The clutch in my 2004 Saturn Vue went out. I wasn't even able to drive it, so I would have to have it towed to whomever I got to fix it. After calling several repair shops, all of whom quoted $1000 or over to fix it, Rod's Auto Repair said that they could do it for $850. I thought this was great, so I had AAA tow the car to them. Later the next day, while I was at work, they called to tell me that the problem was bigger than I thought. There was a cylinder that was leaking and would need to be replaced and it was going to cost me an additional $400. I was in kind of a bind. I was at work, the car was not drive-able, and I had know where else to take it at that time. Plus, I would not be able to get off work and over to them, with a Tow Truck, before they were closed. This would leave me with a $90 storage charge, to get it the following day. I told them to fix it.
I picked up the car, and it ran fine. They were kind enough to knock off $50, but I later learned that they had severely overcharged me. I found clutch kits for sale on line for just over $300. Those kits included slave cylinders and master cylinders.
I understand a business needing to make money, but this bait and switch was ridiculous. I am currently looking for auto repair classes, so that I can be better informed. Also, I have found that You Tube is a great source for credible information on auto repair. I will be more aware in the future.

Our company's e350 van developed a problem that needed a professional assesment/repair ASAP. Rod's is just a couple blocks away from our operation (luckily!) and I called to see if I could bring it in for a look. I was told to come right over, and limped our vehicle in to the shop. I was impressed with thier professionalism and understanding of the sense of urgency. I was attended to immediately. An assesment was made pretty quickly, that I needed an entire transmission rebuild, which they do in-house. The estimate was not higher than expected, in fact, for the extent of the damages, seemed pretty fair. BTW, Rods provided photo documentation of all the damaged parts, and had the failed components available for viewing as I was curious as to the potential causes. Sidenote: I brought my vehicle in before the big blizzard of 2011. Rods gave me a pickup date of Wednesday, and this was of course, before anyone was aware of how bad the blizzard would be. I could not make myself available for a Wednesday pickup, which would seem obvious to anyone who experienced tuesday's blizzard and what the city looked like on wednesday morning, but would you beleve that van was ready for pick up bright and early on thursday morning? No delays, no excuses, the blizzard was seemingly shrugged off, and that van, which is important to our operation, was ready to roll. Rod's is more than just a transmission shop, they are a complete automotive repair operation, and they have become my go-to for anything auto related.

I liked them because they explained things. They’ve been very nice and very helpful. The price was reasonable. They let you know the approximate amount of time that the work will take, which is nice. My check engine light was on and I wasn't sure if I was able to drive it or not; the mechanic told me that I'd be able to drive it but to get it in as soon as possible. I thought that was nice because other mechanics could have definitely taken advantage and told me that I would need to get it fixed right away. These mechanics are trustworthy. The work that was done was great. The car runs well. I will use them again in the future.

The car runs much smoother since getting a tune-up. I take my car to Rod's when it needs work because they do a good job, tell me costs up front, and will even tell me when my car does not need work. Their prices are reasonable too.

I saw an ad in the Sun Times about this company. The mechanic and a few others told me it was such a big job that I should just have the motor rebuilt, about $2,500. I didn't have that kind of money. Other shops wanted about $1,400. I called this company, they told me the price up front with a six month guarantee. The car runs perfect now.
