I can't say enough good words about Peter, Voytek and their crew. We've had a few masonry issues in our building. In two instances, they identified that the cause of leakage was not with the brickwork, but with deteriorated window caulking, or the downspout. We appreciated their honesty. I looked high and low for a company to caulk the exterior of our high third level windows. STAR came through for us. They used a bosun chair to do the job. STAR also repaired and replaced bricks which were in disrepair, on the third level deck. Their workmanship was excellent. Peter and Voytek are very professional and knowledgeable. STAR communicated very clearly with us about their suggestions and plans.

This is the third time that I have had Star do work on two houses and they are simply the best. Excellent craftsmanship and a fair price. No BS. No hassle.

I would call Star Tuckpointing for any tuckpointing needs in a hot minute. I’ve already extolled them to neighbors and friends. When fielding bids for the work, Star Tuckpointing proved to have the widest knowledge base and experience. They were clear on what work was needed now and what could wait. They explained the process in detail and answered my questions thoroughly. The guys who did the actual work were prompt and cleaned up each day. The work to replace the lintels required the removal and replacement of fieldstone. I was impressed with their abilities—an artist’s touch, really. It looks fantastic. They were understanding and patient as I decided on the color of the mortar and when I was unsure, provided more options. The billing process was professional and all made very clear.

Just had our 1941 house totally tuckpointed and lintels replaced by Star Tuckpointing. They are beyond excellent. Great quality and extremely easy to work with! If I was to move to a different brick home - I would not even go out and get bids and estimates from other tuckpointing contractors. They do not try and "up sell" and will give you honest opinion of what needs to be done. In fact, my original quote included doing a masonry wash. During the process, they did a small sample and recommended that it was not worth doing to the common brick. Saved me $1,500! How many contractors do you know who will give you the straight scoop? I would definitely use them again!!!

We worked with two different tuck pointers last summer. Our experience could not be more different. We first contacted the tuck pointers due to moisture seeping thru the front parapet wall and draining into window frames. Since the repair by Star Tuckpointing, it is dry. Additional work was done on the side parapets and general tuckpointing and bricks replaced as needed. Star was very responsive, answered all of my questions completely and even drew sketches to help me understand the moisture problem. I found them very honest and even volunteered ways that would save money such as terminating one of a 3 chimney grouping since it wasn't functioning or needed. They were on time and worked the full day weather permitting and cleaned up well. They stayed on the job until it was completed. I would definitely call them first if I need tuckpointing services again. Call them early in the year, they book up quick.

Star Tuckpointing did superb work on our recent masonry project. The lintels above the windows in the octagon at the front of our 80+ year old bungalow were rusted and deteriorating, causing the bricks to shift and, ultimately, leading to water leakage into the living room ceilings. Star Tuckpointing was the only vendor I spoke with who, right off the bat, offered to clean and reuse the original brick. That's huge for repairs to an older building as there is no way to match those classic bricks. That endeared these guys to me right away. But it was the experience of having the work done that tells me I made the right choice. Star Tuckpointing is a family run and operated business - the crew consisted of father and sons, uncles and cousins, and the attention to detail and pride in their work exhibited is notable. The reconstruction is seamless. They installed new windows and rebuilt the wall, the octagon parapet and decorative cap stones. The mortar is a darn near perfect match. The cleaned and reused bricks look great. They replaced a poorly designed downspout with a new scupper box and replaced the roofing behind the parapet with new materials, work that looks better than it must've when the building was brand new. I'm confident that we'll have no more water issues. In addition to the parapet rebuild, the crew went around and spot tuckpointed all the various cracks, touched up the brick arches above window openings, etc. Everything looks great! We had originally intended to forego rebuilding the original stone retaining wall for the garden along the front of the house, after all, it's just a garden wall, nothing structural or that would cause any immediate problems, but after having the other work done, the cracked and leaning wall looked so bad compared to the beautiful new front of the building that we added it on. Now the home looks fantastic! The work was performed quickly and efficiently. The site was cleaned up after each and every day's work. It was a delight to have these guys on the job and if the need for other masonry work arises in the future, I know I have only one call to make. Thank you to Peter and Boycheck and the whole family for a good well done.

A little higher price than some others but I will always use them in the future. The work is truly excellent. The grout work and color match is superb. It took them longer than I expected to find time to work on my house, but they were up front about it the first time I talked with them and I appreciate that. Once they got started the work was quick and professional. I will definitely use them again if I need tuckpointing or any other brick work.

