We have worked with Brian on a number of occasions and he’s a true professional. He’s knowledgeable, thorough, responsive, timely, and he cares about his customers. Very highly recommended.

They did a thorough exam of the air, and they found some impurities, and they made a recommendation for a company to come and clean up as needed. Very Responsive and very professional. But the visit itself costs $400, plus the test of the air sample they took was $125, and that for me is a high priced service.

I highly recommend Brian Bussey. He's a valuable asset to his profession. He spent a long time talking by phone and listening - and then made recommendations for what needed to be done and who to call. He's clearly honest, knowledgable, and thoughtful about the analysis of the issue in my home. It was decided that we really didn't need his services. He didn't charge me for his time and expertise. I offered to pay for his time but he refused payment.

BUSSEY ENVIRONMENTAL, INC was extremely knowledgeable and explained the testing process both at our appointment and on the phone. We had a small area that required mold remediation and  were very pleased with the removal service whom BUSSEY ENVIRONMENTAL recommended and post inspection/testing process by BEI afterwards.
The price of testing was higher than we expected but overall BEI is professional and cares about the quality of workmanship. Bussey uses reputable labs staffed by licensed mycologists to evaluate results from samples gathered during onsite testing.
This provides an independent knowledgeable source to confirm the problem was resolved.
It should be noted that Spectrum Remediation Services (Aurora) did the removal of old wall paper that had mold due to wheat paste. Their price was very fair compared to others services that was many times the amount.  We were pleased with Sprectum and Bussey's services.

I looked on Angie's List and contacted Brian with a possible asbestos issue. The material was there before we bought the house and we never knew about it. Because it appeared to be a material, used as a heat barrier, where asbestos was mixed into concrete, and it is non-friable, the issue arose as to whether it is better to leave it in place or remove it. I did internet research on the issue and would call Brian to talk about it. There is the science and there is the practicality. If it  is safe undistrubed, do you want to disturb it? But if you don't disturb it, you have issues if you want to make chagnes to other systems in your house; so do you keep making compromises to leave the stuff alone or do you just hire the right people to do the remediation? I would do internet research and then call Brian to discuss. He would always answer my calls and tell me his thoughts, explain to me how things worked, and how the testing would fit into the project. Although Brian would only get a fee from me if I did the remediation, he never tried to convince me to do the remediation. He was always the impartial, expert adviser - and in the end, when I did do the remediation and did use Brian to do the air clearance test, Brian was the trusted friend who made doing the project less worrisome. He did not need a long lead time to set the date for the test, his licensed technician was polite and on time. The testing results came in even before schedule, he called me as soon as he knew the good results, and the written report followed shortly thereafter. Brian insists on doing things the right way. He has integrity, which is reassuring. I recommend Brian.

Brian was fantastic.  I called him as I began thinking of a basement and bathroom renovation project.  He surveyed the areas and pointed out items of potential concern.  His knowledge was impressive as was his professionalism.  He told me that all of the items of concern were in good condition and really didn't even require testing unless we were going to do the renovations and disturb them.  He spoke with me at length about the different types of asbestos and when it causes concern.  We eventually decided to do the work in the basement and when we tore out the drywall ceiling we found the type or pipe wrap Brian had described. Because we were coming up on a holiday weekend, he rushed over to take samples of everything and made sure that the testing company expedited my test results. When some of the material tested positive for asbestos, Brian and the remediation company he recommended made themselves available immediately and did the clean up and monitoring over the holiday weekend so that we could use our wash machine and resume construction the next business day. Brian could not have been more knowledgeable or responsive.

We found Brian to be completely professional, knowledgeable, and ethical.  Unlike some people in this business, he gave us what I felt was an accurate assessment of the problem and the risks -- there are unfortunately some who would portray an issue being worse or scarier than it is in order to get more business.  He gave us some good and practical advice on remediation and he explained things well.  He was very generous with his time, and very responsive when I left messages with questions.  I found him to be very trustworthy, and I would use him again in a second.  I do think he is one of, if not the, best in the Chicago area.

He was very thorough, he was very good at educating my clients on what he did and what to look. It was suspected that there was a crack in the foundation and it was a water damage that these people were covering up and he definitely said that they were having a water damage down there. He did some kind of testing if there was mold in the area, there was like an area where you could see where moisture could come through. He was reasonable with price. He was pretty responsive.

I would highly recommend Bussey Environmental. It was obvious he is extremely thorough, knowledgeable, and generally knew much more on the subject than the original company we used for remediation.

