Stephen Griffin Painting

Because we were operating on a tight time frame so a new tenant could move into the apartment, it was important that Stephen show up and complete the job by the morning of May 3. Steven showed up on time and got the job finished as promised.l

UPDATED:  With the sun I was able to see a lot of mistakes such as the wall paint on the ceiling (not sure how that happened) and wall color on the trim; not 2 full coats on walls around windows (you can see the primer) and paint on the floor and brush hairs on places and something dripped and stained one wall.   I have not contacted the painter about all of this because i just don't have the time to go through the mechanics of working around the transportation issues; will fix myself, but very bummed about all that money and this type of job - not what i expected based on the other reviews, but think it was because they rushed due to transportation.  Make sure you are close by to them or make sure they are on time the day to finish the job so you can walk the work and it will be in condition for repair; in my case they were so late the paint was still wet so they couldn't fix anything where the 2 colors met.  I love the color; not thrilled with the workmanship on the paint for the money and that really makes me nervous about the plaster work.

overall it went well - there were some transportation issues which impacted timing.  He did not include painting the trim in the initial quote, so it cost me more than expected.  I felt they rushed to finish since their ride was here and they were late starting that day.  Not sure about the plaster repair; they did it differently from what i expected so little concerned about it lasting.  They put up the metal mesh over the hole and put up a coat of plaster over it and then painted the next day so there's only one coat on that hole and it is on an exterior wall so a little concerned.  He assured me it was fine, so time will tell - hope he is right since i'm putting in window treatments and this hole is right where the support has to go

I had severe schedule constraints due to my job, and Steven and Danny were willing to work some evenings and weekend times to accomodate me. This was a big success factor that allowed me to get the job done right away instead of waiting for available time off from work.

The process was  iterative - first the plaster repair, then a coat of primer, which revealed nicks to be filled in, followed by a coat of paint that revealed other spots to address. 

Steven explained in advance that this was the typical process, in that each layer of paint helps you see spots that you can't see before that point.

I'm really glad I got this work done - the hallway is just beautiful!  

I contacted Stephen for an estimate on plastering and painting my kitchen.  He returned my call and came out to give me an estimate rather quickly.  He and another gentleman came out and did the job in two days.  I had some tricky repair work by my backdoor and they did a great job in fixing it to look as best as it possibly could.  They also did a wonderful job with the plaster work as I had numerous large cracks and some water damage. You can't even tell I had this based on the job they did.   I am very pleased with the final product and would hire them again. I don't remember the exact cost of the job but I think it was approximately $480.00.  I know it was just under $500.00.

It was wonderful, I have the highest, highest recommendation for him in all of the categories. He repaired a plaster molding that had been very damaged by a leak over several years. The ceiling was in very bad shape and the molding was destroyed in several places. He rebuilt it with plaster, painted it and it looks beautiful. He did a very, very good job, he's a very professional person. He is very fair in his pricing.

Fantastic, I will never use another company when Steve and his Team can perform the services. They were prompt from the minute that I put the call in for them to come out for an estimate till completion of the work. The work was done beautifully, and the clean up was exceptional. They even helped me more furniture back....They are also very nice and did not have problems with me having several pets...in fact my pets miss them.... I will be hiring them very shortly to paint my outside shutters and to put in a drop ceiling in my basement. They do many different things besides painint and are excellent handymen....

Stephen was very prompt in getting us an estimate -- two other places we called didn't get back to us at all, but Stephen got back that afternoon. They did a very nice job and the house looks like new. We felt we got a good deal and would definitely use Stephen and his associates again. They also were very sensitive to the fact that a family member was ill and made adjustments as to when they did certain work based on when that family member was awake.

I highly recommend Stephen. He came out and gave a reasonable quote and was ready to start on the job immediately. He is a craftsman in this trade. The wall repair, ceiling repair, and paint job exceeded my expectations.

Stephen was on time for the estimate and actually gave an estimate on the spot. He proposed scheduling on the spot as well. He showed up for the job on time, finished it that day and cleaned up beautifully. And he charged exactly what he estimated. I appreciated his professionalism and his art. There don't seem to be a lot of people out there who know how to do this and he does it beautifully. I couldn't be happier.

