Since the May through November contract is now over I probably won't hire Ross & Jack's to do my lawn maintenance again with their current contract and pricing structure: however I will consider reviewing the terms of the contract, making sure that there is a clear understanding of what I want done and what I do not.
I understand that they want my property to be maintained completing all the items on their list BUT I do not feel I required certain services.
The Account Executive was high pressure when I indicated something not be done (such as putting fertilizer on my back lawn because of my dog) he insisted that it wouldn't hurt the animal and it should be done. Again this was his striving for everything to be just perfect -- while I have reasons some things such as no fertilizer in the back. He did would notify me as to the day so I could keep the dog off the back yard...this however meant I had to take the dog on the leash out front for the ensuing 24 hours. Difficult for me ...

"Good morning Member, Our number one goal is to provide excellent service to all of our clients. We’re very sorry we didn’t succeed this time. We respect the Customer and her opinions but feel her comments and ratings are unfair. We were hired in May of 2012 because Joyce was very unhappy with her previous landscaper. We wrote a contract for all of the services we would be performing, as well as, the pricing and timing of each of these services. We're not sure why pricing is an issue since we had a detailed contract prior to doing any work? As far as internal communication is concerned, the foreman of her crew is our best group leader. He has been with our company for 23 years. He is extremely polite, most of our clients think he is great, and has strong communication skills. He has a mobile phone, so he can contact our office and/or our general manager at all times. This "communication issue" is confusing because we feel this is one of our company’s strongest assets. Our first day on the job, we cleaned up the Customer's property and started fertilizing her lawn. From that day on, her property always look neat and tidy. She was extremely happy with our services and only contacted us on a few occasions. We always responded in a timely and professional manner. Despite our efforts, we obviously could have done better. Our reputation and relationship with Angie's List members is extremely important to us. We wish the Customer the best and are very sorry to lose her as a client. My family recently moved to town. We were excited about the new house, but the landscaping left much to be desired. It was just an eyesore. I spoke to 4 or 5 landscaping companies before deciding to go with Ross and Jacks. Some of the other companies offered some impressive proposals. One even came with beautiful color sketches and a powerpoint presentation. We decided to go with Ross and Jacks because they had good ideas for the overhaul of our front yard, the price was fair, and they were unquestionable the most responsive and professional.
The work they did was amazing. All of our neighbors came over to both compliment the new work and to thank us for doing away with the previous eyesore and making the neighborhood more attractive. 1 neighbor drove right past her house, as she was too busy gazing at our new curb appeal. In fact, the landscaping made such a dramatic difference to the yard, garden and even the ability to see our house, that a neighbor's friend asked the neighbor if the house was new.
Ross and Jacks has always been incredibly responsive. The customer service is terrific. I don't have to call 1000 times. My calls are always either answered or returned quickly. And, in fact, I receive calls from Ross and Jacks who call just to check on things. When we've had a minor concern or two, someone always came by quickly to check things out.
We will continue to use Ross and Jacks for ongoing maintenance and cleanup, and we look forward to Ross and Jacks overhauling the landscaping behind the house in the future.he

I first contacted Mark via email through Angies list, I received a prompt reply. Some time passed because we were not ready and when I contacted them again, they responded quickly. Mark came out and meet with my Husband who explained all the things we were interested in some repair and maintenance to our Slate Patio, some collapsed French Drains, a problem area where we leave our grills and just some overall "pretty" before we put the house on the market. Mark promised a quote the next day - bingo we had it that night. We were still unsure and about 3 days later Mark called - left a message and said he thought he could do better with the quote. Bingo - the next day we received a new quote - - and "offer we couldn't refuse". We sent the down payment and they scheduled us for a couple weeks out. After some confusion as to the firm date - they came out as promised. I want to tell you it was worth it ! They did a great job - the place looks great - all around the property ! Too bad we are moving out of state - - - we could use them where we are going !

Showed up at the appointed time - owner went over all work to be performed with me and the 2 employees handling the job. The owner came back in the early afternoon and again did a walk around with me, seeking my input and satisfaction. All cuttings were removed from my yard as well as plants removed. The entire yard - front, sides and rear were immaculate.Professional, highly experienced employees and "hands-on" ownership made this an EXCELLENT experience.

