Plumbing
On the earlier house renovation once completed and tenants living in it, 3 leaks reported. They were from the shower head
connection into the basement, kitchen drain leak, a leak from a pedestal sink in half-bath, and my request for a higher quality outdoor spigot which I could never tighten to keep it from dripping. He came to correct the leaks, however the pedestal sink continued to leak, and my tenant closed the valve behind the sink and just didn't use it. When my tenant readied to move to a home they purchased 2-1/2 years later....she told me, by the way, that pedestal sink leak never got fixed. While I was completing the second renovation which Kratzner had been hired for, I called Schmitt plumbing who corrected Kratzner's work at a cost of $170.90.
On May 7, 2015 the last plumbing item on the second renovation was to hook up a power vent water heater in the basement
of the new construction. During this time while installing new siding I had no need to go into the basement but when I did
when the electricians needed to get to the breaker box, the newly installed valve Kratzner used to hook up the water heater
had split and was spraying water in all directions. I called Kratzner immediately May 26th to fix the leak and 24 hours later he replaced the defective new valve. As a result of this leak the 500 sq. feet of 3/4 inch hardwood flooring above showed warping (cupping) six weeks afterward. In a certified letter to him I asked that his insurance pay for the sanding of my new flooring but he did not address me by phone, mail, or in person. I saw him in person at his residence (which incidentally is not the address
listed for business purposes). Without a word mentioned at all about a law suit either in my letter or in person he accused
me of trying to get something for nothing. He was rude and abruptly went on his way and said "Have a good day".
My plumber Dalke of many years had retired and I gave Kratzner a try. He has a young family, new in town. I have paid
him always on completion of work a total of $8585. on two renovation jobs. He treated me, a loyal customer, quite badly.
He said he fulfilled his responsibility of replacing the defective valve ...and at no further cost to me... and.that I waited too long;
that I should go to my own insurance company to pay for the damage done..
This plumber works alone and I get the feeling he doesn't like having to go out in emergencies. He actually told me that.
In my personal residence an old pipe broke on a Friday and I waited until the next Monday for him to put new plastic to reconnect. We used rain barrel water for flushing and bottled water for drinking and cooking. But the defective parts and/or
his assembling resulting in my warped, newly laid flooring was the last straw. It is hard to gauge how he figures work time, also. He comes and leaves often on the job and then lingers to opine. And count the leaks; six of them. "Leaks are Me" is what comes to mind now. He should add it under his "skull and bones" logo. Beware.
