MC CABE HEATING COOLING CO

McCabe Heating and Cooling was hired by the contractor of our home during construction to install the heating and cooling system. Before they started I asked the owner what brand of equipment would be installed as I was considering upgrading. He told me they use Rheem but actually installed Weather King. He later said it was their "contractor" version. The duct work was installed sloppily with some 2nd floor ducts run along exterior walls not allowing room for insulation. During construction, I visited the site and found that to install one run to the 2nd floor they removed a 2x4 stud on an exterior wall by cutting the top and bottom then prying the stud from the exterior sheeting. This left about 6 holes in the wall the size of 50 cent pieces where the nails securing the sheeting to the stud were ripped out. Luckily I found this when I removed the duct because it should not have been in an exterior wall. If I wouldn't have removed it, there would have been 6 holes letting in outside air directly to an uninsulated wall cavity. The duct work was so poorly done that I had to install fans in two of the ducts going to the 2nd floor just to get any air to come out. Even with the fans boosting the air flow, you can barely feel any air. Both rooms are always hot in the summer. If you go to the basement you can feel the air pouring down from the cavity that those ducts are run in, telling me they didn't assemble the ducts properly. In 3 of the 4 bedrooms there is absolutely no air being sucked back by the air return register. Obviously, they didn't test the system or didn't care that it doesn't work well. They didn't stop the shoddy work there. They also installed the gas fireplace that rain comes in from the exterior vent occasionally. All in all, they did a sloppy, unprofessional and careless job. I wouldn't let them change the furnace filter.
