We had a gentleman's agreement regarding the scope of work; mistakenly I did not get anything in writing . I was not as concerned about the price as much as the quality and therefore did not get any other bids; I simply trusted him based on our conversation and a referral. To insure clarity I reviewed he scope of work with Jeff again prior to him starting the job; so there should have been no reason for any misunderstanding. After the job had begun he changed his mind and decided it was too risky to install temporary supports under the deck (this after he had already purchased 6 x 6 posts-which are still laying in my back yard). The deck is 17 foot high so the project was a challenge; but that is why I hired a professional. There was never a misunderstand; he simply decided he didn't want to do that part of the job-which was the reason I hired Jeff to begin with. He was friendly and they did a nice job finishing the concrete; but it was very obvious his biggest priority was to just get on to the next job. The slab they poured (under lower deck) was to support the walls of a shed. Haste makes waste and the big hurry resulted in the slab being SIX INCHES OUT OF SQUARE. I had to do some MAJOR cheating on my shed walls to hide as much of it as possible. But it still looks like-well you know what. He was also to install a short wall on one side of the slab-but he denied knowing about that part of the job; after all it was the end of the day:( Maybe he simply underbid the job; so he felt he needed to make up for lost time. I wish he would have just asked for more money so the job would have been done right. My advice is to get EVERYTHING in writing and he may do a good job!
Description of Work: Excavate under existing lower deck, dig frost wall, pour slab. Under upper deck install temporary deck supports to enable removal of direct buried posts and install new raised piers. Expand width of driveway & pour new slab to expand parking area.
