Choice Cut is great -- we have never had a problem, they do nice clean work, and they are very responsive via email. Just what we were looking for in a company to help us maintain our lawns!

I have been using Choice Cut for my basic landscaping needs for 3 years now-they always do a great job. This year I choose to make some major changes to the front of the yard. We added a new wall and plants, trees flowers etc. Paula came out and worked with me to draw out exactly what I wanted. The project started on Monday morning and was completed Tuesday morning. Everything is beautiful and was reasonably priced for everything that they did. I would highly recommend Choice Cut for not only your basic weekly lawn maintenance but also you extensive landscaping projects. Their team is amazing to work with, very thorough and the do what they say they are going to do-which to me is most important. The owners Ray and Cindy are real people and if you are fortunate enough to get to know them you will be better for it. Thank you Ray and Cindy.

They come out once a week. Their lawn maintenance is $27. They have a fuel surcharge and they have a disposal fee. They charge separate charges for cleanup in the spring and in the fall and trimming. Those are all separate charges. I find their trimming rates kind of high. When dealing with the office, they're very accommodating. The crew has a tendency to do some damage in the course of their work. Not every time. But, more than once. About a month ago, I had to call them and complain that their landscapers were busting holes in my screens. The boss was very accommodating about it. He canceled the charge for that particular service by way of trying to compensate me for it. It didn't cost me anything to get the thing repaired because they had just been installed. The construction company came out and fixed it without charging me. That's good. But, over the years, Choice Cut has been frustrating to work with at times. When you start to think about it, it's difficult work because it's tiring and it's out in the hot sun. The people who do it, have a good work ethic. But, they don't always get things done right. I can remember one particular time, the landscape crew came out to do a fall trim and nothing had grown since the last trimming. They try to do trimming twice a year and my house only needs trimming once a year in general. So a guy came out to do the second trimming and there was nothing to cut. He looked around, tried cutting something. There was nothing to be done and so he packed up and left. He didn't tell the boss that there was nothing to do. They billed me $425 for it. So I called them up and told them what had happened and he goes, "Okay. I'm canceling the charge." He is very good about that. The next year, when they came out, it was a different person and the fellow looked at me and he looked at the house and said, "There is nothing to cut here. Okay, I will tell the boss that there is nothing to cut." So they left. I haven't been billed this year for that. It's a little difficult to cope with sometimes. It is really frustrating when you get a bill for excess of $400 and nothing was done. The last time I had a problem, I had almost canceled the service. Because of the responsiveness I got from the call I made to complain, I chose to keep with them for a while.

Paula Vermett was our main contact at Choice Cut Landscaping. She quickly dialed into our modern aesthetic and provided us with design solutions above and beyond what we had imagined. She supervised a team of amazing guys who treated our project with great care. They all worked so hard to get everything perfectly lined up exactly how we wanted.
Paula was very present, and reachable throughout the duration of the project, seeing everything through to the very last detail. Her skills as a designer are impressive too, she took a nasty old shrub and turned it into a bonsai work of art. It’s now my favorite thing in our entire backyard!
Overall, it was a great experience and we're very happy with the results.

This company provides extremely basic service for the prices they charge.  Frankly, I am ashamed I have used them this long and not taken the initiative to fire them and find someone better.  I feel like I have wasted a great deal of money over the last 3 years.  I am looking into a better provider right now (at last!...LONG overdue), and will switch as soon as I find someone.  I have finally had enough of their prices and poor quality work.  I hired them when I first moved into this home three years ago.  In my previous home with much larger grounds, I had used several landscapers whose work was far superior to what I have received here.  The service is irregular and inadequate.  My lawn does NOT look like I spend $2800+ a summer on maintenance, I can certainly tell you that.  It is highway robbery.  I have complained about the weeds, the lack of edging, etc. and the answer is always to pay more for additional services.  Trust me, the work that I am already paying for does not look good and not done properly.  There is no way I am giving them MORE money.  I will find someone else to hire who is more professional and more thorough.  I usually let it go -- do not complain. I am a single, working mom and very busy.  I thought it would be worthwhile to spend the money to have help with my lawn, but I am now questioning that decision.  On at least 2-3 occasions, I was irritated enough to go out of my way call them to complain.  Once was in the fall.  My children and I took time and care to put up Halloween decorations in the front yard.  Given that we never know when the landscapers will show up, we had them up on a day that they came for service.  We happened to be driving up to park in front of the house when they were mowing.  To my surprise and disgust, we watched as the serviceman ripped our decorations out of the round and THREW them over his shoulder into the bushes.  Unbelievable.  He broke things and treated our property with disregard.  The kids were upset, as was I.  After I complained, the company did apologize and provide some service credit.  Last week, I called to complain about the state of my yard.... asking why I was being charged for "weed control," when my lawn was a jungle.   I was told Jose would come out right away to assess.  Well, he did --- but instead of noting the lack of service, long grass, and unacceptable weeds, he simply left an invoice for a proposed $500+ more in services.  No way.  This is NOT what my lawn should like given what I am paying.  Furthermore, a professional, capable landscaping service should take pride in their work.  When a property looks like this, they should talk to the owner.  They should take care to keep the property looking nice, and giving suggestions for further work as problems are spotted.....NOT wait until the customer is so disgusted they complain.  Furthermore, I think it is crazy to charge $200 to weed my tiny flower beds.  I have a very small yard and very small beds.  I went out and did myself yesterday for free, spending 60-90 minutes.  Lesson learned.  I have been paying far too much.  In sum, you can find better.  I know I plan to.

They were prompt, efficient and we were happy with their work. The representative was very helpful and willing to work with us. After they planted a tree, shortly after we had storm, and it was a hard to get them to come back out and straighten the tree.