Stephen gave us a quote when he came for the estimate; we didn't have to wait. He personally did the work (along with helper Bruce), no middle person or office staff. His work is excellent. Our walls look new. Stephen filled nail holes and touched up a couple of spots on the ceiling at no extra charge as well as smoothing over backsplash area where tile will be installed. Very professional in manner and work. We will definitely call Stephen again should we need his talents. The reason I gave a "B" rating for price was we received an estimate much lower than his quote. Also received a higher quote. Since the lower quoted work (from a company found on Angie's List) wasn't done we don't know if the job would have been satisfactory or not. We are very happy we chose Stephen.

It was great. When he started the job, he was on time, was efficient in what he did, and he was very tidy as he worked. I would definitely use him again as things need fixing.

Stephen was very easy to work with and delivered on what we agreed to, in terms of price and the job itself. Actually, when I had an additional small request after he started the project, he went ahead and did that too, without re-quoting the project. Just a very fair person to work with who does a good job.

Stephen did a very good and complete job, working late to get the whole thing done in one day. Everything looks nice and there was nothing major for me to clean-up after he was gone.

The job took Stephen a couple hours longer than he expected. However, he did not charge us more than the original estimate even though we decided to pay him a bit more for his hard work. The room look excellent and we are very pleased with his work.

They did a great job! They finished up in four days and the house looks great. He was able to schedule it quickly and the weather cooperated. Stephen always does an excellent job and pays attention to detail.

Excellent! Stephen responded promptly to my call and was able to come by the next day to look at the job. He explained what would be done to repair the plaster. The walls were severely cracked with deep gouges. Stephen scheduled the job quickly and got it completed within the time that he outlined (2 days). They arrived promptly and worked very cleanly and efficiently.

Stephen returned my call the same day and stopped by to give an estimate the next day. He was able to begin work before I was ready (had to wait for electrician to finish.) He added $75 to the initial bid after seeing additional work necessary because of additional wall damage caused by the electrician. He completed his work in the promised time frame, and gave us smooth, crack-free ceilings and walls. We are ready for new cabinets to be installed. Stephen also provided me with an estimate for painting, in case I am unable to complete the work before my new tenants move in. He is knowledgeable about his trade and easily reached by phone.

The job went well overall. Stephen came out for an estimate and was able to complete the work the following week. On the day of the work, he came out with one associate. He went through the house and confirmed all the cracks we wanted fixed. I was very pleased that they were able to get the different paints matched so I didn't have to repaint the entire rooms. You can't tell at all where the cracks were. We did have one snag. After they had gone for the night, one of the cracks in the ceiling of the master started to bubble. I immediately called Stephen and he informed me that he thought there might be a problem since the previous owner had tried to fix the crack with shellac. He asked if he could come back out the following morning at no extra cost, which I agreed too and he fixed the problem. My only complaint was with some splatters on my furniture from the plastering as well as some paint splatters on the floor. For the price and work, I would hire again.

I called Stephen and explained what I was looking to have done. He came out the very next day to give me a quote. He was on time, polite, and seemed extremely knowledgeable about plaster. He started the job quickly, thoroughly covered all of my hardwood floors, furniture, and belongings. The job took around 4 days, just as I was told. Stephen did a great job. He was tidy, placing all of his materials in a corner everyday. The walls couldn't have looked better. After the project was finished he uncovered my belongings and swept up, leaving the place in clean condition. I was extremely pleased with the work Stephen did and would recommend him.

We are getting ready to sell our house and needed a reliable painter/plasterer who could come in, freshen the house, walls, and trim up and not only paint rooms and trim, but a professional who could handle all the small details like figuring out the exact colors of the walls, plastering cracks in the corners of walls from building settlement, fixing wall cracks. Steve was great! He came over gave us a quote, was able to start immediately based on our schedule and needs, showed up everyday on time, worked very clean and neat, super trustworthy as we had to run out many times for big chunks of time, and he was incredibly helpful in this whole process. I found Steve through Angie's List and can't recommend him enough. I would definitely use him again if we weren't moving out of state!

He came over and gave an estimate immediately. He understood how to repair plaster walls. He started work a couple days later. He did an incredibly thorough job, cleaned up at night before he left, and got the job done in 3 days. We also hired him to hang IKEA cabinets (this was a separate job) and he did a great job on that as well. Essentially, he re-did our kitchen for us in less than a week. We highly recommend him.
