SCHARM FLOOR COVERING

In May 2024, Scharm Floor Covering installed new luxury vinyl plank flooring in our basement. I've known the owner, Fred Scharm, and his team for years through the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce, so there was no question about who to choose. My wife and I visited the showroom to look at samples. Fred and Kristy were friendly and explained the advantages of different brands. Luis, the installer, showed up on time, was diligent, and pleasant. He checked with me on any uncertainties and cleaned up after the installation, leaving us with a clean basement and gorgeous new floors. For quality control, Matt and Fred stopped by to adjust a couple of planks due to our uneven base flooring. Overall, it was a smooth process, and we’ll definitely call Scharm Floor Covering for future projects.

The woman who helped me on my first visit was very helpful. I was originally going to go with vinyl, however she told me that laying laminate over the existing vinyl floor would be more cost effective. The estimate was thorough and included every aspect of the job. The installers were very professional. They arrived on time and were finished on time. They also cleaned up behind themselves thoroughly.

Carpet looks great. Unfortunately, the work crew did minor damage to a grandfather clock, broke a leg on a teak desk, and there was minor damage to other pieces. I replaced a damaged ceramic piece and I am replacing the damaged furniture . . . but the owner took no responsibility for the damage. I know accidents happen, but I cannot in good conscious refer them as the owner would not take responsibility for the damage caused by his installation crew.

We could not be happier with Scharm. Everyone was wonderful to work with, from the front office all the way through installation. We had 4 rooms to carpet so they accomodated our request to spread the work out over 2 days, thus allowing for the movement of furniture from room to room. Alex and his crew were very easy to work with and took into consideration any requests we made for the way we wanted carpet finished in doorways and transition areas. We would definitely hire them again.

Everything went smoothly. The workers were professional and prompt and we are happy with the result.

Great.  The guys came and got it done, even when there was excess snow on the ground and they had problems getting there.  They were informative, and good at what they did.

Installer arrived promptly, completed job and left area immaculate.  Scharm provides professional, personalized service.

The staff were super friendly and responsive to our needs. The installers were really fast yet thorough. We've used those discount places that advertise on TV all the time - you know their phone numbers by heart - and this was such a better experience I can't even put it into words. And then, on top of that, when we did some remodeling in the powder room that left some bare floor exposed, the owner Fred came and personally completed the job to make sure it all matched.
I recommended Scharm to my parents who needed some help with their wood floors. They were thrilled with the professionalism and the 60+ year old floors in their house look brand new!

This was a 2-day project. We needed to move everything off the floor area to be covered. The installer arrived on time in the morning on day 1 and installed the subflooring.  It was necessary to avoid walking on it overnight as much as possible. He came the next day to lay the flooring. He did a nice, neat job. It looks great, and wears really well. It has stood up to scraping chairs, rolling dishwashers, and all manner of dirt and fluids. All in all a great improvement.

Excellent customer service.   Luanne patiently took time to help us find the right tile for our needs.  Fred came out to measure, had good tips for the trim wood, and advice on how to repair the front door tile area.  The installers were first rate and were very conscientious.  Scharm's installation was designed so that it will allow us to replace cabinets at a later date without harm to our new floor.

Carpet was a high-end Karastan carpet installed in multiple rooms; customer service was excellent and the installers were extremely fast, courteous, punctual and professional.

Went just as planned - on time and on budget.
Installer (Joe) was a perfectionist and a pleasure to work with.
Floor looks great.

Quality installation

Fred Scharm (the owner) came to our home to take measurements and offer advice for the jobs we needed done. He is very professional and friendly.
First, we had ceramic tile in our foyer that needed to be removed and new Armstrong (slate-like) tiles needed to be installed to replace it.
The office staff are very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. They are so easy to work with. I took different samples home several times, and it took awhile to make my final decision. When the decision was made, it was easy to schedule the work to be done. The tile installer was friendly and efficient. He did a wonderful job. I love the new foyer look!
Next, we had old carpeting in our hallway/stairway that needed to be replaced. Scharm has a different professional for carpet installation. He was also very friendly and efficient. The carpet work was finished in one day and it looks beautiful!

They were very good. They knew what they were doing and they cleaned up after themselves beautifully. He even washed my sink for me in the kitchen. He understood about the safety hazards and he took care of everything.

Made floor repairs for a laminate flooring and installed a number of trim pieces that had been missing. It went very well, they were on time, had the right parts and got the job done.

Vince and his partner came to my house to install carpet. I was extremely impressed with their work. It only took 4 hours. I did alot of research with other carpet companies. They by far beat all other smartstrand carpet prices and quality. I would definately use them again in the future. The carpet is definately soft and plush which I love.

I have never had such a positive expereince with a company. They were prompt, courtious and did a remarkable job. They cleaned up and after they were done, they even helped move a large table back into place. I would say that there is no better carpet company than Scharms. They will be my first choice from now on. I was so impressed.

The quick summary is that our basement carpet has never looked as good as it does now. Over the years the carpet had become rippled and stained in a large great room, hallways, bedrooms, and stairs -- more than 1,000 square feet.
Repair: Re-stretching carpet that had become rippled over the years. It took quite a bit of effort to re-stretch the carpet. Some parts
in the hallway had to be cut and reseamed. The sections on the stairs had to be retacked. They did not take any shortcuts.
Cleaning: With a teenage boy at home the carpet had taken some abuse. There was more than one strain that I would have bet money that those stains could NOT be removed. All the stains were removed and the carpet was
cleaned perfectly without being overly wet.
The house was a couple of years old when we bought it. They basement carpet had been cleaned a few times including touch-up cleaning with a portable carpet cleaner. However, I do not remember the carpet every looking as good as it does now! If I had known Scharm could do that to the carpet I would have called them much sooner.

The carpet guys came right on time and were very professional. They took care when moving furniture in each room and made sure that they stretched the carpeting in the right direction to get the best look. Even though the job entailed doing areas in 3 bedrooms, the dining room and a hallway, they were done in no time. I was very pleased at the quality of the work and would use this company again!

The service was great. They were very responsive and great to deal with. Only thing is that they installed thresholds (sanded and stained to match the flooring) which was not in estimate. Cost us $120 for 6 ft of threshold. They would not reduce the price and it was partly our fault because we could not be home while they were doing the work to confirm whether we wanted them to do that. I personally would have just gone to Home Depot and bought $12 thresholds. They went ahead with that so that the wood matched, etc.
Other than that, I will be recommending Scharm flooring to everyone who asks.

Finished product was very good. Floor looked great. Only issue was threshold was too high for door to close and since we don't usually shut that door we did not find out until much later. We felt it was too late to call them back, so I fixed the issue myself. Other than that the floor is great.

The installers were on time. We had already had an in-home consultation as well as visited the showroom to pick out the carpet we wanted. Everyone was very helpful, knowledgeable, and personable.
They removed all existing carpet, including putting in rolls with the measurements and requirements for our garbage pick-up. The job was done within an hour and we love the new look and feel of our carpet!