Work was needed as a result of some sewer related excavation, to improve shady areas with old or non-existent planting, and because we installed a new walk and stoop (pavers installed by related company, 3-D Brick Paving).  We enjoyed working with Choice Cut Landscaping - they were responsive, did a  nice job of spacing and planting, and left us with good instructions (especially since this was during the drought!).  When we were not completely in agreement with the selection of plants by one person assigned to project, others stepped in and demonstrated flexibility and a real commitment to customer satisfaction.

The prior reviews are correct, this is a very basic lawn service when they show up. I signed up for weekly lawn service and they showed up about half the time. The invoices were also often inaccurate requiring me to have to call and reconcile. To me, this should be a service I don't have to think about and it wasn't...

We worked with Paula from Choice Cut Landscaping. She was pleasant to work with and was generally on time for appointments. Responding to emails or calls took 3-5 days (rather than 1-2) in general. She came up with a nice plan for landscaping the front of our house. Initially she did not provide a drawing of what she would do, but did so when requested. Also the initial proposal had several incorrect prices, but she provided the updated proposal when this was pointed out. It was also mildly disturbing that their responsiveness to emails was delayed, but they were calling for payment just a few days after providing the final bill.

The work was all professionally done, but her workers left a pile of large stones at the front of the house, which they inexplicably did not clear away. However, they did so when requested. Since the landscaping was done at the end of the fall, we'll have to wait for the spring to see how everything grows, but they do provide a 1 year guarantee. I also thought the price for installing sod ($1.66 per sq foot) was excessive, but they provided this estimate late, and were already doing the job, so we went along with the price.

The process was great.  The designer met with me to scope the area, gather information of my likes and dislikes to create a layout and provide a price breakdown.  Once we scheduled the date the crew arrived on time and started removing the old bushes, they planted the new bushes and all the remaining perennials. When the work was completed we had a new yard. I look forward to see the plants bloom next spring.

Both the owner and the designer arrived on location to view the progress.   Everyone was professional, friendly and wanting to meet the clients expectations.

They're more into landscaping than other companies, which we had need of.  It's very good work and I'm very happy with them.  The prices seem reasonable.

Customer service was very responsive and courteous in the scheduling of the project.  They came the morning of the day they were scheduled. My boyfriend was at work.  When he stopped home by lunchtime, project was complete.  Yard was neat, no mess left behind.  The job done was great.  Couldn't be happier with the whole process and experience.

It went great. They were prompt, got it all done in 4 days and even came on Saturday. There was one issue with reassembling a raised garden box but as soon as it was mentioned they came back within the hour and fixed it. Very good at follow up and returning calls, the sod looks beautiful. Very happy and will likely call them back in the Spring to do more beautification type plantings.

They were very clean. I liked the way they worked with the other company. They listened to our input about what we wanted. We're still waiting for spring to see what everything looks like, but it seems like they did a great job.

I think they were connected to the paving company that we used 2 years ago. We had the guy come out and he talked to us about the work. We were pretty happy with them and we didn’t get any other estimates. They did a very good job and the pathway turned out better than I imagined. They put more into it than I thought and they did it in a very detailed way. I would use them again in future.

Initial meetings with Tanja were good. She spent time to understand my landscaping goals and budget. With that in mind, she shared a layout for our front yard. After comparing multiple layouts and prices, we decided to go with Choice Cut. After signing the contract, they came out within a few days. The plants that they initially brought and planned to install were poor and appeared ready to die. The supervisor on-site agreed to replace the plants with new ones. The next day, they planned to install the largest and most expensive element of my landscaping - a tri-colored beech. It was a big disappointment and not anything like the pictures provided in email. I did not like it, but Tanja continued to push it on me. Reluctantly, Tanja agreed to replace it. After selecting a Japanese maple as my tree, Tanja agreed to match the price quoted by the nursery. After the tree was installed, I received a bill for $75 more than what we agreed to. After contacting Tanja and asking her to fix the bill, she again started to argue with me. Tanja agreed to call me back to resolve the matter and never did. She also agreed to provide pruning instructions for our new plants and never did. Overall landscaping job was good, but my experience with Tanja was poor. After securing the contract, she constantly made me feel as I was very low on her list of priorities. She was always late, took other calls while we met, and continually had to run to other meetings. We are all busy, but we manage our time to keep our paying customers pleased and a reference.

We found their work to be good, but follow-up is poor. Initial sales and design work with Tanja went very well, however, some miscommunication occurred once we got started. The crew arrived unannounced a day early, and two existing plants were mistakenly removed. Choice Cut Landscaping immediately agreed to replace them with new ones. All of the new plant placements were well done. Once the work was completed, we did have a few items that required follow-up; Tanja visited and personally inspected the job, and had her crew out within 3 days to perform some of those items. However, it took over 3 weeks for her crew to return. Also, we have not received planting layouts or maintenance schedules that we requested for the new plants, although we have asked about them multiple times. Most of the work done by Choice Cut was good; however, the follow-up required to complete the job is time consuming and could easily be improved. UPDATE- September 25, 2008: Cindy (co-owner) contacted us last week to resolve any remaining issues. She had heard of our dissatisfaction (through this list) and wanted to correct the situation. We had a telephone discussion after which she suggested that she send Mike out to assess first hand. Mike arrived on time and after walking the property said they would correct all remaining items and dress up the flower beds for any inconvenience. A day later, the yard work was completed and Cindy stopped by to drop off landscape plans and personally assess the work. We are now completely satisfied with the work. The attention we received after Cindy's follow-up was truly an example of good customer service. It shows that Choice Cut is willing to stand behind their work, and is committed to customer satisfaction. Based upon this last experience with Choice Cut Landscaping, we would use them again and recommend their services to others.
