made use of his excellent carpentry skills.
One of those jobs was to make major repairs to my front porch.
Paul replaced a large section of the porch floor, he replaced
one of the steps, and he strengthened the
supporting structure. (I live in a 100-year-old Victorian with a
front porch that spans the entire width of the house.) Another
reviewer described Paul as meticulous, and I agree; but Paul also
brought great intelligence to the planning and execution of the
project. His meticulous attention to detail was a bonus that was a
pleasure to see.
A second project was to replace
the sort of cellar door that is outside many old Victorian homes.
(The door is positioned on a slant so that when you lift the door,
you walk down a short flight of steps to a vertical door that gives
access to the basement.) Sounds simple, but it took great ingenuity
to create what I asked for. I wanted a wooden entrance because it's
more in keeping with the age of the house (as opposed to a steel
door that I could have purchased at Home Depot or Lowes.) I wanted
to spend less than one of the steel doors would have cost. I wanted
the entrance to be attractive. And I needed the cellar door to be
light enough for a 100-pound female to lift. Paul did all that (he
solved the weight problem by building two slanted doors that meet in
the center) and more. One bonus (I didn't think to ask
for this) was a set of latches underneath the doors so that the
cellar doors can be locked from inside. Plus, the entire structure
is more attractive than I could have imagined—once again due to
Paul's creativity and meticulous execution.
Paul completed several smaller jobs as well (basement steps repair,
new back door threshold, kitchen door repair)--in each case making
use of his superb carpentry skills, his intelligence, his creativity,
and his meticulous attention to detail.
He did everything he said he was going to do.
Meticulous work, takes alot of pride in his work. You just don't find
his work ethic anymore. Definately hire him again!