Star Tuckpointing is a company that you can actually trust to get things done correctly. They were able to effectively resolve years of masonry issues on our 5 story mid-rise after several others had failed. After tuckpointing, caulking, and sealing around the building (two coats on the side and rear cinder block masonry structures), our recurring leaks are largely resolved.

Star Tuckpointing was so helpful. Their team was reliable and the work was done when they said it would. We had a couple of things that we needed tweaked after the job was finished and they were equally quick to respond - esp given the fact that these were free fixes. We will need the sealing done again in 5 years and will be using them again.

The estimate was the best I received and the work was done sooner than expected. The mortar was matched to the existing color and new bricks were used where needed. Excellent job.

Star Tuckpointing did masonry repair, tuckpointing, and waterproofing for our 3-story condo building. We have split-faced block (which is well-known for water problems!) on two sides of the building, and we have brick on the other two sides. From start to finish, they were professional, knowledgeable, thorough, and responsive. I had many questions about how to maintain the split-faced block and other aspects of our masonry, and they took the time to thoroughly explain their recommendations, their work processes, the materials to be used, scheduling, etc. After contracting the work, I wondered if I would get the same quality of service. With other contractors, I've found that sometimes the person who does the proposal and quote is more thorough and conscientious then the crew that does the work. I'm pleased to say, this was not a problem with Star Tuckpointing. The Project Manager who quoted the work was onsite periodically to monitor the work and provide me with updates. I also spoke with other crew members and found them all to be helpful and knowledgeable. In the end, I was very pleased with the work, and as a bonus, they did not forget to clean up after themselves. Since the time they did our original masonry work, I've called Star Tuckpointing twice for water leaks on other parts of the building (these were new problems, not issues with their original quality or scope of work). In both cases, they were highly responsive, communicated well regarding scheduling, were knowledgeable about common sources of leaks, and were able to repair the problem. Overall, we've been very pleased with Star Tuckpointing! I feel we’ve gotten outstanding service and I highly recommend them. I will call them again for my own building needs when the time comes.

We have used Star a few times. As always they did a great job. Quality of work is very high and I am picky. Price was better than most as well and that is always good. They were busy so, took a while to get to us, but I am willing to wait for good quality work at a fair price.

Our building capstones around the roof parapet were installed during construction without a moisture barrier or wicking. Additionally, there as lots of need for Tuckpointing on the face of our building and the inside walls of the parapet. None had been done in the building since it was build over 10 years ago. Peter initially came out to do a walkthrough with me to prepare a bid. He was very thorough and professional, taking time to explain everything to me. Voytek handled the project once it began as my main point fo contact. He was extremely responsive and had everything very well organized. The project was completed on time and very professionally. I really enjoyed working with Voytek because of his responsiveness. He was quick to return calls and was onsite himself at times with the crew. He gave me a clear understanding of what work was being done and scheduling. Being in a self managed building means me and the rest of the board are often tasked with securing bids and organizing maintenance projects. If you are in Chicago and have had to do this, you know how difficult it can be to even get a contract to call you back after your initial inquiry. This was not the case with Voytek and Star and I would gladly work with them again and recommend them.

This is a long-time A company with Angie’s List. They also have earned awards. How could I possibly rate them F? Read below to find out. Spoke to Peter at Star Tuckpointing to have some work done. We established a time on July 11, 2018 for him to come over for an estimate. He gave me a two-hour window. Peter did not show, nor did he call. Normally, that would be it. Tuck pointers are a dime a dozen. But given the fact they were so highly rated I called him again. Peter profusely apologized and agreed with me this is not a good way to begin a business relationship. I told him since he is so highly rated on Angie’s, I was willing to try again. We set up another appointment the following week on July 18. Again, I stayed home and waited. Would you believe he stood me up again!!! No phone call, no explanation. This is the first time Angie’s list rating did not pay off for me.

We were having water coming into the house during heavy, driving rains via the outside of the chimney that damaged drywall on the inside of our townhouse. The roof was replaced recently and I contacted the roofer. He came out several times and said it was the mortar on the chimney but also redid some of the caulk where the flashing met the chimney (which he had done originally). It rained again and there was more leaks. I wanted a second opinion and called Star Tuckpointing who does all our masonry repairs. Voytek came out right away, went on the roof and determined that the mortar was not the issue. The flashing that the roofer installed was not caulked properly and Voytek showed me pictures where there were obvious gaps (the whole thing was a mess). Rather than debate the issue with the roofer, I asked Voytek to fix the problem, which he did for a reasonable price. Now the caulking of the flashing to the chimney is solid, smooth and gap-free. I cannot emphasize the responsiveness of Star Tuckpointing and the quality of their work. Star identifies the root cause of a problem and fixes it. I highly recommend their services.