Our flowerbed looked like an overgrown mess with only a couple short weeks before our weekend company of old friends was scheduled to arrive and visit our home for the first time. Yikes! Ross & Jack's was very prompt to communicate and stop by our home for talking about our project and giving an estimate. In fact, the manager was in our area, and stopped by within an hour or so of our initial call. We were offered a range of ideas and prices, and chose a simple clean up to fit our current budget. We were scheduled in plenty of time for our big weekend event. The work by this company was beyond expectation. Despite just asking for a simple clean up and mulching, Our flowerbed and yard appearance improved drastically. Their work was detailed and professional. Even the area under our deck, normally a weedy neglected, was edged and mulched. Our guests commented on how nice our yard looks, the results make me smile.The management seemed very knowledgeable, and offered tips and ideas for future upkeep and improvements as well. It went great. Mark & Michael are great to work with, very responsive, easy to talk to. Their guys did a great job. We signed up for weekly maintenance as well. We may also have them do some landscape improvements.

The company's owner, Mark, came out to give me a quote on getting sod for my entire front lawn (it was looking really bad at the time). Mark was honest, telling me I didn't need sod and also giving some tips for improvement that didn't have any benefit to him. I booked his company to do a big-time cleanup of my garden, put down grass seed where it was needed, and then regularly maintain the lawn and garden. They did a great job and the lawn has never looked this good since I've moved in. Mark is professional, attentive, and responsive.

Work need was quickly sized up and all work that was verbally described and written on estimate was done. Even a few low hanging tree branches were trimmed. Mark called on the day I left a message and stopped by that afternoon to view property and provide the estimate. He scheduled for the following week but showed up the next day around 11 am because he was in the neighorhood.
Crew was very thorough and did a workman like job. Spring clean up 350.00 Fertilizer 50.00 Weed control for dandelion, crabgrass, and broadleaf weeds 100.00It may have been Mark's sales talk but he dispensed quite a bit of information about the industry and sounded very up front in his description of the industry, the work that could be done and its extent and limitations. In short, he took the time to have a conversation about what could be expected from his own company and others and what to watch out for.

The experience was great from design concept/estimate to completion. The initial estimate was much less than others and I was never asked for more money. The crew arrived when I was told they would and they finished on schedule. The owner even stopped by during the install and threw in a couple of plants because he thought it would take the design "from a 10 to an 11". The owner continued to stop by throughout the summer to check on the new plantings, offer me advice to insure growth, and even do a little pruning himself. On one of his visits, he mentioned a few ideas to change plant layout to improve the look yet again. He is planning on sending a crew over this spring to make the changes at no cost. It is obvious he is passionate about his work and his company. I have and will continue to recommend Ross & Jack's to friends, family, and neighbors.

Things have gone well. It is difficult to actually describe the service from start to finish for their work has been a continual process. Each year, more work is delegated to them and they accomplish a fabulous job. Mark, the owner, takes great care in providing excellent service. These workers have provided phenomenal work in cold, rain, and heat. That doesn't matter. Their work is still wonderful.I would allow any of the workers free access inside my home.

We have been using Ross and Jacks for the last 3 years. Before we started using them we changed landscaping companies every season, but I was so relieved to have finally found one that was worth sticking with. I can't say that they are the least expensive of the companies that we used, but they are not the most expensive either. Anytime I have a question I can call or send and email and I get a response almost immediately. The guys doing the work every week do an awesome job, and anytime I want something extra done they are happy to take care of it on the spot, I don't have to wait until the next week.

Ross and Jack's has been doing my lawn service for two years. One of their employees made a terrible mistake that wrecked my yard right before I was having a big party. Mark Serphin at Ross & Jack's was extremely responsive trying to fix the problem in a way that was acceptable to me. As a result, my lawn looked fabulous for the party and will continue to look great in the future. I was extremely pleased with the result, and I give Ross & Jacks a lot of credit for doing the right thing. Any company is only as good as its worst employee, but what is REALLY important is how they address the situation, and Ross & Jack's really came through. Thank you. The team is extremely responsive and keeps my lawn looking great.

"We are not perfect and our employee did spray the wrong weed killer on our clients lawn, therefore, we needed to step up to the plate. Fortunately mistakes don't happen often but when they do, you can always be assured that Ross and Jack's Landscaping will put our customer's interests first. We could have over-seeded the lawn and it would have regenerated on it's own. Over-seeding would have cost us much less money, however, our client was having a big party and needed the lawn looking great by the weekend. Hence, we stepped up to the plate and re-sodded the entire front lawn. It cost us over a thousand dollars but in the end it was our mistake and we needed to fix the lawn by the weekend. I'm extremely happy we were able to resolve the problem and get your yard looking beautiful before your big meeting. This job was completed in Northbrook Illinois in case any readers are confused based on our company profile or location."
