Promax Construction
About us
With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Promax Construction has the tools to knock out any job for your home or business. We have honed are craft through years of experience and know how to get the job done right. We believe in offering great value to our customers without comprising the quality of the craftsmanship or materials. We cut costs by purchasing wholesale and developing long term relationships with our staff. We are comfortable guaranteeing all of our work. Promax Construction is fully licensed and bonded. Meaning, the customer is always protected under our coverage. When you hire Promax, rest assured the job will be done right with no head-aches. In a tough economy, many homeowners are choosing to save money by hiring independent contractors without the proper licensing and insurance. We do not recommend this practice. Not only do homeowners have no guarantee the job will be done right, they are liable if someone gets hurt on the job. Another example we notice frequently is when a homeowner hires a roofer on the side to repair a roof. 5 years later the shingles are falling off the roof. A quality roof job should last up to 50 years. The homeowner tries to call up the roofer to fix his work and the roofer is out of business, left town, or refuses to honor the guarantee. Save yourself hassle and money by getting the job done right the first time. Licensed. Additional DBA - Promax Construction Corporation. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/promaxdecatur

Had there not been a rain day, I think my old roof would have been torn off and the new roof put on in two days.
They ran into problems when it came to the roof over my enclosed back porch. The expectation was that they would install rubber roofing because of the very slight angle on that part of the roof. However, when they took off the old roofing and the underlayment, they found another level of roofing and underlayment (and apparently the entire thing was at risk of collapsing into the back porch). So they rebuilt that part of the roof such that it has a sharp enough angle that regular roof shingles could be used.
I approve of what they did to that part of the roof, but I do not approve of how it was handled. I was not told in advance that the extra work was to be done, and when the foreman (?) drew me aside and pointed out the extra work, he indicated the bill would be higher than the original estimate (but not how much).
In other words, Promax did work to my house that increased the cost of their work without notifying me in advance.
I have NO complaints about the work done. But I am unhappy with how said work, as it was being done, was communicated to me. The additional $500 that Promax billed me after the fact had been set aside for other work to be done on the house.
"We have reviewed the customers response and are disappointed she was not satisfied with the work. We recognize that we did not do the best job communicating the amount for additional work to the customer. I will say that it is common in the roofing industry for additional charges to incur after the existing roof is demoed because problems with roof decks and frames are not evident until the existing roof is removed. Once the issues are evident, the homeowner's home is exposed to weather and our roofers have to work quickly to resolve the problem and unfortunately the homeowner is put is this position where they feel they are forced to pay added charges without much say in the matter. Even if she didn't want Promax to complete the additional work it might take her at least a week or more to get another roofing crew to resolve this issue. The additional $500 we charged her was discounted significantly from the price we normally charge for rebuilding a roof over a porch. I can say if she bidded this service out to another qualified roofing contractor she would appreciate the fact that we only charged $500 for this service and resolved the issue as quickly as we did. While we admit we our at fault for not directly communicating the added charges, we hope prospective customers can understand the reasoning for our quick resolution on this matter."
"We regret to hear that the client is not satisfied with his service. We have attempted to contact him so we may have the opportunity to remedy any issues within scope of our agreement. We are committed to 100% customer satisfaction. The client is encouraged to call his sales rep. or our office at to schedule an appointment so we can come out and fix any issues. This was a complex project with serious technical and liability issues. Prices include an extended warranty, which we would be happy to honor if given the opportunity."
Promax does most of the work themselves, but they do sub-contract for some of their services. Geno was in charge of our project and he did an excellent job communicating when people would be here and any changes/updates that needed to occur. Every single person who came to our house was friendly and professional. Everyone cleaned up after themselves and they dealt really well with our two cats and our two small children, who were here for the last two days of work.
Promax is not necessarily the least expensive option, but I believe that you get what you pay for and the quality of work that we have is amazing. We get so many great comments on everything that has been done and we have a lot of people ask us for contact information. I am hard pressed to find one piece of the renovation that is my favorite, but the 7 foot wide barn door that Promax built and installed is truly stunning and quite the masterpiece of our basement.
I would most definitely recommend Promax to anyone who needs renovations done and when we plan any work in the future, I know exactly who we will call first.
Called to check on construction after finished and willingly repaired a couple of small items that needed it
"Upon reading the complaint, we contacted the customer and explained the reasons for the additional charges. In the original bid, the customer agreed to pay for all material from a legitimate third party vendor. There was an estimated material expense budget of $3000. However, the requested additional fixtures that cost over $3000. During the construction process, the customer agreed to expand the dry wall job to include the entire bathroom. The additional fixtures requested by the customer required an extensive amount of electrical work, installation of outlets and light switches. The company apologized for the miscommunication and agreed to cover the labor cost of installing an interior door. The customer was satisfied and the company considers this issue resolved. Customer that are not satisfied are always encouraged to contact the company directly to work out a speedy resolution."
We were given a hand-written estimate on a piece of paper. When we contacted the owner to tell him we were not satisfied, he offered to send more people in to fix what had been done. After questioning, these "new people" were just more sub-contractors that do odd jobs for him. When I requested money back for the work that had not been done properly and the work that still needed completed, he refused.
"The owners and staff of Promax Construction strive to maintain customer satisfaction and our disappointed that they were not offered the opportunity to resolve this dispute. As the customer stated in her complaint, she would not allow Promax the chance to send additional help to resolve the issues with the remodel. The additional help included one of the companies senior carpenters who has satisfactorily completed hundreds of residential and commercial jobs. Promax respectfully refutes the claim that they were sending "just more subcontractors that do odd jobs." It is also important to note there were complications at the job-site that were beyond the companies control. To cut costs, the customer opted to purchase the materials herself. Normally, the cost of material is included in the contract and the company would never request the customer to purchase more material. It is normal for some material to be damaged during a professional construction process. Because the customer agreed to be responsible for purchasing material, the carpenters requested she purchase more when it was needed. Regardless of whether the company or the customer was at fault, Promax made every attempt to rectify the situation. The customer refused to let the company finish the job. As a show of good faith, Promax nullified their contract with the customer when many construction companies may have sought litigation to collect the remaining balance. Unfortunately, Promax was unable to refund the deposit as it had already been spent on the work that had been completed."
The house has been totally transformed, the front porch which was originally about 4 foot by 5 foot in size is now 8 ft wide by 32 foot long. The windows in the front of the house went from 7 windows to 2 windows and all interior work that had to be done becasue of this was done professionally.
There have been so many compliments from people walking and driving by in the neighborhood becasue of the change made to the house and how nice it looked. We are looking forward to many years of enjoyment.
Thanks PRO MAX
"Promax Construction guarantees all work and the response of the contractors based on the facts presented by this client do not represent the standard of customer service we expect of our staff. Because this job took place over ten years ago, the company cannot verify these claims and offer retribution. The salesman on this job was unaware that she was unhappy with the job and he remembers that he thought she was satisfied. While we do no dispute the legitimacy of her comments, we regret that this was not brought to the attention of our company sooner. The contractors who worked on this job no longer work for Promax and the company has restructured it's ownership. Promax guarantees all work. Should any customer encounter an issue, they may call our office at 217-424-8900 and we will make it right. Promax Construction has successfully completed hundreds of home repair jobs every year and continues to remain busy thanks to the referrals from our happy customers."
