Excellent. We initially started with a design firm, but decided to reach out to Mark Golan based on a recommendation from a friend. We needed someone to stretch our minds. My wife and I needed to be challenged, especially when it came to space utilization and how to build the addition. Mark's energy level and ability to stretch our minds was outstanding. In our first meeting, we knew were going to hire Mark. He simplified the process by calling rooms "boxes" that you can repurpose. We avoided knocking down walls by repurposing our interior space. This saved us from knocking down load bearing walls which in turn would reduce building costs. When we hit stumbling blocks, we'd call Mark and bounce thingsoff of him. He quickly reeled us back in, and made us focus on function over everything else. Several times, Mark quickly had my wife and me on the same page in a 5 minute conversation. In the end, we saw value in using Golan as an architect because: - We were able to make clear, comfortable decisions through the design process - Mark helped us shave building costs because he avoided unnecessary work in his designs - Mark understands local rules and ordinances, and his work will make the permit process much more efficient. - Mark's ability to team with other parties (designers and builders) must also be noted as he has a collaborative approach and can make recommendations without causing friction.
