I live in a rural area where my home is exposed to the harsh and extreme weather conditions. (Rain, wind, hail, snow, lightning)
In Spring of 2015, we sustained hail damage to our roof. I sought out many quotes from contactors. I chose Gold Standard Restoration because of the professionalism shown not only in the onsite visit to my home but the extensive presentation and documentation of the existing roof. I signed a contract in late October and the roof was installed within 2 weeks.
I was very pleased with the roof. I was upgraded to a higher quality shingle than I originally contracted for. I needed extended downspouts and they were provided as well. I had a lightning rod system on the roof that was missing a rod. I was told it would be resolved in the spring when the weather was better. I was pleased job well done.
In March, there were winds in excess of 80 miles per hour at my home. A very small section of the shingles on the roof was blown off. I was a wreck because we were due for more inclement weather and rain/snow could cause major damage inside the house if not addressed immediately. Side note: My grill was thrown off the back deck and swept 40 yards away from the house.
I called my contact George at Gold Standard Restoration. He had contractors out that day to fix the issues. George explained to me that because the roof was put on so late in the fall, the shingles did not have enough time to cure and bond properly and hold up to the 80 mph winds. The work was covered under the warranty.
The lightning rod system was adjusted but there were one minor adjustment I wanted made. George came out himself to look over the work and make the last adjustment. The roof is excellent. We walked the roof and George showed me all the improvements over the last roof I had. We talked about the fluke windstorm. I mentioned the grill and that some of the shingles had blown off the house and gouged the hood of my car. It was the first time I mentioned it to George. I was reimbursed for my deductible within two days of his visit.
I highly recommend Gold Standard Restoration to anyone in need of a new roof.
Was our first time working with this contractor. Before we signed up, George came out to the house and insisted on seeing the inside and outside for a lengthy inspection before writing up his bid, so that we would get a fair price he wouldn't have to change later, and that we would get the full manufacturer warranty from the material we chose. This was the first indication of the quality that Gold Standard would bring to the job. Other contractors simply walked around the house on the ground, or did a 5 min visual inspection of the roof before declaring their bids.
This was the first time the contractor had worked with our chosen material (EuroShield rubber shake), so there was a learning curve for them, and they were very up-front about that (though they did have extensive experience with DaVinci and other manufactured and composite roofing materials, which gave us confidence that they could handle this pretty easily). To prepare, George and team worked quite closely with the manufacturer to get trained up and to insure the material was installed correctly - besides avoiding leakage, they wanted to insure we would receive the full warranty for the job (which is dependent on specific installation tasks and procedures).
Contractor followed manufacturer instructions explicitly; however the crew was given the wrong installation instructions for the material we were using, and the pattern was way off. Contractor noticed the issue a few hours into the job and immediately stopped and consulted with the manufacturer, who had to then go back and test and provide a new set of installation instructions while the team waited around for 24 hours. Contractor had to remove all new material already laid down and start over, and while not happy about it, they did it professionally and with no real griping.
In the middle of the job and while the roof was exposed, we did have an unexpected, huge thunderstorm that rolled through, and sideways rain was able to get under the temporary ridge caps they installed and leak into the house. However the contractor immediately came back out at ~10pm, and in the middle of the storm went right back up there to install more tarps and protection, which worked great. Was very appreciative of the extra effort and immediate handling of the issue.
Job site was run very well, with porta-potty for the crew, multiple dumpsters, and nightly cleanup of debris and material around the house. Crew was respectful of our landscaping - covering our shrubs and koi pond daily to insure no debris got in there - and were courteous to my wife and family who were home every day during the job.
Contractor replaced multiple / all skylights in the house as part of the job - no issues, they look great and have no leaks or problems. Took the time to walk me through where the old skylights has started to leak a little, and how theA triple-skylight bank of windows required special flashing and installation procedures, but the crew took their time and made sure it was done right.
y were installing the flashing to insure it never happened again.
No incidental damage caused to any part of the house during the job, the crew was very careful.
Contractor fabricated custom copper flashings for a couple of tricky areas of the roof, rather than using (much cheaper and quicker) ice'n'water shield and caulk. No additional cost to me, and not something I even asked for - they insisted on doing it because "it was the *right* way to flash these areas to guarantee there will be no leaks or problems. Talk about above and beyond to insure the job was done right! Another small touch is how they painted all the PVC vent pipes to match the roof color and make them less obtrusive and noticeable to the eye. Again, no additional cost to me and not even something I asked for - but simply a contractor taking pride in their work and doing the job the right way.
Contractor coordinated and worked well with another subcontractor doing electrical work in a vaulted ceiling (best time to do it is when the roof deck is exposed). No issues at all, they worked smoothly together. Contractor even cut open another section of roof for me to inspect and correct a detached vent hose from a bathroom fan up in a vaulted ceiling.
Communication was outstanding from start to finish. I was not able to be on-site every day, but received multiple calls / texts / pictures every day with status, and when I did get home, the team took me up and showed me the daily progress, solicited questions, and encouraged me to by very picky about any concerns I had (which were very few).
