Great doors. Not cheap. *Atrocious* customer service. I cannot stress how horrible and slow their customer service is. It took me a year of constant hounding, long numbers of unanswered emails, cancelled installation appointments, wrong doors, etc, before they finally finished the job. I'm still missing the correct door hardware for my master bath, but, after months more of unanswered emails and excuses, I've pretty much given up. Check the complaints with the BBB. Same story. Buyer beware.

We replaced 8 old hollow core interior doors with 8 solid core prefinished doors. We also replaced 3 sets of bypass closet doors with prefinished double doors. We are so very pleased! Our house is much quieter and just feels more peaceful. We had budgeted for a few years for this project. However, the first few companies we looked at quoted a price that seemed too high. When I called HomeStory, we booked an appointment with their salesrep, Valerie. She did an excellent job explaining the difference between her company and other door companies (They really do have a newer technology to make the installation much better!). The estimated time for the appointment was 1.5 hours, but we took much longer. Totally on us, not the rep! Next was an appointment with the guys that do the precise measuring. This is where the technology came in and our doors were made to fit in each doorway without removing the old frames. Not removing the frames is where we saved a nice amount of money. This step took a couple of hours. Due to our conversations with this guy, we made a change to our order for our closet doors. The change would require a little bit of carpentry work, but we got doors we loved. The change was easy for the office to handle and actually cost us a little bit less. Win win! Next we waited for the office to call us that the doors were ready. It took about 7 weeks (Of course, much of this time fell over the end of year holidays). We scheduled our installation. The 2 guys that did the installation were very respectful, answered questions, and did their work without breaks. For the most part, the job was very clean. The carpentry/sawing work that we added did create a lot of fine sawdust. The workmen cleaned up what they could reach, but we did have to wash down walls and floors. The installation took about 4 hours. About a week after the initial install we called the company because there were a few minor adjustments we noted after using the doors. They booked an appointment to come back. They just finished the adjustments and we are just thrilled with everything. I love the fact that this company cost us less than if we got the doors at any of our local hardware stores, are better doors, cost less money and time for us. Keep it up HomeStory!

Quality is excellent and installation people are very good. However, the whole process experience was awful. Doors were more than 3 weeks late and communication was not good. We had agreed to a specific date for installation and had our house painted so the painter removed the doors. We were told there was quality issue with the doors so it ended up being delayed for more than 3 weeks. We had no bathroom and bedroom doors for 3 weeks. Tone of communication was rude i.e. it is better that it is late than we place doors with quality issues. Seriously? Then reply to emails would take days. Would not recommend if you have a specific timing.

Overall, very satisfied with the company and their work. They did what they said they would do and the quality of the doors and work is excellent. Very responsive to all our needs. The installers were prompt, friendly, and professional. Went out of their way to handle a few little problems we had not anticipated.

They were prompt, professional and up front. The work was done on time, and completed as they said it would be. I would definitely work with them again.

Overpriced. Workmanship is deplorable. They started installing in April. It's October. My home is still NOT FINISHED. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They will take your money and disappear for months at a time. My home has lost value as a direct result of using them. I'm a real estate broker - I know what I'm talking about. I have closet doors that do not close correctly because they were installed so poorly. Not only that, but the inexperienced crew installed the hinges on them, took them off, reinstalled them, took them off, etc., to the point that some closet doors have many more holes than they should from the hinges being "installed" so poorly. I have door hinges into which they only put one screw. I have a pocket door that first had a warped door installed into it, so had to wait over a month for a new one. In the mean time, the first installer ripped out trim to access the pocket, and DIDN'T PUT IT BACK!!! They left nails sticking out of the wall and left. When they eventually installed the replacement pocket door weeks upon weeks later, to replace one of the missing pieces of trim, they used garbage lumber that WASN'T EVEN THE RIGHT DIMENSION, not to mention the fact it wasn't even cut to the right length. They butchered the door jamb into which the pocket door latches, installing the latch plate SO POORLY that it started falling out within a week. Not only that, but they didn't even bother to try to center it, so when the door didn't line up correctly, they used bumpers to hold the door at an angle so it would. This winds up pushing the door to one side in the gap, so the latch face on the side of the door strikes the jamb every time the door is opened into the pocket. It goes on and on and on. If you don't know what quality workmanship is and don't care about money, by all means, use them. If, on the other hand, you want your time and money to go toward improving the appearance and value of your home, DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, CONSIDER USING THIS COMPANY. THE ARE A COMPLETE RIP-OFF, CHARGING HUNDREDS MORE PER DOOR THAN COST, ADDING THOUSANDS FOR INSTALLATION, AND THEY WILL ABSOLUTELY RUIN YOUR HOME. Originally, we thought we'd have them redo the door trim, as well, as our home is 50 years old and some of the trim has certainly seen better days. After they did the trim on two doors, I cancelled that part of the order. The work was worse than amateurish. It was downright shoddy and ugly. I could only assume the people installing it had never in their lives installed trim before. The reveal was uneven from top to bottom, one side to the other. Instead of a uniform 3/16" reveal, it went from 1/8" at the bottom to over 1/4" at the top, dropped 1/8" across the top and was crooked down the other side. This wasn't some small, nitpicking flaw - it was plainly obvious to anyone who saw it. It was redone. When I told them I didn't want them installing any other trim in my house, the representative started threatening me with lawsuits. I informed him that the pictures of the shoddy workmanship would more than suffice in illustrating they were woefully incapable to provide the service agreed upon, and no one would find against me, leaving him responsible for all court costs. They agreed to drop it from the work order. I was told someone was going to be coming back to go over some of the issues; not only has that not happened, but my phone calls and messages have been completely ignored. As far as I'm concerned, I didn't get the work or quality I was promised. I have doors that don't close correctly, closet doors that are plainly visibly misaligned, excess holes in doors (or were they used on another job?), and door openings that were simply butchered. Not only would I never use them again, I would never recommend them to anyone, and will for the length of my life expend every ounce of energy I have to inform people they should not even consider them.