I'm not impressed with this service.  Got the test back and no indication of mold.  There were spores, but no mold.  He examined my floor and said that the black spots growing in the wood and bottom of the carpet, and water rings all over the back of the carpet  were not mold.  There was no indication of a problem with the top of the carpet - only the bottom.
The insurance company came in and determined it was mold and water damage.   I then hired someone to rip up the floor and replace it.  The floor guys said it was mold and water damage.  You could see water marks all over the felt paper that was under the wood.   There were also water marks in the wood strips under the floor.
Bussey also wanted more money for an inspection report, which I declined.   He said the white dust under my carpet was construction dust.  The insurance company determined it was mold.
I think the service was useless.   If you all of a sudden develop allergies and breathing problems, you probably have mold.  Save yourself the money and find the source of the problem, then fix it.

Called to get asbestos testing done on tile and glue in my gutted basement. I was able to drop off a sample and results were emailed to me in a few days. Was very helpful in explaining the process. Seemed trustworthy.

Brian was courteous and very knowledgeable. He took his time to listen to our concerns and pointed out problem areas he saw. He answered all of our questions in detail. During our appointment he sampled three areas at first and two more at a later date. All the sampling was done in a neat and inconspicuous manner. Brian fit me in his schedule at a time that was convenient for me. The reports were delivered promptly. I will definitely be calling Bussey Environmental again if need be.

Mr. Bussey was very knowledgeable, professional and responsive.  He seemed to make his recommendations based upon sound scientific  inferences   and did not seem to pander to homeowners fears about mold or go overboard in recommending unnecessary or expensive measures.  I called him with a number of followup questions and he always returned my calls promptly and answered my questions thoroughly.  His reports were thorough and easy to understand.  BEWARE When it comes to mold in homes, it is not a regulated industry and there are a lot of crooks and incompetents pandering to homeowners fears! Many companies advertise mold testing  but they are not real scientist anddo  not perform the testing properly/accurately ( I made the mistake of hiring one the these companies before I hired Bussey)  After I hired Bussey and followed his recommendations, I felt VERY CONFIDENT that he accurately assessed the problem, didn't waste my money on unnecessary measures, and made sure that my home is now mold free and healthy for my family to live in! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We had a carpet company set to install their carpeting that Saturday. When the installer arrived, they walked out refusing to install. The company called saying that they could not install because they said our tiles were probably asbestos. No suggestions, goodbye. We went to angies' s list...looked asbestos testing. We called Bussey.the employee that answered the phone was great. She explained that Brian (the owner) was on vacation but that she would call him and he would call us later that day. I'm the meantime, she suggested that we bring in a sample of ouf tile to send off for testing. Before we arrived at their office with our sample, Brian callled with invaluable advice. Our results came in I'm a couple of days. ... no asbestos. We still had not heard from the carpet company. We called. .. cancelled. Our new carpet....new company. ...
is installing this week. We would recommend Brian Bussey any day.

Brian came out on the date and time as promised.  He walked through the house with my husband as my husband pointed out a few spots of mold.  Brian held some meter to the wall, told us the mold on two doors was toxic, told us to get our vents cleaned and instructed us to use bleach on areas of mold in the basement.
For $350, I expected more.  I was expecting air tests, testing of the mold onsite, better remediation instructions than, "use bleach," and the fact that his car leaked oil on our newer driveway wasn't great either.
I plan on hiring another company to do a thorough mold inspection and testing.
And, as a side note, using bleach on moldy areas may initially, "clean it up", however mold spores are then released into the air which are then inhaled by the occupants of the house.  It saddens me that someone in the industry would suggest that and not inform the homeowner of potential dangers - especially with a very young child in the house.
Response from BUSSEY ENVIRONMENTAL INC.
"The individual who wrote this review was not present during my inspection. Nor did this person call me to ask questions of me directly. I give my clients my full attention whenever they have questions, and I answer each question thoroughly and completely. This person appears to have jumped to conclusions without calling me to discuss her concerns. The amount of mold involved was miniscule and it appears that this particular person would have been happier if I had made a mountain out of a mole hill. However, I believe it is unethical to charge clients for unnecessary testing and recommend unnecessary remediation. Moreover, I have to charge for my time because I am in high demand and offer the experience gained from having performed thousands of environmental audits. The health and welfare of infants, elderly, and the immune-compromised ranks high on my list of priorities, and I have performed numerous audits for hospitals as well as thousands of individuals in immune-compromised situations. For this reason, the remarks about my lack of concern for the welfare of children are patently false and misleading. I normally would not make a remark of this nature, but this review actually borders on slander and I work too diligently and conscientiously, applying the highest standards, to take these remarks lightly."
