I called an made a morning appt with Kathy M. Informing her I had a rooftop unit. She indicated they would call the day before with the 2 hour window. Since this was for a tenant I had to make arrangements with the tenant to be available since it was a rooftop unit. First issue. We did not receive a call the night before as we were informed. Kathy stated she forgot to call and apologized. We received a call at 7:53am the day of the appt informing us the tech would be on site between 8:30am - 9:30am. Second issue. Kathy misinformed us by mixing us with another Angie's list member by telling us our 2 hour window was 8:30 - 9:30am. I did not found this out until I followed up with the tenant at 11:30am to see how it was going only to find out the tech had not showed up. I called and spoke to Kathy and she had stated she made a mistake and once again apologized. Techs finally showed after 1pm. There service may be good but they should be more organized. I may give them a chance in the future but the have room for improvement in responsiveness and punctuality.

I  ordered this service because my gas burning fire place would leave a residue smell when I turned it on.
Very professional and on time, but the employee really didn't do much else other than use a shop vacuum and clean out the gas fireplace.  I expected something more.   I am not saying that they didn't do a good job, its just that I was hoping that they would be able to "fix" the gas residue smell when the fireplace was turned on.

Our feeling is, this is probably an excellent heat/ac company, but the fireplace services are not up to speed yet, or we got an inexperienced technician. We let Kathy (communications person)  know that we were not satisfied with the offer we bought.  However, we'd like to say that she and the technician were both polite, cheerful and nice. But our experience was very disappointing. It was described as a Gas Fireplace Tune-Up, Cleaning and Inspection, and a Furnace Safety Inspection. All that it was, was a nice guy arriving with a floor cloth and shop-vac - and he vacuumed our logs, and checked the gas on/off, which we knew was working.. We had an issue of cold air/a constant downdraft, which was making the room cold, and we did not feel confident burning fires. We wanted this inspected and diagnosed. First the technician said it was coming in the back, then he discovered that we had a closure problem with our damper mechanism. We were having company and wanted to know about getting this fixed so we could burn holiday fires. We also wanted to find out if burning a fire was safe. Our technician did not have answers regarding repairs, nor was he carrying a CO2 monitor, as he said someone else was using his. We asked him to call the most experienced person with fireplaces in the company and ask for help. He said he tried two people and could not get in touch with either. He guessed that there might be some kind of non-flammable seal we could put around the quarter inch opening, but he didn't know what that would be or an approximate cost. We asked about putting glass doors on to resolve the cold air coming in problem, and he promised us a call on Tuesday (three days later) with answers and prices on both issues. That call did not come. He basically knew how to vacuum logs with a shop vac (which we have and could do also), and we had to ask him to please vacuum the draft handle, the fireplace itself and the screen. He took a quick look at our furnace, but noted it was under contract for care and maintenance (from another company), so  was a  just a couple minutes - a no brainer. As it was the week before Christmas we wish we had just called an expert who could have told us how this small repair could be made, and either done it, or referred us to someone who could. After reporting our feeling that this short vacuum visit was not worth the $75, Kathy sent us estimates as follows: To furnish and install fire proof insulation to cover the draft problem - labor and material-$145.00.
To furnish and install a set of glass doors will cost between: $1,450.00 to $1,700.00. (custom) They could not determine who the manufacturer of the fireplace was, or how to contact them for ready made doors as our neighbors had done. All in all, pleasant people, but not a deal, and it did not resolve our issues or give us confidence in hiring them to follow up.

Arrived early on a day when there was snowstorm in Chicago. Cleaned fireplace thoroughly and looks very good after the cleaning. He took the fireplace all apart and cleaned every piece of it. It was tested after cleaning and provided information on how to maintain.

I absolutely adore them. Jason, the man who comes out is so professional. Cathy, who does all the booking and everything, is just so fabulous. I cannot say enough good things about them. They feel like family and they are the best. For us over the years, they have serviced our heating, air conditioning and humidification system. They have replaced a couple of air conditioning units on the roof of our building which is not an easy thing to do. They are just absolutely outstanding and responsive. They are incredible. I would have them back out in a heartbeat if needed.

They came out, did what they said they would do, and it was a very pleasant experience. They were able to schedule the appointment and stick to it. It was quick, easy, and the technician appeared to understand what needed to be done and went about his business performing the safety check and cleaning. He did a great job cleaning up and when he left, everything was just as it was when he got there.

The fireplace is fully functional again. They also inspected our furnace.
However, they didn't put the cover back on correctly and the furnace stopped working. We called them back and someone came over that night to get it going again, but it stopped the following day as well.
Since they looked at us like we were morons the night before, we weren't eager to call them back. The problem was solved by kicking the furnace--yes, I do that when frustrated--which made us realize they simply hadn't put the cover back on right.

The technician that was assigned to our home was a first-rate professional--perfectionist in fact.  he cleaned our gas fireplace completely and calibrated it such that is is working like a brand new fireplace.  I found the company being both responsive to our tight schedule and outstanding in every way in the delivery of this service.  I recommend Ofenloch Mechnical unequivocally.

I really should give them a 'C' or 'C+'. The furnace went out on Tuesday night, 12/7, the first night of a deep freeze with temps the next several days in single digits. We've owned this home 10 years, previous owner had hired Ofenloch, a family owned and operated company in the neighborhood to install and service furnace and because of that, we kept using them, rarely having a problem. When I called at 630 wed am, they answered and responded quickly. Very nice guys and phone support, and very reponsive. I liked that. But it took all day and multiple repairs and parts replacements for the kid and nephew of the owner to pinpoint the problem. $800 later, after previously being told it would 2-300, they had the furnace running again. That night, it went out again. they couldn't come back until the next afternoon (Thu) and worked into the night. Pronounced furnace dead at about 8pm. 3rd stright night with no heat. They recommended new furnace and said they'd credit the $800 toward a new one and installation. they recommendeed a couple of types but couldn't give me model names and numbers, only lines such as carrier, rheam, etc. and ballpark prices. that made it very difficult to try to compare prices with other installers and since I'd already sunk $800 into this, they had me over a barrel. I called and surfed around thu night and Fri morning and found out they should've been able to pinpoint the problem pretty quick with the old one (heat exchanger) before doing everything else they tried; that we might have been able to save the old one, but their ballpark prices on the new furnace were about right. Went with a new Rheam furnace and replaced AC unit to get rid of old, loud unefficient one and take full advantage of tax credit. They tried to back out of crediting the full $800 and said they would only credit the labor ($380 - 400) but I insisted they credit full amount as previously promised, since they couldn't figure out the problem for 2 days. Installation was OK, but they left a bit of a mess and extra pipes and fittings in my basement, and a gaping hole in basement wall to ac unit, where cold air gushed in (I filled it with rags). Furnace went out again next Monday night as they had done something wrong installing the exhaust or intake pipe. They tried to blame it on previous whoever installed old furnace and put pipes in wrong place, until they remembered grandpa or dad probably did that job. I will say, now that it's all done, this new furnace runs great, very quiet and house has never been as warm and as evenly warmed. They were pretty nice and very responsive, but overall quality not so good. I think I'm being very generous with giving them Ofenloch a 'B' when it was really a 'C' or 'C+' job.