I placed an order for new closet doors mid March with a promise from the sales rep, Jason, that they would be in within 4-5 weeks but guaranteed in 6. The gentleman who came out to measure also assured me they would be in within 6 weeks. It has now been well over 14 weeks since I signed my contract and they cannot even tell me if the doors have begun production. I was told just last week there was an issue with obtaining resources. They cannot tell me if and how I can cancel and simply stated there is a clause in the contract that delays may occur. I was just notified by my real estate agent the listing value of my home dropped over $2k from May to July...the house has been ready to put on the market since May 1st but I need these doors to list it. They will not allow me to cancel and they will not deliver the product. I have called every week for over eight weeks and am now calling daily. Nancy answers each and every time, she is very nice but has no information often stating the plant in CA is non responsive. I asked Jason about the other reviews stating the doors were delayed and he stated those reviews were nonsense - the doors would be in on time. They have over $2,000 of my money and will not deliver and will not refund my deposit. This company is costing me thousands of dollars due to this delay. I have been deceived by the sales rep, Jason and this company.  Do not fall victim to the awful practices of a company who does not honor their word and fails to deliver to their customers.

Process went smoothly from start to finish.  All of Homestorys representatives were prompt, courteuos and efficient.  The sales representative was not pushy, knew the product and when contacted with questions, after the initial visit, was fast to reply.  Measuring for the new doors, they arrived  on time and the process was quick.  They said it too up to 6 weeks for the doors toarrive and they were available in less than 3.   They worked around my available schedule for installation, arrived early and were done quickly and efficiently.  They were so tidy, it didn't seem like I had work done,  excpt for having great new doors!  They look better than anticipated and work so much betterthan the old builder grade doors in my townhome.  Very happy with the entire process and would easily recommend them.

We only met with the salesperson and we didn't follow through after that because we had wanted them by Thanksgiving and couldn't get them that fast so we will have to wait until the new year when the commotion of the holidays is finished. The sales person was very helpful and he did follow up with us.  So we will contact again at the beginning of the year. I thought it was expensive but we can't do these things ourselves any more. Once they do have the doors the installation sounds like it will be very quick so that sounds great.

This company is phenonmenal!  They come and measure each door way with laser tools.  Then they make doors to order come and install them.  They fit perfectly the first try and look beautiful.  There are all kinds of door style choices and types.  The installation took less than one day and the process is fairly quiet.  I am very happy with the doors and the company!

I live in a mid-century high rise condo, and the doors in my unit were original to the building. They were banged up and had numerous layers of paint -- ranging from avocado green to white -- built up on them. I wanted to replace the doors for a long time, but I was held back by two HUGE factors: the doors are nonstandard sizes and the frames are metal and buried in the walls. This meant I needed custom doors made that could use my existing frames unless I wanted a very messy and expensive gutting of my walls.
Everything about my experience was top-notch. They responded quickly to my inquiry and came to my home to help me pick out the doors I wanted. Then they came back and measured for my doors. I was told it would take 4-6 weeks for my doors to be ready, but they were ready in 2 weeks! (When did you ever hear of such a thing?!) The installation went well. The guys who did the work were very friendly, and they cleaned up after themselves.
The doors themselves are of excellent quality.
I only had two small hiccups with my experience. The first was that one set of closet door did not have the pull handles pre-drilled, but the guys were able to do that onsite. The other was that the guys forgot to bring the right number of plastic glides for the bottom of the bypass doors, but they are going to come back next week with the one missing piece.

Work went well.  The installers are good solid professional men who know their jobs.  I did have an issue with two doors not quite fitting to the threshold and the owner, Dan, came out and re-measured the doors again and made two new doors so that they would fit as he promised.  Great company to work with. The installers also reminded me that they would be glad to come out if any doors need adjustments.......Wow!! This company knows how to put out a great product and follow it up with excellent customer service....wish I had more doors to replace!

I chose the style of door from many samples. They matched the paint for the doors perfectly. All knobs and hinges were replaced. They have a large collection from which to choose. Their prices are very competitive. Their sales staff is very professional. The installers were efficient and friendly. Everything was done perfectly. I am very satisfied with everything.

The Home Story owner came to our house and gave us quotes on replacing several doors in our house. He was very personable and there was no pressure, although it wasn't necessary because we really needed new doors. It boiled down to how many we would get and all we could afford at the time was to replace seven doors for about $2,400. Each door opening was measured individually that day and the doors were installed a couple of weeks before Christmas as promised. The installation went very smoothly. Their installer was also a pleasure to deal with - and the doors look beautiful. We will definitely go back when we are in a position to replace the rest of our doors.

Dan and his team were great people to work with They were professional, friendly, and responsive. Dan was straight forward and able to answer all of our questions. The whole process was quick and painless. The old doors were out and the new doors installed in less than half a day with no mess at all. Can't believe how much of a difference the new doors have made. They've brightened up our entire upstairs and added a nice update to our recently bought 70's style home. We highly recommend HomeStory of Chicago.
