After the City of Chicago ruled out the originally proposed material due to fire code considerations, Benchmark recommended and installed a different type of material. This would have been fine, except that the material was very poorly installed (boards not even, ragged cuts, etc.). Furthermore the installers splashed paint on the roof/deck, creating unsightly conditions unacceptable to the homeowners. The aluminum coping was dented and disfigured upon installation. Benchmark was extremely slow to respond to complaints about the quality of their work, making only half-hearted efforts to correct the problems and claiming that since management had "accepted" the work and paid the bill they had no further responsibility. They stated they would do no further corrective work without additional payment and demanded an additional payment for the corrective work they had already done to that point.
