We thoroughly vacuumed before they arrived and we moved all small items from the floor. They moved larger items (couches and chairs, end tables, etc) and returned them to their place after they cleaned. It took 2 1/2 hrs and the carpeting looks great. You could definately tell the difference before and after. My basement stairs were very dirty and now look almost new. They cleaned top and sides of stair. I would certainly use them again.
