Metal Roofing - Repair
They have tried to bully and take advantage of my family but they won?t do that to me!! I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE!! They have made my grandmother house look like a haunted house trying to throw rotten boards back on the fascia as well as offering a quick job of repairing the chimney back which was denied because the trust with their craftsmanship is tarnished! We also had to clean the debris around our house and yard by ourselves! Furthermore their general contractor license expired in June of 2025 so they were doing work ILLEGALLY!! AVOID THIS PLACE AND GO WITH YOUR FIRST MIND AS WELL AS A MORE REPUTABLE COMPANY!

"My name is Edward Baker I am the owner (and still 100% involved on all day to day operations 365/24/7 and expect to be for at least another 20 years) Second City Roofing and Exteriors and have been so, for the last 45 years and I am still thoroughly involved and working as hard as ever to keep this company on the right course. We would also like to say that we did not magically appear out of nowhere, we were doing a project on the same block and as we always do, we canvased the block to see if anybody was interested in work. We would also like to say that all of our licenses are totally current and have been for the past 45 years. We do provide at point of sale copies of our licenses and insurance and it is possible that an old license was in the package but certainly Ms. Daniels had the opportunity to bring it to our attention to which we could?ve provided a current certificate. As stated in the review by Ms. Daniels, Josh Baker is my son and has recently come to work for the company and let me be the first to say he certainly doesn?t know everything there is to know regarding the ins and outs and does has limited experience. Josh was the sales representative and thought he was evaluating the project properly with a discussion between him and the customer that turned out not to be the case. In this case the customer thought that we were rebuilding all the soffit and fascia around the entire house which in all my years we have never done. 99.9% of Soffit and fascia jobs are a matter of covering with aluminum to make them maintenance free. Most wood replacement on soffit and fascia jobs are very minor for our goal is to make sure the aluminum work stays in place forever. Our intentions are always to do what is necessary to complete the job properly and keep the price down. In other words there was a huge miscommunication between the customer wants and what Josh thought we were contracted to do. Mistakes happen. Upon recognizing the miscommunication we were more than willing to do the job the customer thought she needed at our cost. It is important to note that no work was done to the soffit and fascia when the miscommunication was realized. Also, part of the job was to tear down existing chimney and build a smaller one. Yes, in fact the chimney was torn down and we were willing (even though the customer asks us to leave the job) we were willing to rebuild the chimney to its new size as stated in the contract for free and at this time still willing to do so and the customer said not to do it. In conclusion, we did not make this house look like a haunted house because we didn?t do anything. We apologized profusely for the misunderstanding, Second City Roofing and Exteriors is an A+ rated with the BBB and a 4.8 rating with Angie?s List. We are highly regarded and have 350 reviews that are extremely positive. We will continue to take all steps to ensure all of our sales representatives are as knowledgeable as can be, again, mistakes happen there were certainly no wrongful intentions towards the Daniels."

From the time I met with the sale prof., Luis, the experience was amazing. Permit was provided, all work was done when he said and he oversaw all steps and the job was (and is) PERFECT. I would not hesitate using or recommending them again.

Although the price was a bit higher than a few other contractors - it was well worth it. The quality of work was amazing!!! I really mean this and the professions that did the work were wonderful to deal with. Everyone on both projects showed up on time - kept me informed regarding what to expect and after everything was done, I was extremely happy. I love my new back porch , it was a large project because it covers a two story brick building but I have to say it exceeded my expectations. Casey was wonderful to work with, always answering my questions quickly with complete explanations. My neighbors are marveling at how great everything looks. I would highly recommend them.

Had a leaky back porch roof that had been done in old fashion (nails) and bad masonry, and resulted in leaking that caused holes drywall to cave in section of porch roof. Called several roofers over months; they were either unable to do the job, charged excessive rates or unresponsive. Second City responded, provided a competitive quote quickly and (after some scheduling issues due to weather) completed the job as planned. They were respectful, answered questions and addressed concerns. No leaks in new roof (I know b/c we haven't fixed drywall yet). Also referred an AC guy who did good work as well - would use again.

I received a timely call to set up a time for a quote. The quote was turned around quickly, and was in the middle of those we received. We moved forward with Second City because of their responsiveness and how well the gentleman who did the quote knew his stuff. They let us know ahead of time when they would be out, and worked with us when we discovered we were missing a few pieces of the new siding. The job was done quickly, when they said they would do it, and the quality is good. The business office was easy to deal with and responsive. We are planning to hire them again on any future projects that are within their scope of services.

They rebuilt the roof portion of the dormer, re-surfaced the roof, sealed off the nail holes and edges, and replaced the siding with new aluminum.. They did an outstanding job, and it only took about half a day. They even cleaned out the gutters, replaced the missing shingles on the house and garage, and fixed a few other things that were not technically part of the deal. Awesome service! I would hire them again in a heartbeat, and in fact plan to do so soon.

It was difficult to set up and obtain the estimate. However, once they provided the bid everything went smoothly. They were very easy to work with and all of their work was installed timely and professionally. Would definitely hire again.

When I bought my house it was as is...I knew the deck needed work! AllPro came in and helped me realize my dream deck. Sonny designed and customized every detail, including the placement of a Fire Pit. In the end my old worn out "as is" deck, has doubled in size and is wonderfulI love It.

