So we had a handyman come in to remove to remove two cieling fans and install two, when he got to 2nd one in master bedroom there was no junction box (not sure how previous people that owned this house hillybilly installed it). So handyman did not do that kind of electrical work, so I called the electrical company they recommended and Wizard, the 1st one did not call back until 4 days later. I called Wizard, left them voicemail and they called back in about 30 minutes. Rob did a great job and would hire them again. He installed junction box and the cieling fan
Response from WIZARD ELECTRIC
"Hi [Member Name Removed] Thanks for the great review. We repair a lot of handyman jobs but not having a junction box is not typical in most of Chicago and surrounding areas. Homes & additions built for returning soldiers from WWII needed housing quickly and the us government build homes with Knob & Tube wiring in unincorporated areas (Hyde Park, Pullman and Park Ridge) of Cook County. Since we Specialize in Repairing & Updating Old Wiring and had attic access we were able to do this repair quickly. Thanks Again Bill Wizard Electric, Inc. 773-866-0000 X5"

It went well. The company uses an auto text notification program to remind the homeowner of the appointment. The electrician was on time and didn't leave a mess. The electrician gave me a good estimate over the phone based on my description of what I needed done. The price was fair I thought. He gave a senior citizen discount. I will use this company again.

Moved the light box in my bathroom wall up a foot to allow me to mount a new mirror on the wall. They were able to do this without any mess or causing me to have a gaping hole. They were great!

Wizard was quick to schedule our job. Seems to be good quality, neat work. Electrician showed up on time. Efficient. We'd recommend them, but we have a couple concerns: (1) We were told when we got the original estimate that we would get a discount if we had the work done within the month. So we scheduled the work within the month, but the discount was overlooked. My husband wrote the check without asking about it. I called to inquire about the discount later that same morning. Although I received a call back later that week saying they'd look into it and get back to me, I never heard anything. Because they've already been paid, I doubt there's any point in me pursuing the discount. (2) The cost of the job seemed a bit high to me. The electrician was in our house for 2 1/2 hours, and we were charged $300 for labor and $160 for the service call (the company is within a mile or so of our house). That works out to be $175/hour. The job was straight forward and perhaps didn't require the time Wizard thought it might. Or maybe electrical services are relatively expensive. We bear some responsibility for our experience. We should have gotten other estimates and we should have made sure that we got the offer of a discount in writing.

Very well. The electrician knew exactly how to install the swing arm lamps into plaster walls. The outlet seemed like a cinch for him. The notching in the walls is something I still need to patch one last time (he initially patched it), sand and then paint.

Wizard is fantastic, especially for bungalow owners. They did not have to even come out to give and estimate they are so familiar with them they could tell me different prices over the phone. The work, estimate, time and cost were right on.

Great experience. Left a message about 5 p.m. one day and received a call back by noon the next day! I'd assumed that my recently purchased bungalow would need a complete re-wiring. I called Wizard and spoke to someone on the phone that challenged the idea that I needed so much work. Said he'd send someone between 8am and 12pm to check it out. On the designated morning, I got a call from Rob at 7 am to confirm the appt. and at 9am he was at my home. About ten minutes later, Rob had traced all of my problems to a burnt out switch in my bedroom. It all took him some hours, but in the end, I set up the bath for a new light fixture and had him move my jacuzzi off of my HVAC circuit. I probably burned about an hour asking questions. Rob was respectful and very good about telling me about the costs of things. He was on time and on budget. He cleaned up after himself. Living in South Shore, I had been having a hard time finding someone to come out. Would definitely use again!

I had another company trying to rip me off. They were great, very professional and courteous. They were wonderful.

UPDATE -- Looking back on that project, and in light of more recent experience, I have to say Wizard did an excellent job. I shouldn't have been so touchy about the bush and dryer vent considering what they charged for the work they performed. Highly recommended, and wish I would've hired again for subsequent work.

ON TIME, POLITE 2-MAN CREW. THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS ONE ELECTRICIAN (NOT THE MAIN GUY) WAS WORKING ON TIGHTENING A LOOSE OUTLET, SUPPOSED TO BE A QUICK AND EASY (CHEAP) JOB. I WITNESSED HIM SHOCK HIMSELF AND DROP THE WIRES DOWN INTO THE WALL AS A RESULT (HE WAS OK THANK GOD, NOT SURE IF THE MAIN GUY WAS AWARE OF THIS AS HE WAS IN THE BASEMENT AT THE TIME). AS A RESULT, THEY HAD TO FISH THE WIRES OUT OF THE WALL WHICH WAS TIME CONSUMING (EXPENSIVE). THE ONE JOB WE THOUGHT COULD BE A BIGGER JOB (RESTORING POWER TO AN OUTLET) THEY FINISHED PRETTY QUICKLY. I'D RE-HIRE WITH THE ASSURANCE THAT NEXT TIME, IF THEY CREATE A PROBLEM, IE, DROPPING WIRES INTO THE WALL, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR TIME TO CORRECT IT (LAST TIME, I DIDN'T MENTION ANYTHING TO THE MAIN GUY ABOUT THE INCIDENT, I WAS JUST GLAD HE WAS OK). I'M NEW TO HIRING ELECTRICIANS, BUT THAT SEEMS FAIR TO ME.

THE ESTIMATOR WAS VERY THOROUGH IN HIS QUESTIONS AND HELPED US CLARIFY WHAT WE WANTED TO DO WITHOUT PUSHING US INTO DOING EXTRA WORK. HE HELPED US WITH WAYS TO SAVE MONEY BY TELLING US WHICH PARTS OF THE WORK WE COULD DO OURSELVES. THE ELECTRICIANS WHO ARRIVED TO DO THE JOB WERE POLITE AND PROFESSIONAL. THERE WAS A BIT OF MISCOMMUNICATION REGARDING THE USE OF CREDIT CARDS AND EXTRA FEES INVOLVED BUT IT WAS RESOLVED QUICKLY.
Response from WIZARD ELECTRIC
"THANKS FOR THE GREAT REPORT. REPAIRING & UPDATING OLD WIRING IS OUR SPECIALTY AND WE ARE GLAD YOU ARE HAPPY WITH OUR WORK. TOM"

THE WORK REQUIRED THAT NEW ELECTRICAL BOXES TO BE INSTALLED WHERE OUR DRYER VENTS WERE LOCATED AND THE COMPANY DID NOT RELOCATE THE VENTS. THIS REQUIRED US TO RENT A LARGE DRILL TO DRILL THROUGH OUR BASEMENT WALL. IN ADDITION, THEIR INSTALLATION DAMAGED A DECORATIVE BUSH WHICH WAS NOT REPLACED. HOWEVER, OVERALL, WE WERE SATISFIED WITH THEIR WORK.
Response from WIZARD ELECTRIC
"THANKS FOR THE GREAT RATINGS! WE DO DRILL AND INSTALL DRYER VENTS BUT THERE IS AN EXTRA CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE AND IT WAS QUOTED TO THE MEMBER. WE ARE NOT LICENSED TO DO PLUMBING WORK SO WE COULD NOT LEGALY MOVE THEIR LAUNDRY EQUIPMENT AND HE SAID HE WOULD DO IT HIMSELF. IF THE DAMAGED BUSH WAS THE ONE IN FRONT OF THE ELECTRIC METER SOCKETS THE MEMBER KNEW IT HAD TO BE MOVED. IF THIS IS A DIFFERENT BUSH THAT WAS DAMAGE PLESE CALL US A.S.A.P. SO WE CAN TAKE CARE OF THIS. THANKS AGAIN TOM"
