I've been using Competitive Lawn Service for several years. The quality of their work has declined significantly this year (2018). They leveled and seeded a portion of the front lawn. The initial estimate for the job was done in March. There were numerous delays (that were not weather related) in getting the project started. It was only after I told them I was going to find another landscaper to complete the project did they come out to do the job. June 2018......After receiving an email from the company indicating that lawn service would be curtailed for the remaining portion of the week because of heavy rainfall, a lawn crew showed up at my house and trashed my yard. The lawn now looks like someone drove back and forth over it. When I called to express my concern I was told that they were not able to contact all of the trucks and some of the crews did yards that they thought were dry enough. I have standing water in my yard from the rain. I am currently looking for a new lawn care service.

We have been customers of Competitive for two years.  We will not be signing up for a third.  The first year, they were great with both the mowing and the bed maintenance/yard cleanup services.  This year, (our second), all I can say is that the mowers are punctual and do a good job mowing - I have no complaints there.  However, we have paid quite a bit of money for weeding (we have a large yard with lots of landscaping and no time to take care of it ourselves, hence using this service), and you would never know from looking at it right now that we even hired a service.  I am very disappointed in their lack of thoroughness and attention to detail, as well as in their customer service.  I had to call and email multiple times just to find out when they'd be coming for the first weeding/pruning visit - they don't even seem to tell you or track this service, so I guess it is on the customer to make sure you get the 3 visits that you've paid for?  I would've expected to receive them evenly spaced without asking.  Last year, a team of 6-8 men probably spent half the day here weeding each time that they came.  But this year, they sent a 2 person crew.  The second time they came, I had to call the headquarters to report that they'd left after about 1.5-2 hours with LOTS of work left undone; at first I thought they must've just gone on a lunch break, but then I realized they weren't planning on returning.  (I even took pictures of all the remaining weeds - it was such a joke!)  They did send the crew back to "finish" the job, but I still just don't think their work is up to snuff this year.  As I said, we won't be repeat customers come next Spring.
(One more note: yes, our yard is large with lots of flower beds, however, Competitive had the chance to see all of that and measure it before quoting us a price, so it is not as if they did not realize what they had signed up for.)

They are very punctual. They use earth friendly products and methods. They are quite thorogh with mowing, raking and pickup of leaves.

The town where I live decided to excavate and replace all of my subdivision's sewer mains, water lines and pavement over a 5 month stretch. I had to remove a 2 layer flagstone circle from around about a 15-18 foot tree in my front parkway or risk losing the flagstone as they excavated. A friend removed the flagstone pieces and carried them behind my house, putting them in piles to store them. The pieces are about 24" x 10" each.
After the construction was over I needed someone familiar with building these flagstone circles to replace the flagstone circle around the tree. I called the lawn care service I have used for years, Competitive Lawn Service of Downers Grove, Illinois, to get the flagstone replaced. Barb, the office assistant , was very pleasant. She agreed to talk to the owner about my problem. About 3 weeks later the lawn care crew came on a separate day from my usual cutting and did the work.
They carried the large pieces of flagstone to the front and rebuilt them into a 2 layer circle around the tree. They really worked on it- it looks even better than it did originally! They cleaned up after themselves, too.
I have used this company for several years as a weekly lawn care service and I have always been very satisfied with their work.