I was really pleased with the price and the work. My roof was removed down to the decking of the entire home. The wood was in great shape so none of it had to be replaced. 30 lb. felt was installed as well as 3 ft. ice and water shield with starter shingle and ice and water barrier to interior protrusions. Edge flash for proper run off to gutters was installed. All gutters were aligned and sealed. Since the replacement of my roof, I rarely get any water in the basement from the heavy rain. As a matter of fact, I've only gotten about a half of gallon about three times since I've replaced my roof. I use to get anywhere from 3-5 gallons per heavy rain. The foreman, Casey, was excellent. He made sure that everything was done well. He came out each day that the guys were working. The work was completed in 2 1/4 days. They did a great job. The cleanup was great as well. My salesperson, Steve, was very thorough and patient with me. He answered all of my questions and concerns. He showed me the company's licenses and proof of liability insurance. He explained the warranty. Upon completion of work, he mailed the manufacturer's warranty for the asphalt shingles to me, as promised.

Ed and his team are fabulous! Ed is such a nice guy to work with and very trustworthy. He checked in regularly to update me on progress. His crew was always prompt, efficient and friendly. They did a wonderful job on the roof and masonry work. We had one issue where one of the steps to our deck was broken in the process. I sent a photo of it to Ed and he had it fixed the next day, no questions asked. Though Second City was the most expensive quote we received, they were the most thorough and identified issues that no one else caught. I would highly recommend Second City and would use them again.

Great! Every time it rains, we can tell that the new roof and repaired gutters are doing their job keeping us dry and moving water away from our house. The weather was a little dicey during this project, which messed with the schedule, but Second City did a great job keeping us posted on their schedule, and everything was completed in a timely matter. They did an excellent job cleaning up when they finished the job (in fact, our yard probably looked better after they left than before they started). The skylight has been a great addition to our house, completely transforming our upstairs landing.
I would recommend Second City to anyone and would definitely use them again.

Actual roof replacement, main house & garage was completed on the first day. 6+ person crew started reasonably early, after 8-8:30 but worked "late" until 5 or 6pm to finish up. It's been almost 60 days, and several rains and we've not had any leakage issues around 3 skylights. The shingles appear to be very well attached despite a couple of heavy wind storms that we've had this spring.
The full crew came & worked hard the first day. On the second day a 2-man (person) crew came to finish off the last couple of items.We initially used 2nd City to install heat tape in our south east downspout last fall. But this crew did not seem to know how to install it and did not have proper tools (e.g. drill bits, snake) for the job. I was way too involved in the installation, especially given the high quality of the original heat tape installation the previous fall from the same company, albeit a different work crew.
The other "gripe" is that wood was replaced on the garage behind gutters that needed to be painted, but the gutters were re-installed without any notification. Given that they were going to be back a second day, it would have been nice to know so that the painting could have been been done before hand. This created additional work, taking the gutters down and re-installing them after-the-fact. Painting was beyond the scope of the work order, and I did not expect 2nd City to do painting, but a little effort on the crew's part would have saved a great deal of work.
When I called 2nd City about it, they were quite responsive. They sent out another (2-man) crew the following day to check on the viability of the new installation. As was, the tape did not work when plugged in. After some adjustment, they demonstrated it working to me -- it was warm in hand.
The gutter-paint fiasco and the heat tape installation are the sole reasons for not giving As across the board. The primary roofing effort seems like it is 1st class. But the primary roof did not need any repair or work. Responsiveness and punctuality are highly regarded.
The final consideration is would I use them again (I shouldn't have to on this building for more than a decade), and the answer is "yes" -- but I would supervise more carefully than I did.

My experience with Second City was terrific. I called the office and spoke with a very nice man who worked around my schedule to send a rep. out the next morning. Michael, our sales Rep. contacted me immediately to confirm the appointment time. He showed up on time and evaluated the situation.. He provided me an estimate ON THE SPOT and then emailed me a detailed quote. I really thought his quote was reasonable and fair given the amount of work that needed to be done. He was extremely knowledgable and gave me a plethora of information. The workers were friendly and completed the work very quickly. They even cleaned up all the debris and took it with them. The work was completed within a week of my initial appointment. I had contacted several other companies and received quotes from a couple that didn't even provide basic details of the scope of the work, and two other companies said they couldn't give me a price but would send me an estimate which I never received!!! I am thankful I found Second City and grateful for a job well done!

Steve was very professional and honest and ended up being the reason we chose Second City over other similarly priced estimates. The roofing crew was on time and finished the entire job in 2 days. Also very happy with the cleanup of the seemingly endless debris that was all over our yard during the process. We ended up having to pay a considerable amount extra due to spacing between decking. My only negative comment is that I felt Steve didn't accurately portray the chances of going over the estimate. He did tell me that you never know with an old house whats under all the layers (in our case, 5 layers), and that it was possible they'd have to replace the decking for an additional cost. My impression was that it was something like a 5% chance that we may pay an extra $500 to $1,000. Within 4 hours of the roofers showing up I was having to agree to an extra $2,200. All that being said, I'd recommend them to friends/family looking for a new roof.
