Set Right

We had ordered a home from a company in Garrett Indiana, and it was being delivered May 28th 2013. Unfortunately we had over 6 inches of rain the week and weekend before. I tried to contact the company by phone and e-mail but no one ever got the message, and evidently did not check the weather, needless to say they delivered the house but could not get it to the site, so we had to park it 6 miles away. We had no insurance on the home until it was on our property, so we were in a hurry to find someone, the only one we could find was Clint Winchell from Set Right. Clint charged us 1500.00 to get the home (which was in two sections 30x60) to the site, and then said he wanted 8500.00 to set it. We balked, so he came down to 7200.00. He said he would have the house set by the 16 th of June, but that didn't happen. It took him 4 days to set it, because he did not have enough equipment to do the job right. Once it was set the walls did not line up so I did not want to pay him but our contractor said it was not his fault (Time for a new contractor, but that's another story) so I paid him. We had a different contractor come in to give us an estimate on fixing the doorways, and he informed us that whoever had set the house did not do it right. I then looked up another mobile home setter, who came out and pointed out that the front of the house was hanging off the foundation and Clint had not bolted the back of the house, the doorways or the top of the house together, so it was all out of alignment. Both sections of the house have to be lifted, racked and reset, not to mention all the plumbing and septic lines that have to be redone, oh and the roof also. So don't hire Set Right to set your home unless you want it Set Wrong. Have not got the estimate yet to redo everything, but I sure hope Set Right is insured. We have since had the house racked at an additional cost of $2000.00 dollars. The doorways are only off by 1/2 an inch now, which is acceptable to me. We have had to add support to the front of the house, so things are looking up. the house is not a 100% but will suffice. The response is just lies. Except for the charge, it was 7200.00, which I have corrected in the original complaint. He had originally told us it would be done hopefully by the 10th, but for sure by the 16th of June, it was not finished until the 18th. We had 50 sheets of plywood available for Clint to use but he wanted rock.so we did get gravel to the site, but that was on the 13th. We paid our contractor for the gravel, and it was spread by the neighbor with his tractor. mr. Winchell had no part in that. There was also a piece of plywood that had to be cut from the front of the house, which Clint stated was not his job, so I loosened the siding and had the contractor come out yet again to cut it off. Clint spent 3 hours in travel time home and back again, instead of a 1/2 hour to do that small task. As far as equipment, they had one jack handle which they had to pass off to one another for each Jack that was set up, and my husband had to find a hammer for them to use. They returned the next day and still did not bring a hammer. The foundation is 30 feet wide and 60 feet long. each section of the house is 15 feet wide and 60 feet long, the house sits cockeyed on the foundation. the West side of the house is off the foundation by 2 inches. The east side is off by 5 inches. We learned that the front should have overlaped by 2 inches, which Mr. Winchell should have known. The house could not be bolted at the front, but he did not bolt the other 3 sides. Any professional mobile home setter that I talked to said that these houses often have to be racked, which is simply lowering and raising sides of the home until they are level. Plus Clint wanted paid up front before the job was even done, which we would not do. His broken down truck sat for a week until someone could come out and tow it away. Roof gables were not in alignment, doorways were way out of alignment, and the floor has a gap of one inch. Please see attached photos.
