Basement Waterproofing
We found that after 35 years of having a dry crawlspace under our house that we had 10 in. of water down there. We first called someone from our town's public work office to determine if this was connected with any local work or if we had leaking pipes, nether of which applied. Apparently, a rise in the local water table has caused ground water to rise into the crawlspace. We then called U. S. Waterproofing at their Rolling Meadows, IL, office. They sent a salesman out and he described their proposed solution (sump, interior drain tile and outside discharge) and gave us an estimate. He applied a few discounts (like Angie's List). The work also called for the installation of an electrical outlet for the sump pump. We accepted the deal and he arranged a time for his engineer to survey the job for final plans. They would be able to do the job in about a month and it would take two days to complete it. Meanwhile, we used a portable, submersible pump to dry out the basement as much as possible before they came.
The engineer arrived about a week later. When he surveyed the space to determine the best place for the sump pump, he realized that we would need more extensive electric work than his crew was capable of handling. We would need an electrician to install a dedicated circuit and run conduit to a far corner of the crawl space. U. S. Waterproofing adjusted their price down by about $500 to reflect that they would not be providing this work. We engaged our own electrician and had the work done before our date with U. S. Waterproofing.
U. S. Waterproofing arranged for the village permit, the marking of underground power, phone and water lines, and arrived on time on May 26th. Six men covered our floors with tarps and began by removing the existing wet pea gravel. They all worked extremely hard and were very considerate about keeping everything neat and clean. The second morning began with the village inspection, which was fine. When it came time to install the outflow pipe, they were careful to avoid existing plants, although we had cleared the space where they had to dig the trench for the underground pipe.
Everything was done efficiently and professionally. The pump has been busy getting rid of water ever since.

We were getting seepage in our utility room. U.S. Waterproofing came out and did an evaluation of where the water was coming from. They could have driven up the cost of what we needed done but instead kept things simple. The representative investigated where the water was coming from and told us we did have a crack in the foundation, however, the reason for the water we were seeing was due to an issue with our tuck pointing. He was very knowledgable. They came out of a couple of weeks later and filled the crack in our foundation.

After a number of delays involving permit that was ultimately needed, the actual work performed by the laborers, was very good.
