They don't call me back when I call them.
They did nice work. It took them a day. They came back the following day to put the gutters on.
Needed rush job, got promises from the salesman, but installation was 7-10 days later than promised, which was enough to put the rest on the projects on hold and delay moving in. I contracted with Promar based on the promised delivery schedule. A local outfit was a little lower in price, but I needed the promised delivery/installation. It turned out that I could have gone with the local guys after all, considering the actual, delayed delivery/installation. Jersey remeasured for the windows at the 11th hour, and saved the day since the wrong sizes were being sent to the distributor on the deadline (that evening) to get the promised delivery.
I had serious issues about the aesthetic quality of the windows. They were messy with silicone, and had vinyl scrap adhered to the surfaces. In addition, the stops were all popping out every time I moved a sash. They were also being chipped by the lower sash movements. I was convinced that I had "seconds". The salesman did not get back to me after I called him and virtually disappeared and never returned my calls. I handled things on my end with Simonton and got replacement stops and learned how great the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser WORKS on vinyl windows. Solvents are a no-no. (The distributor did contact me and came by, but he was offensive and I carried on without him. They were communicating, they protest, but without my knowledge because they didn't include me - she who is waiting for action.)
Bottom line is, the installers really know their stuff. Salesman, not so much. Rely on the crew and foreman for the work. Getting the foreman's contact information might be better for any resolution needed after the fact. The salesman thinks his work is done - he got the order! And then he is gone and you are forgotten. If I could contract with just the crew .... I would do so.
The work look professionally done.
The only thing that I was dissatisfied with was that the clean-up could have been better.
Rick was my salesperson, and was a pleasure to deal with. In the end, most everything turned out as expected. However, there were some mix-ups along the way, and two problems that were never attended to.
Unfortunately, I became overly distraught over one mix-up in particular, which caused enough animosity between good-natured Rick and myself so that I now prefer to go through Angie's List than to call him, again, directly.
The mix-up that caused me to lose my temper involved a chimney surround, which was not part of the insurance claim, and led to a miscommunication between Rick, the workers, and myself. The workers tried harder than they should have to make the chimney surround fit...by removing a portion of my existing cinderblock chimney. I did not approve of how they decided to do this, but in the end, the problem was corrected to my satisfaction, but there remained a dispute over what Rick thought was fair and over what I thought was fair regarding the cost of correcting the problem. I think no one in particular was to blame, and it was just one of those things. This is NOT one of the issues I am asking Angie's List to help with, although it may explain why the other problems were never fixed.
The problems I still have are these: On the house that needed new siding, there was a bottom strip of the old siding missing in the gangway. It came off years ago and was never replaced. When the Promar siding installers came, they assumed that that one bottom strip that was off was that way by design, and so when they installed the new siding, they copied the way the old siding was, leaving that one piece off.
Also, when the roofers came, they somehow accidentally cracked off the corner of my bottom cement stair with either their equipment or a shingle bundle, I'm not sure which.
I told Rick about this, and he said he would talk to Darius, his partner, about seeing what could be done. I told him there was no hurry, but that was back in June, and I'm quite certain they by now have forgotten all about it.
I'm not expecting a dispute from Promar about fixing these two minor issues, as I believe they genuinely forgot, and, not wanting to encounter even the slightest amount of perceived conflict over our past disagreement regarding the chimney mishap, I have not called to remind them.
All in all, I was happy with the quality of their work and would recommend them to anyone, and even use them again in the future, myself. The low over-all grade is temporary and necessary in order for Angie's List to contact them on my behalf. Once they come back out and correct these two problems, their grade will be restored.
"From Promar-contractor: Tried to settle amount due of $1110 (which included additional labor and material costs incurred-rotted wood etc. and not charging for the metal chimney at all) several times, Even attempting to compromise by offering payment of 1/2 that amount and we would do what we could regarding the chipped concrete that our installers insisted was something they did not do and vinyl siding and aluminum materials would not cause that type of damage (we used no machinery for the siding job). Regarding the ''missing'' siding our siding installers could not install per standards. Customer flatly refused to pay any more $ and we did our very best to make this right. We are willing to still take care of this based on our last offer and she can call us to discuss or I (Rick) will be happy to call her after the New Year. Thank You."
I have nothing but good things to say about them. I would recommend them for any exterior jobs around the house.
