Orkin Pest Control

We only used them a couple of times and then cancelled. I think they are overpriced in their cost and it really depends on who they send out determines what kind of a job they do. The first person that came out, he really went around the house and it took him a while to do everything in terms of the ants and then he sprayed outside and then we had another fella that came and he was in and out in 5 minutes so I didn’t feel that he really took care of the situation.

I’ve had to reschedule several times with the technician, at my request.  He always calls to double check to verify the scheduling.  

They are very prompt and the window of wait time is very short—like only two hours.  So, you don't have to wait around all day.

I called Orkin because of wasps in my house. I was told that it would cost $199.00 just for someone to show up. Previously I had called another company which had been a great disappointment. Orkin arrived, but the day was rainy and overcast as well as cool. The exterminator told me that he could not do anything until it was sunny and a bit warmer so that he could observe the insects. He charged me nothing and returned two days later when the weather was much improved. He correctly identified the insect (it was carpenter bees not wasps). The man searched the house inside and out until he located two spots where the carpenter bees were most likely entering the house. He also continued searching until he located where in the house they were nesting (in the basement ceiling where the water pipes go up to the first floor). He poisoned the nest and plugged the two areas outside where they were gaining entrance. I expected the price would be much higher than the $199 for just coming, but I was wrong! For all the work he did and all the time he took, he only charged me the initial fee. Then he told me that I had a 30 day guarantee, but to call him in three weeks no matter what so that he could re-inspect the situation and make sure everything was good. I called in three weeks and he returned and double checked everything and it was all good and there was no additional costs for his second visit. I am very happy with the work done and I am impressed with professionalism and expertise with which the work was done. I consider the $199.00 to be well spent and cheap at the cost. (The previous business I called charged $65.00 which was a total waste of money. Father was right, you get what you pay for.) I would absolutely call Orkin again - I've got the exterminator's business card under a magnet on my refrigerator and I would enthusiastically recommend Orkin to anyone who needs an insect exterminator.

We contracted with them to do a building inspection for mice and insects then do service for a year. We’ve had issues with mice in the past so before they came we emphasized that we wanted everything inspected for mice activity. They sent the termite man instead of the mouse man so the whole day was a waste; he could see that we had a mouse problem but he didn’t know what to tell us to do to go forward. There is a page in the contract that says they will redo the inspection if we aren’t happy but it took two months for them to respond to our concern. By the time the mouse guy can comes out, it’ll be time for our next appointment. It won’t really be resolved for a couple weeks and we are trying to get our next visit free of charge. It’s a lot of runaround and we aren’t getting the response and satisfaction that we were looking for. We talked to a couple different companies and they were the cheapest on paper but we aren’t happy with our service.

I like them a lot. I rate them high overall.

They are quick, thorough, and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend them.

First two visits cut the activity of the nest but did not end it. Nest became active again after a week. Wasps had chewed through ceiling and came into house before the first visit. I sealed the area but could still hear them chewing at the insulation glued over the hole. Thus my concern which I explained when calling. Had they not entered house we could have continued to peacefully coexist til the first frost. The second tech on the third visit borrowed my ladder to reach the opening above the window. When I asked that he be careful not to get dust on it, he responded that I was picky. I took it as humor but after all I would have to wash toxic dust from it. He wore gloves and a full head mask. When done he asked if I had a dog. I have lived in the city all my life before coming to the burbs and am the son and nephew of Chicago cops. Such questions can disturb when no need exists for accessing the grounds. He then asked to enter the house to wash the dust out of his eyes. Why not use proper protection for your eyes and carry necessary first aid to do the job than depend on the home owner to service you? When I told him the house was dirty, I was asked if I was going to let him drive off without allowing him to wash his eyes and that I was the first person to refuse him entrance. This did not sit well with me. He did not leave a receipt for the visit. The first tech on the first two visits required no such service and he wore no protection when he sprayed and he left a receipt each time and provided written information on the pest control dust used and answered all questions and concerns in a professional manner.

They got rid of an ant problem I had. The technician is very nice and friendly. He usually calls the day before to remind me that he is coming to do the spray. He will also call the day of the spray to let me know if he is running late or to see if we need to reschedule.

TECHNICIAN WAS ON TIME AND POLITE. GLOSSED OVER FACT I WAS SIGNING A YEAR'S CONTRACT. DID NOT OFFER TO/WANT TO FOG, DESPITE HEAVY INFESTATION LEFT BY TENANTS. DID NOT HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO HOW OFTEN THEY SHOULD COME BACK TO CATCH HATCHING EGGS.
