Dear Sir:
Granite
Pol advertises to be a Angies member.
They were contracted by us to build and install new granite countertops
and a new stainless steel sink. Stone was from American Granite Company in Elk Grove Village.
Granite Pol would buy the granite,
fabricate and install the stone. They
also were to provide and install a new stainless steel sink duplicating the arrangement
of the current one. A Granite Pol
employee measured the job in November 2014 and installation was on
12-17-14. Unsatisfactory performance
included:
1.
Two granite tops were cut longer than the
original tops. Now the refrigerator
slides back into its space very tightly.
The refrigerator now scores the base and the top trim piece of the
refrigerator hits the wall. That slab is longer than the original top. This tension and base trim scoring was
not present with the old counter top.
2.
The stove also slides in under tension tight
against two tops whereas the former tops allowed about ¼ fitting space. We discovered this because the stove
gas valve was not turned back on by Granite Pol employees. We had to remove the stove to turn the
gas on and discovered the fit issue.
It is clear that replacement units, when needed, may be unable to be
installed if only a 1/16 inch wider than the current models of stove and
refrigerator.
3.
One near 3-foot long edge on one slab extending
into the dining room was not machine finished (rounded) in the fabrication
shop. Instead of having this edge
field finished outside the house or taking it back to the factory they took a
hand grinder and rounded the edge inside the finished home. This grinder had no vacuum attached to
collect dust and it created much stone dust throughout the kitchen, dining room
and living room on wood floors, tables, wine rack, etc. We questioned this grinding inside the
home and were told that everything would be cleaned. The dust condition was
left by Granite Pol and 3 hours were needed for cleanup of fine dust.
4.
During this grinding operation a vase was broken
in the dining room and disposed of, no mention made to us about the
breakage. We heard the glass
breakage while downstairs.
Better Business Bureau, 12-20-14, page 2 of 3
5.
One rear granite splash provided by Granite Pol was
broken on site and installed broken with glue and sealant. We were not informed of this and
discovered it after Granite Pol people left the job site. The splash was intact coming out of the
truck.
6.
During installation one top was slid across a
solid oak wood floor. Granite Pol employees
asked if we had any old carpet since they brought nothing but soiled painter?s
tarps to protect the floor. While
they used a wheeled cart to bring the top from the truck to the entry door it
was not used inside the house. The
wood floor has scoring in the finish from sliding the top across a finished oak
floor.
7.
When it was time to mix epoxy to install the
stainless sink anchors they asked for cardboard we might have to mix
epoxy. They again failed to bring
all appropriate tools and materials to the job. We provided an old cardboard box as an epoxy mixing board.
8.
While installing the new stainless sink the
water line to the dishwasher was bent.
They left the dishwasher shutoff valve in the off position after leaving
so no leak was detected at that time.
When we turned the dishwasher on it was not getting water. We turned the valve on and the line now
leaked, causing the cabinet to get water soaked. The bent water line had to be repaired to prevent
leaking.
9.
The staircase of carpet was left heavily soiled
in stone dust and outside debris brought on Granite Pol employee shoes into the
house. No cleaning took place by
Granite Pol employees.
10. The
stainless steel sink provided by Granite Pol was model U202 by Wells. No manufacturer warranty or care
instructions were provided by Granite Pol. We had to call Wells to obtain those materials furnished by
the manufacturer.
11. We
provided a new one-hole faucet to Granite Pol installers. When they drilled the hole in the
granite for the faucet no vacuum head was used on the drill, again dust blew
through the kitchen and dining room and only the counter top was cleaned of
dust that blew much longer distances.
12. The
Wells U202 stainless sink provided by Granite Pol was noted to be deeper than
one being removed. We questioned
the Granite Pol installers about the ability of the new sink to work properly
with the existing wastewater wall discharge from the existing disposal. Our concern was that the sink depth
might mean water could not exit the disposal into the wall connection to the
sewer line. The disposal was left
under the sink for their review.
We were told by Granite Pol installers that there would be no problem
with water discharge from the deeper sink. After they left we discovered that the water discharge of
the disposal would not be above the sewer line wall entrance, forcing water to
sit in the disposal. After
consulting with a licensed plumber we found this situation to be in violation
of the plumbing code and disposal manufacturer installation instructions. The new sink is 9 inches deep;
other Wells sinks are as little as 7 inches deep. We called Granite Pol and they told us the sink was a
standard depth sink.

A plumber
had to remove a wall section and do much plumbing work to have the installation
meet plumbing code health rules. Had Granite Pol been complete in their on site
measurement and honestly revealed the issue with their chosen model sink the
waste plumbing could have been corrected for much less money and time prior to
new top installation, or another sink could have been acquired from another
vendor.
In total
Granite Pol has been quite disappointing in their workmanship that was far
inferior to that recently provided by a granite installation company on our
other house in Florida. Their
communication is equally poor; especially on the job site where Polish prevai
"Hello, I would like to explain that I have found out about complaint from [member name removed] from reading reviews/complaints. I was not aware of this situation since customer never contacted our company directly regarding all issues listed in this reviews. Our company was contacted by customer about the issue with the sink depth which Granitepol wanted to resolve with the customer but customer never contacted us back. I have called [member name removed] after I found out that complaint has been filed. I have asked [member name removed] what can our company do to have those issues resolved. [Member name removed]'s response was, that he and his wife will think about it and will call me back. I will be contacting the customer again to see how can we have this issue resolved."
The actual renovation work was very simple and straightforward. There was no complications, the granite countertops were installed and look great, and the workers were extremely nice and respectful. The work was fantastic, and I was extremely pleased with the entire transaction. Thank you again GranitePol and I highly recommend them to anyone that needs anything done with granite.
It was installed and fit very well. However, when you felt the top of the granite it was not at all smooth, with many, many rough spots.
I called to complain, and the woman that answered said that I was "trouble" and that the rough spots were characteristic of the particular granite that we chose. She had never warned us of that characteristic of the granite when we chose it. She also said that nothing could be done to fix it.
A few days later, my husband called GranitePol to try to resolve the situation. This time the woman sent out a man to smooth out the top. He did improve greatly how smooth the top was. I don't know why this wasn't done before the granite was brought to our home. I don't know why this wasn't done the first time we called to complain.
I would not use GranitePol again.
Sylvia is very responsive both by email and phone. She keeps you updated when there is a delay in installing because some jobs take longer than anticipate. I will use GranitePol again for any countertop work that I need in the future.
No one able to help...until I called the angels at Granite Pol. I contacted them and they were out the next day. They were here for maybe and hour. They were professional, courteous and tidy and even gave me a complimentary bottle of granite cleaner.
My plummer - Kevin at Black Diamond - commented on what a fabulous job they did.
