We received a coupon in the mail for an oil change and tire rotation at All Tune and Lube in Darien on Rte 83. We had an appointment, we arrived on time and my car was put onto a rack. Later the mechanic came to me and said the threads on the oil plug were stripped and they had to rethread the hole and put in a new plug. They then added the oil and they said it was done. I was suppose to have the tires rotated but they didn't do it. I was charged for the oil & filter change and the new oil pan plug and I went home upset.
Now why did the plug threads get stripped? I know occassionally the mechanic will try to screw in the oil pan plug and it it doesn't go in straight, then it will get stuck half way in. If it was stripped by an earlier oil change/mechanic, surely it would have leaked onto my driveway sometime in the past 4 months or the plug would have fallen out. NO!!! It must have been done by the mechanic at All Tune and Lube.
We spoke to the manager but he would not do anything. He said he was standing in a nearby bay and he knows his mechanic didn't do it. The manager said normally they charge to rethread the oil pan. I know it was not a lot of money for the plug but if the mechanic didn't do it, why didn't they charge me for the rethreading of the oil pan hole? I am sure it wasn't because we were a good customer. We may have been there once before for another oil change. They didn't charge me because they felt guilty for stripping the oil pan plug hole and the rethreading of the hole was labor whereas the plug costs money.
We will never go to All Tune and Lube and we suggest you don't either.