About the only real issue I had during the job, was with the gutter apron being too small for the style gutters we have, and (in my judgement) not installed well by the crew, allowing water to get behind the gutter instead of into it. When I pointed out my concern, the Contractor agreed and immediately replaced all gutter apron around the entire house, correcting the issue to my satisfaction.
At no point did the Contractor or crew suggest "cheaper" or "quicker" solutions to any of the normal install challenges that cropped up. They insisted on fixing things the right way, every time, even if it meant a little extra work to complete the job.
Price was a little high compared to other bids, but still very reasonable - you pay for quality workmanship and doing the job the *right* way - and that is exactly what we received. A friend of mine is a Commander in the US Navy, and he trains his men that "There are two ways to get something done in life - do it the right way.....or do it over again." With something as important and long last as a roof, it was an easy decision to spend a little more on it to make sure it was done right the first time.
Overall we were very satisfied with the job George and Gold Standard Restorations did with our roof replacement. I would highly recommend them for this service to any other homeowner considering a roof replacement. And while I hope to never work with them again on *this* particular roof, we will certainly use them again on other projects.
- Gold Standard Restoration is an outstanding company to work with! They're name is true to what they set - "the GOLD standard." They use high quality products and do high quality work. We met with several contractors, and chose the right company in Gold Standard Restoration. They go above and beyond to do excellent work for their customers and are experts at working with insurance companies. They did an fantastic job in our home and we would highly recommend them!!
"Thanks, for the review [member name removed]! I'd like to stop by next time I'm in the area to do a 1 year courtesy check on your roof to make sure it faired the harsh winter we had."
After going round and round with another contractor we decided to give Gold Standard Restorations a call based on a recommendation made by a family friend who's home had been damaged by a previous hail storm. Just like the previous contractor Gold Standard's estimate for repairs exceeded what the insurance company had agreed to pay to repair our home. Thankfully, our project manager at Gold Standard was very knowledgeable about the construction process and the insurance claims process and was able to provide a detailed estimate for what would be needed to make a proper repair to our home. We were very surprise.d to see the number of items that had been overlooked or forgotten when the insurance adjuster inspected our home. We submitted Gold Standards estimate to our insurance company and they agreed to pay for the additional items our project manager had identified. We were thrilled!
Once we got the additional items approved our project manager took the time to sit down with us and asked us questions about what was important to us in repairing our home. He presented us with a lot of different product options and explained the differences between each one. This was very helpful, as sometimes all of the option can seem overwhelming, but they expertly guided us through it.
Gold Standard performed all of the repairs to our home inside and out with high quality building products and it looks better than we could have ever imagined! The crews that performed the work were on time, professional and kept our home looking very neat throughout the entire construction process. I would recommend Gold Standard Restoration to anyone interested in repairing their home. From start to finish the staff was knowledgeable, professional and made what was otherwise a nightmare a dream come true, we LOVE the new look of our home!
"It was a pleasure working with the [member information removed] and we couldn't be happier with the way the home turned out, providing the premium color at no additional cost was our way of saying thanks for your business!"
The crew that came to work on the house were consummate professionals, even though Mother Nature seemed to be working against them. During the week they were due to start, we had several windy and rainy days that prevented them from working to their fullest, but when it was safe to be up on the roof and scaffolding, they worked hard and they worked fast. Each day there was never a mess in the yard, not even a nail. If you were driving by you would never guess that we were having work done. They were sure to warn us when they would be putting up the siding and they would be banging h****** the sides of the house. This ensured we could take down any fragile items that would be hanging on the wall. George or Carmine would stop by at the end of the day to check on the work, and to make sure that things were working smoothly. They stayed in constant contact with us and their crew to make sure that if anything wasn't going as planned, they would work to fix it. We had no issues with the crew, or their workmanship. Coming home at the end of the day I was always amazed to see the progress that was being made. We didn't even have to deal with the village inspectors. We gave George and Carmine the contact information and they took care of all the paperwork and setting up the inspection appointments. All we had to do was put the approved permit sticker in the window.
It's been about six (6) months since the work has been completed, and I've already noticed a huge difference in my home. First, the house felt warmer this winter, I didn't feel the drafts around the windows like I had previously. When the wind would blow, I couldn't hear it. With the old siding on a windy day it would sound like a haunted house. The house would rattle and had definite cold spots by the windows. I saved at least $100 in heating costs this winter. It probably would have been more if the winter wasn't so mild.
The house looks so pretty and the new lights they installed just frame the house perfectly. It looks like a brand new house and on a sunny day you can really see the vibrant red. There's no missing it!
I absolutely recommend Gold Standard Restorations for all work that needs to be done around the home.
"This project was a great success from start to finish, we were happy to assist with the insurance claims process to get additional items approved and the home repaired properly. In this case we were able to do a complete overhaul and the home looks great, thanks again for your business and the review!"
