I was having problems with my existing Craftsman garage door opener. I contacted DuPage Overhead Door, the company which originally installed it, and got nothing but the runaround from them. I called them several times, but the owner kept forgetting about me. It was a painful ordeal and I’m not going to waste too much space here on it. Needless to say, I was frustrated and done with them. I went onto Angie’s list and found Bryan’s Garage Door Solutions, which had exceptional reviews/ratings, and called them. I spoke to the owner, Bryan, and told him what I was dealing with. He spent a considerable amount of time with me on the phone in an effort to diagnose the problem in hopes I could resolve it myself and save some money. I advised him that I had already attempted switching out the logic board myself and I didn’t want to put any more time or money into my older unit. I told him I would prefer to have it replaced. Bryan advised me that he is a certified installer for Liftmaster products, a name I was familiar with from my old home. I gave him the dimensions of my overhead door (18’ w x 8’ w) and advised him that it was a heavy insulated door that sits below the master bedroom. He gave me a couple of model numbers from the Liftmaster Premium Series, but based on his experience and the size/weight of my door and its location under the bedroom, he steered me to the Elite series Model 8557W, which is a 3/4 ton, belt-driven, AC motor unit. He thoroughly went over the advantages and disadvantages of an AC motor versus a DC motor and I’m glad he took the time! He also advised me that the Liftmaster rails are one-piece rails, not sectional rails like you find on the door openers sold at the home improvement stores. I was elated because the sectional rail on my old unit always seemed to sag in the middle. The one-piece rail is much sturdier and more reliable than a sectional rail. Bryan quoted me a fair price and we scheduled the install for a Monday morning about a week out. He clearly explained that he does his installs Monday-Wednesdays and saves Thursdays and Fridays for repair work as well as odds and ends. He advised me that he does not schedule work after 4pm or weekends, unless it’s an emergency service call (his website clearly states this as well). As a family man myself I certainly appreciate a person who wants to dedicate time for himself and his family. I respect that. He did respond to my initial call over the weekend though and answered messages that I had left him in the evenings on the same day. Bryan came out Monday morning promptly between the 8am and 9am window of time he had given me. He then went right to work. He first checked the counter balance of my overhead door. He lubed all of the rollers and hinges. He then had to adjust the double torsion springs, which were not counter balanced properly to help lift the heavy door. He also adjusted my torsion tube which was misaligned. The previous installers did a butcher job. This probably explains why my motor failed prematurely and why it is important having a professional, trust-worthy installer put in your garage door opener. Bryan also took the time to install a door handle on the door in the event we ever lost power, which would make it easier for my wife to pull up on the door. He had extra parts in his truck discarded from previous jobs and didn’t charge anything extra for it. He saves parts that are discarded and uses them to help customers where he can. I’ve seen that in other posted reviews as well. I thought it was worth mentioning again. After adjusting and lubing all of the components and testing the door to make sure it opened and closed flawlessly with minimal effort, Bryan went to work on installing the opener. He installed it, tested it and then helped me set-up the Homelink opener in my wife’s car, the single door remote that came with the unit, the wireless keypad on the exterior of the garage (which was separate from the kit) and the MyQ Wi-Fi feature, so that I can open the garage door with my cell phone. I could have easily followed the instructions and done all of this myself which would have taken some time, but Bryan being very familiar with the products he installs, wanted to make sure he didn’t leave until everything was working as expected. That, in my opinion, is a true businessman who values his customers and counts on word of mouth and repeat business! Needless to say, Bryan was professional and thorough. He is old-school and made sure I was completely satisfied before he left. I will definitely be using Bryan if I have any garage door issues in the future and will recommend him to all of my family, friends and neighbors who live within his service area.
