I scheduled this all to take place during our attorney review period because the results could have affected what kinds of credits we asked for. ECG was not able to come out for the first several days of attorney review but I scheduled the appointment at the earliest time they could come, so that I would still have time to get the results before the review was up (Jacob, the technician, informed me that the lead paint results are given the same day, and the lab test for the water takes 48 hours). If all had gone as scheduled I would have gotten the lab test results a full day before the last day of our attorney review period.
Our appointment was scheduled for a Tuesday afternoon. Jacob called me that morning and said that due to an emergency job he was unable to keep the appointment. He said he'd be available the following day. It was very inconvenient for me because I had to spend the morning rescheduling babysitters and going back and forth between Jacob, my realtor and the listing agent so that everyone was coordinated. But I knew it would still give us two days to complete the lead water test. And Jacob did offer me a 10% discount for the trouble, which I appreciated.
On Wednesday he came and tested all the types of surfaces in the house with the XRF instrument and told me the readings as we went along, which was very helpful. He also asked if I had any particular concerns or wanted anything tested that he hadn't already tested. At the time it seemed he was very thorough, but afterwards I regretted not having him test some outside surfaces as well. I know that some companies I'd talked to specifically said they tested all inside and outside painted surfaces. I couldn't remember if he'd told me that too, and I wasn't assertive enough to ask him to do it. So that was my fault, but unfortunately I was left with a feeling of not having gotten all the answers I wanted. Later, when I got the report, I realized that I also didn't understand all the descriptions he used for the areas of the house. Even though I'd been there with him it was hard to keep track of everything he tested, and it was a bit frustrating not to understand what component a particular test result referred to.
At the end he collected the water sample and then informed me that everything (the official written report and the lab results) would take much longer than expected.
I received the lead paint report the next day. But I received the lab test results over two weeks later only after several emails and phone calls trying to find out what was going on, and false promises on Jacob's part about when they would be done. Fortunately the water ended up testing fine, which was a relief because we were already going ahead with buying the house. But it was very irritating that we'd paid for a service and been informed of a timeline to expect, only for it to turn out nothing like that.
My overall impression was that the company and Jacob might be professional but that I was a small, unimportant client to them and I repeatedly ended up at the bottom of their to-do list.
Jacob was the consummate professional.
Highly recommend this group.
I award five very large gold stars to this business.
