely knowledgeable about their job. He even went the extra mile and caulked the door to close up any gaps. I highly recommend Charlie and would definitely use his services again as well. Additionally, the door I purchased was a really high end Larson door. I would also recommend this door to anyone. It is heavy and has a bolt lock for extra safety. It has made an extremely visible difference in the temp. in my condo.

I was very satisfied with the Charles' work. Before the job began, he was very clear about pricing and scheduling. Once the work started, he worked efficiently and on schedule. He stayed on schedule even with my two children constantly interrupting him. He never failed to take time to joke with them and answer their questions. Charles went above and beyond our contract in other ways. We ran into several problems with the doors I ordered from Evanston Lumber. Charles took it upon himself at his own time and expense to be my advocate there and saw that the problems were taken care of. Charles' carpentry was also of high quality. I was able leave him to his work, confident he d do a good job. On the rare occasions I had a questions or concerns, Charles was extremely responsive and addressed my concerns immediately no matter how trivial. I would certainly use Charles Sheridan again, and would also recommend him to others.

He changed his rate when he got to my home. He was 10 minutes late. The son part of the team didn't work hard and seemed half asleep. They didn't clean their hands after cleaning my gutters so when they were doing other jobs they left some smudge marks. When they cleaned my gutters they left the pile of wet leaves in my yard and didn't bag up or take away. He asked me to call to remind him of the appointment which seemed unprofessional.

Very poor. Told us he was busy but that his son could perform the work under his close supervision. When he and his son showed up for the work, he berated his son relentlessly and gave our tenant impression that the work would be performed in a substandard manner and that the son didn't have a clue what he was doing. The father ended up supervising the work, but completed the work much later than he had promised. He was obnoxious, rude and belligerent to us and our tenant. He broke the tenant's lamp while the job was underway and never came through with a check to reimburse him, so we had to short his payment to make sure the tenant would be made whole. He looked for every opportunity to up the cost of the project (for example, told us he'd go to Home Depot 1/2 mile away to pick up tile, but then insisted on a $50 delivery fee). Overall, he was absolutely terrible to work with, and I feel sorry for his son who works with him. I can't imagine why he was rated highly on Angie s List.

"CUSTOMER HAD PROVIDED ME WITH NEW TILE THAT DID NOT MATCH THE OLD TILE. I REFUSED TO INSTALL THE NEW NON-MATCHING TILE WITHOUT WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS TO DO SAME. THIS ARCHITECT BECAME ANGRY AND STALLED FOR TWO DAYS:I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND THIS BECAUSE ARCHITECTS ARE NORMALLY FAMILIAR WITH WRITING CHANGE ORDERS ON CONTRACTS. HE FINALLY RELENTED AND AUTHORIZED ME TO PROVIDE MATCHING TILE THAT WE INSTALLED AND COMPLETED TWO DAYS AFTER CHANGE ORDER WAS RECEIVED. IT IS NONE OF HIS BUSINESS IF I BARK ORDERS AT MY SON OR A HELPER AS LONG AS MY LANGUAGE IS NOT SALTY. WE DID THE JOB FOR THE ORIGINAL BID PRICE WHICH WAS 500 DOLLARS. I DID CHARGE HIM EXTRA FOR THE ADDITIONAL TILE THAT I HAD TO PURCHASE AND I DID CHARGE HIM $50 EXTRA TO LOCATE AND PURCHASE AND DELIVER THE ADDITIONAL TILE. THE TENANT WAS REIMBURSED FOR THE BROKEN LAMP."

He arrived promptly and on time for the estimate. He diagnosed correctly our problem with our outside doors. He saved us $1500 at least on our condo door by saying we did not really need a new solid core door, that unless it could open out (it cannot for lack of room in the hall), it would not accomplish what we wanted. Instead he recommended a much cheaper alternative. He called before he came to do the work to tell us what time he would arrive. He arrived at the stated time. His workmanship was impeccable. He worked quickly and efficiently. He returned promptly to make a minor adjustment caused by extreme heat and humidity after his original work and showed me how to do it in the future. I would recommend him to anyone needing an honest, knowledgeable, skilled craftsman.

Mr. Sheridan clearly knows what he is doing, and the work when finished is of good quality. The problem is that his concept of scheduling and the relationship of his specifications and cost estimates to actual completed work and charges are rather free-floating. This makes him appear to be gaming the client, and thus he is difficult to work with if your knowledge of carpentry and appropriateness of charges is not extensive.

Charlie was great! He is polite, trustworthy, and likes dogs! He repaired all the doors and they work like new. The front porch is more secure now than the day it was built. Charlie went above and beyond what we expected. He added a door stop and a mechanism to keep one door from over-extending when open. He explained in detail what he needed to do in order for it to be done properly and he did it. He guarantees his work for a year, but with the quality of work he does, I don't expect I'll need to call him back on these projects. I won't call anyone but Charlie in the future. Charlie is the best!

HE ARRIVED FOR AN INITIAL INSPECTION AND DISCUSSION AND GAVE ONE PRICE WITH AN OPTION OF A STRAIGHT CONTRACT PRICE OR TIME AND MATERIALS, WHICH EVER IS LESS. THAT PRICE CHANGED. I DID QUITE A LOT OF DEMOLITION WORK BEFORE HE ARRIVED, REMOVING ANY UNKNOWN SITUATIONS WITH REGARD TO PLUMING, HEATING OR ELECTRICAL. AT THE END OF THE PROJECT HE CLAIMED HE DID NOT GIVE ME THE CHOICE. I FEEL I PAID TOO HIGH A PRICE FOR WHAT I RECEIVED. HE DID GOOD WORK. WHEN WE TRIED TO DISCUSS THE PAYMENT ISSUE, HE WAS UNWILLING TO LISTEN AND HAVE A REASONABLE DISCUSSION. I WOULD NOT HIRE HIM AGAIN.

A PREVIOUS INSTALLER HAD MANAGED TO PUT IN ONE DOOR AND PRONOUNCED THE OTHERS UNINSTALLABLE DUE TO THE TIGHT DIMENSIONS AND ASYMMETRY OF THE OTHER DOORWAYS. ANOTHER COUPLE DECLINED THE WORK. CHARLIE INSTALLED 6 WITHOUT HAVING TO MAKE ANY CHANGES TO THE DOORWAYS AND 3 WITH SOME ADDITIONAL WORK. THE QUALITY OF THE WORK WAS EXCELLENT AND HE IS A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH.
