What a great experience. Charlie came and did a very professional estimate of the work. He put in a new track, cleaned the rollers, plumbed an out of square frame, new screen door that rolls like it is on glass. The team was neat and professional. The came on time and cleaned up completely. Definite recommend!

Everything went great.  On my initial call, Charlie quickly diagnosed the problem and provided clear estimates on what would likely need to be done.  An appointment was set for the following day, and Phil took care of us beautifully.  I spent one minute showing and explaining the screen door issue, and he knew exactly what was needed (replace the top screen roller).  Since we didn't really want the screen to "self-close" and worried about our children damaging the spring on the roller through their rough use of the door, he even removed the spring to hopefully reduce future issues.  He also noticed a broken screen door handle (as new homeowners and novices to patio doors, we hadn't even noticed!) and offered to replace that for us, too.  Moreover, Phil took a look at our second sliding glass door in another room and made some slight (free of charge) adjustments to ensure that door functioned well.  Finally, he provided insights into how we could lubricate and care for our doors to prevent future hiccups. The whole service call took about 45 minutes.  Easy, convenient, and much appreciated service call.

Over the years my outer sliding patio storm doors developed a closure gap when closed.  I located Sliders by referral from a storm window company.  I noted their fine review status on Angie's List, then called to schedule an appointment to get an estimate for repair.  Charley, the owner, came out on schedule, calling just before arrival.  He carefully appraised the situation on both the outer and inner doors, then gave me a detailed, itemized estimate.  I made an appointment to have the work done.

Both his office and he called shortly before the appointment to confirm the arrival time.  He and his associate, Phil, studied the door situation and then discovered that the previous estimated work would not be feasible as the doors could not be readily removed from the framework.  At my suggestion, though, we arrived at a work-around for solving the closure gap on the outer doors: installing new weather stripping.  Because of this change and since the doors could not be removed to install new rollers, the scope of work was considerably reduced.  They then proceeded to do some minor but useful maintenance, mainly on the door tracks.

Despite the fact that most of the projected work could not be done, I was still pleased with what could be done.  I was particularly satisfied with the pricing schedule that Charley uses, clearly laid out on his invoice forms.  They worked on this project for almost two hours, and I thought that my final cost was more than fair.

He applied insulation and changed the rollers which were rusted out.  A proper lubrication with PTFE and the door slides like a dream and NO MORE NOISE.

An interesting postscript:  Phil, Charlie's assistant, just rescreened two large doors.  They had been sun-bleached and had tiny holes.  A week earlier, I had left the sliding glass door half open to get some fresh air.  When I returned a few hours later, the door had mysteriously closed with no other person in the house.  I looked at the base of the door and saw what looked like a raccoon, only to realize that my 17 pound, Maine C*** Cat had managed to get between the screen and the door, and apparently when he tried to exit he slid the door with him!  A true testimony as to how easily the door slides.  The cat was unharmed, but I don't think he'll mess with Charlie's door again!

The door wouldn't slide without great difficulty. He fixed the problem with the adjustment, once and for all, at no charge as he warrants his work for 3 years. I am very satisfied with him as a vendor and his work.

Came out inspected work that NEEDED to be done - three large sliding doors - in evaluating other windows/doors we were concerned about suggested we wait as the perceived problems were not worth the cost to repair.
Gave us a firm estimate on the spot. Scheduled day to do repairs, were on  time (actually called ahead to let us know they were on their way). Fixed all the issues as promised, spent considerable time to make sure job was done right. Actually revised billing DOWN as one of the problems required a different approach. In the end the total job cost us LESS than quotedow often does that happen? Charlie and his crew are real professionals. Very pleased with their work.
An important point - it took us some searching to find Sliders - only showed up in our search on Angie's List. We had found another vendor with premises in downtown Chicago who came out and looked at the doors and discussed providing an estimate to REPLACE our sliding doors -many thousands of dollars because of the area involved. They called us repeated times to discuss the job and would only  to come and do a formal estimate if we gave them a non-refundable $200 deposit. Since we had not located Sliders, we reluctantly agreed. And then despite their phone calls they never showed up to do the estimate - in fact denied they'd even scheduled the visit. Big waste of time.

Repair went fine except for the bumper that was installed to stop lock switch from banging (and breaking...hence the repair) against the fixed window frame.  Charlie's (the owner's) recommendation was to make sure and put the newly installed lock switch down in order to avoid it hitting and breaking.  This meant, however, that every time the door was closed, it needed to be locked and someone inside the house expected to come open it.  Instead of doing all of this, a longer bumper could have and should have been installed to prevent the door from sliding so far and thus avoiding the need to keep the door locked so the switch wouldn't break again.  The reason for the poor review is that after the new lock switch was installed it was promptly broken again to which Charlie lectured my wife about the need to keep the door locked as he'd told her to do.  Rude, inappropriate, and to our mind passive aggressive.  Won't use again.
Response from SLIDERS

