The sidewalk in our gangway had settled and was tilting towards the house.  This caused a problem whenever it rained as the water would drain along the foundation.   Phil was very good with communication.  When the crew came out they removed the old sidewalk, saved the sod that had to be removed, framed it out, and a couple of days later (due to rain) they came out and poured the concrete.  I couldn't believe the attention to detail - it was great!   They came back the day after the pour and removed the framing and replaced the sod.  I'm very happy with the work done and would call him again if needed.

Over the years the front steps of our 17 year old house tipped downward and pulled away from the house.  We got 3 estimates to replace them.  All were about the same cost.  However, Phil's estimate was very complete and well written.  In talking to him, it was clear that he really knew what we wanted and knew how to properly do the job.  He knew what the builder did wrong, and how to pour the new steps so that they never moved again.  My wife and I both felt he was the best candidate by far.
Due to the wet spring, work couldn't start for a few weeks. He called and gave us a about week notice that work was to start. They came on time. They knew new exactly what to do. Phil took his time to lay out the shape of the stairs and sidewalk perfectly.
They made no mess at all. They refilled the dirt holes and replaced the sod patches. He even put up a temporary mail box during the work.

The final result is stronger and much more attractive than what our builder did. I'm absolutely thrilled!
P Steinert is the best there is!

Re: P. Steinert, Inc.,4433 N Lamon Street, Chicago,
Illinois.
I give P. Steinert Incorporated an unequivocal positive recommendation. Phil is third generation in the business started
by his grandfather in 1947 and the work was performed with old school
craftsmanship.
Everything stated in the written proposal was accomplished.
The job was to replace the existing front porch and sidewalk
leading from the public sidewalk to the front porch continuing around to the back
of the house. I don?t care for the gray
look that regular Portland cement yields so I asked if it could be done using
white Portland? Phil made up four
samples. One with white Portland, one
with gray, a third with two parts white one part gray and the last with two parts gray and one
white. This was done before he knew if
the job was his. He is very
accommodating and helpful.
Work started by reducing and breaking up the existing porch
and digging down three feet to pour a footing.
Before the footing pour, several ½ inch rebar lengths were doweled into
the existing foundation. The footing set
overnight. The next day the porch was
framed and a matrix of ½ inch rebar assembled throughout the porch on 16 inch
centers and the junctions wire wrapped together. The porch isn?t going to move.
I didn?t want stones popping thru the surface as can happen in
regular aggregate pours. He recommended a
¾ inch top coat of just sand and cement to prevent shalling or popping stones.
There was a crew of three men in addition to Phil who was on
site 80% of the time. Each knew what to
do and didn?t have to ask questions. Each
could fill in for one another whether framing or finishing. They are an expert crew who has worked
together for years.
Concrete for the porch and stairs was mixed on site and the
¾ inch topcoat applied.
The sidewalks required sand and stone fill which was tamped
with a motor driven tamper.
In order to set the sidewalk forms, some patio blocks had to
be taken out from an adjacent patio area.
When the forms were removed, the blocks were replaced, leveled and set
in sand so there?s no evidence of ever being disturbed. The grass was replaced
by hand and tamped in place.
The original estimate was $4,170. I asked that the stairs have a radius. Rather than coming straight across I wanted
them to bow out 6 inches in the center.
Phil made the curved forms on site.
There was an additional charge of $130 for the flex framing material. White Portland is more expensive so for the
mix I wanted, 20 bags were required for an additional charge of $280.
I couldn?t be more pleased.

They were efficient, clean, professional, punctual and their work speaks for itself. It is now November of 2013 and the works looks just as beautiful as it did when they did the work in 2006.
They are a family owned business, started by Phil's grandfather. Old school craftsmanship and attention to detail was important to them.
I can't recommend them highly enough. I have had countless people comment on their beautiful work as they pass my house.

We had used Phil for 2 previous jobs and were very happy with his work.
He did our front stairs and walkway, as well as a stone patio in our
backyard. As with those 2 times, his estimate came in lower than the
others, and his work was excellent. Phil is friendly, punctual, and in
every way professional. He goes the extra mile on every job to make
sure we're happy, and even suggests extra touches to improve the project. On this project, he found 2 beautiful old cast-iron railings for us, had them sandblasted, painted them to our specifications and installed them. They look great and are very sturdy.

I was very pleased. They did exactly what they said they would, and in fact did a little extra when it appeared it was needed. They were flexible in regards to scheduling, showed up when they were supposed to, and did quality work. Obviously, with concrete, cracks may develop later, but at this point I am very pleased. They handled themselves professionally, and I would most definitely use them again if I needed concrete work done.

I have always admired the look of the Steinert's steps with a curved lip on the steps. When I finally felt able to hire them, their customer service blew me away! They are punctual, care about our needs, helped resolve some problems, and even repaired some brick walkway that I could not get my previous contractor to repair. The stairs look beautiful and they even recommended a great contractor for the railings.