"First of all, this review is coming from the Lake Forest husband who was not present and to whom we never spoke... He got the somewhat skewed details second hand from his wife. Two of our men spent two hours completely removing the door and replacing the Pella rollers on their sliding patio door to the absolute satisfaction of the client. We thoroughly cleaned the tracks 360 degrees, replaced the broken latch, filed burrs on the track, lubricated the lock and cleaned the glass... all again to the satisfaction of the client. We noticed, however, that there were no bumpers on the door to prevent the handle latch from hitting the frame again when opened. So, we installed the largest bumper we had on hand with absolutely no cost to the client to prevent the handle from hitting, but not the latch, if it were positioned vertically. We recommended the client to throw the latch to the down position when the door was open so it wouldn't be impacted if the door was thrown open with force. She understood. We told her that two Pella bumpers would be needed to be installed in the upper and lower tracks to do it right, but we had none on hand at the moment. When we told her that there would be a charge to return with new bumpers, which we were waiting for from Pella, she found that unacceptable as she had already spent too much. Later, she called the office to say that her children had opened the newly repaired sliding door with such force... and without putting the latch lever in the down position that it cracked the latch lever again. She wanted us to return to install new bumpers and a new latch without cost. She was very irate and said that she couldn't watch her children at all times. We gave her three options: 1. We would return to install new bumpers and a new latch lever for the same $77 that we charged her the first time to replace the lever alone. 2. We would send her a new latch lever with bumpers without cost for them to install themselves. 3. They could buy the parts from Pella and we would return to install everything without cost. None of these options were acceptable. We were not rude and actually suggested that she provide this review to Angie's List, so that we would have the opportunity to set the record straight. We try to do everything possible to achieve customer satisfaction, but we do not appreciate being taken advantage of."

Really enjoyed working with this company.  We moved into a new house and the screen door was broken when we moved in.  We did not know who the manufacturer was and the previous owners didn't know either.  Sliders had a guy (Phil) come over and take a look to see if it could be fixed or if we needed a new door.  Turns out we just needed a part, instead of a new door, but they could not proceed without the manufacturer name.  There were many moments when we gave up trying to figure out who the manufacturer was and asked Charlie to just order a new screen door.  He didn't let us give up, he kept telling us it would be a huge saving if we found the manufacturer name.  The lady at the company (i forget her name) ended up helping us find the info they needed and it all went smoothly from there.  I appreciate Charlier (and the lady) perservering to save us money.  Plus, of course, the door is now fixed and works and just in time for summer!  Thank you Charlie, Phil and the lady at Sliders!

,Charlie came, gave me an estimate and did the work. I bought a condo and the sliding patio doors were really hard to move. I was not wanting to buy a new door,  so I called Sliders. The bottom line is they fixed  the door,so it was useable and saved me a bunch of money. I am very happy with the service and would reccomend.

Because winter was upon us before I got back with Charlie, we were waiting for some warmer weather to work on my 5 sliding doors.  He called last week and said we had an opportunity with a 45 degree coming up, and he and his guy Phil showed up on time and did an excellent job on our 35 year old slider.  It was in BAD shape and now I can open it with one finger.  4 more to go, and I think I'll have him replace my screens also.  I'm excited for warm weather to get the rest of them done.  He advised, and I have checked and others agree that these doors are much heavier and more weather resistant than anything we can buy now for XXXX+ the price of replacing them with a lower quality of door....consider repairing your bearings instead of replacing!  Approximately $185-$250 per door...check the price of replacement!

Charile came out to provide an estimate.  We had a time set and he showed up exactly on time.  He said the estimate was going to take 15 minutes, and it took exactly that.

He was friendly, professional, and didn't try a hard sell. We arranged for them to repair the door about a week later.  The repair went exactly as planned, exactly as quoted, with no suprises.  The door works exactly as it should.

If more contractors operated this way, we would have many more repairs done on our home.  The experience was exactly as we expected.  The work was done properly, the price was what we expected, and we didn't get any BS.

Our patio sliding door would not open/close very well at all.  We called Charlie and he was very knowledgeable and friendly over the phone, he came out to give us an estimate, and was able to diagnose the problem quickly.  He assured us he has been doing this for many years.  He was right.  Our house was built ~1980, we moved in ~2007.  The work was done almost 2 years ago - I just remembered to submit this report because my Dad was looking for similar patio door work, and I pulled out the information.

I must tell you, Charlie did a great job fixing our sliding door, he promised us we would be able to slide it using only 2 fingers.  Two years later, it is still running just as smoothly as when he first fixed it.  We have used it many many times.  I would definitely recommend him.

Our experience with Sliders was great!  They were prompt with answering the phones, arriving and getting the work done, were very professional, clean and knowledgeable and got the doors done when I didn't even know if we would have screen doors again!  They will be coming back soon to fix our old sliding closet doors.  What a great service!

There is more cold air coming in the door he adjusted than before he worked on it. The weather stripping does not stick to the doors so it is totally ineffective. I went and bought the weather stripping putty and sealed the drafty leaks myself.
Response from SLIDERS

"We provide all our customers a 100% satisfaction guarantee for a full three years. It is printed on our invoice in color. We mentioned to the member that due to the extreme cold on the day the work was performed that the adhesive on the weatherstrips may not hold securely, but to call us back as soon as the weather gets above freezing and we will replace it. We have never received a call from this customer. Today we left a message for her and offered to replace the weatherstrip with one with a stronger adhesive material or we would refund her total bill in full."

Everything was done within a week. Charlie even fixed a small problem, without charging me, with my front door. He explained my options to prevent damage from the dog from scratching on the screens. He sent someone back with the pet screen to let me see how it would look, and let me keep it so my husband could see it when he got home. I wish all companies provided this quality of service.

Although the fees are listed on the company's website, the owner offered to come over to estimate the cost because i was concerned that the unusually large size of the patio door might be a problem. He arrived when he said he would and assured me he could fix the problem. He and his workers arrived when they said they would, removed the huge door, replaced the door rollers and the track, and put the door back in place, where it slides as easily as he said it would. He and his workers were pleasant and professional -- and I would gladly hire them again.
