Would absolutely work with them again, though I hope I won't need to. Michael was extremely helpful in the entire process of doing asbestos testing on the tile in my new(-to-me) home. Easy to schedule and work with, and he really took the time to answer my questions and make sure I had all of the information I needed. Excellent service.

It was amazing! I needed this to happen fast as we were in the middle of redecorating. I called Kevin at 9:o0 and he said he could be there at 10:30. He showed up, did 8 samples from various materials and had my answer the next day by 2:30pm. Thankfully, I had no asbestos and my mind cleared and I was very happy. He told me the cost of simply getting a removal permit in Cook County and I was very thankful I spent the $500 for the service including 8 samples tested. Kevin charges $300 plus $25/sample. I had 8 areas that needed it. The best $500 I ever spent. I called other services that wanted $450 to come out plus the $25/sample. Kevin was fast and priced well.

We originally had them come out to verify the presence of mold. I guess in the industry to keep things without a conflict of interest you should not have the same people who verify the mold do the subsequent mold abatement.
We subsequently got 3 other estimates from other mold abatement companies to do the work. However we couldn't help but go back to Northern. We worked with Michael Casey each time. He was very responsive to the appointment as well as phone calls. We spent a lot of time on the phone and he was very understanding and patient with all of my questions. I felt very comfortable working with him and what he recommended to us.
His crew came through on the day and time as promised. The work took 3 days. We had been prepared to possible have parts of the drywall in the ceiling get taken out in order to access parts of the attic, however we did not need that. His crew who were amazing was able to crawl into the small spaces and still get all of the work done and mold abated. They took pictures of all of the areas before and after confirming their work.
I got 4 estimates and do my homework before going ahead with work. I will even pay for the estimates if needed to be comfortable. I personally think these were the guys in my geographic area who are the most professional and do the best work.

I called to see how quickly someone could come out and test my floor tiles for asbestos, so I can get rip carpet out and get new. "45 minutes" was the answer. Kevin was there in 45 minutes. I will get the test results tomorrow. Fingers crossed there will be no asbestos.

First rate from start to finish. We were able do schedule an estimate within days of my call. When the scope of the project changed they responded immediately with a revised quote. Mike explained the problems in detail and explained clearly and completely what NED would do to fix them. Mike scheduled the work on a weekend to accommodate our schedule. The crew arrived promptly, worked efficiently, and completed the work on time. They left their work areas neat and clean. I highly recommend them.

The job went very well. The workers arrived on time. They looked at the area that needed to be worked on and then explained how they were going to close off the area, tear out the ceiling with the vermiculite, remove the contaminated material from the work site and then clean the area while waiting for the inspector to come and test the air when they were finished. I was told the job would take 6 hours and it was completed in that time frame. The area was completely clean, both inside and out when they left.

I planned on putting in a wood floor, but unfortunately my floors weren't level. To level them, I had to go down to the concrete, and that meant removing the original asbestos tile from the 1960s. I called NED, and they came out promptly and gave me an estimate. By law, you have to wait two weeks for the procedure to begin. Before the date of the removal, they gave me a quick rundown of what I needed to do to prepare. They handled all of the prep, meaning they tape up your walls, which is great. They showed up on time, and the job went like clockwork. Everything was removed from my unit, and I was very happy. It was a pain that I had to have this done, but NED at least made it hurt a little less.

I found these guys to be polite, professional, and very tidy. I called several companies and received three bids that were pretty close in price but I choose NED because they demonstrated a higher level of professionalism and knowledge. I made the right choice because they did an excellent job for me. I would use them again and I highly recommend them to anyone in need of asbestos removal.

I wanted to replace the flooring in a condominium. When I removed the existing flooring we found black tile underneath from when the building had been built. I had both NED and another company test it for asbestos. The results were positive. Both companies provided estimates for the removal which were very similar. I went with NED because they were able to speed up the results and quickly file the necessary government papers. They were scheduled to do the work on Monday but that day ComEd notified the building that they were shutting off the electricity for a few hours that day, NED had no problem in not doing the work that day and returned on Tuesday to do the work. They were very professional and easy to work with. I would highly recommend them.

If you need asbestos or environmental services, NED should be your first call. Mike and his team were here promptly this morning, displayed utter professionalism and respect throughout and were complete much earlier than anticipated. they were thorough, tidy and very efficient. they were done in less than 6 hours and, completely to their credit, you would never know they were here. Even where they needed to cut into the ceiling for access, they did so in a more discrete and faster way than i would have imagined. Mike was easy to work with, from getting the proposal and scheduling to describing the process and working on site. I couldn't be more pleased with the way things went today.

Mike and his team were very professional, and accommodating to our very tight schedule for getting the work started and completed. Mike was very informative throughout the process, and explained every step as well as answered any questions we had. The day the work was performed was one of our hotter days this year and the attic temperature was 110 degrees. Because of the high heat the work expectedly took longer than estimated, but they stayed until 1:30a to finish the job in the time frame that was agreed upon. NED's team went way above and beyond to complete the job!

I became aware of possible asbestos insulation in my Aunt's three flat after she passed away earlier this year. I was extremely alarmed and looked to Angie's List to find a capable contractor that could remove this insulation. I chose Northern Environmental Development (NED) based on the reviews I read. I couldn't be more happy with their service. My initial contact with Mike C already reassured me that I had found the right company. Two other companies couldn't be reached for two days, but Mike took my call immediately and quickly scheduled a visit for an estimate at my convenience. I found their estimate to be more than fair and signed the contract within a day of receiving it. The work was scheduled to take place about two weeks after I signed, again at my convenience. Mike was very helpful answering my questions in the conversations that we had before the project began and I always felt as though my job was important to the company. Between the time that I signed the contract and the time that the work began, I found several items in the basement that were possibly made of asbestos. Mike agreed to deal with these items without raising the cost of the job. The work started right on time and the technicians worked diligently to complete the work in one day even though there was still a fair amount of personal belongings in the basement. The crew isolated the appropriate areas thoroughly and professionally; the technicians were also helpful and accommodating in my dealings with them. Even though the scope of the isolation required a bit more work than what our contract called for, Mike honored his original price. It's refreshing to find a contractor who is willing to perform a couple of small extra services that arise in the course of a job without demanding more money. While I am extremely satisfied with every aspect of the work performed, Mike C's professionalism and the professionalism of the technicians especially stand out. While I hope that I'm never in the position of having to use their services again, I would highly encourage others in a position similar to mine to use NED.

Overall, hiring NED was the best decision that I ever took. I would definitley hire them again and recommend them to my friends or other people.

Although they were late the day of the removal, NED worked very efficiently. They completely sealed off the basement from the main part of the house and installed a shower outside the basement door for the employees to use as they went in and out of the house. The floor tiles had already popped off the floor in different areas of the basement so they were easy to remove. The mastic was not too thick so that also came up very easily. The insulation and black sticky tape came off the pipes cleanly as well. Because everything came off so easily, they were done before the end of the business day, even with the late start. NED hired a separate company to complete the air sampling at the end of the job. We obtained three quotes for the tile/insulation/tape removal. NED was priced between the other two companies. We decided to go with NED because we felt most comfortable with Kevin and the time he spent with us during the consultation to fully explain the process. I was very impressed with how clean the basement floor (and pipes) were after they were done. About one month later, I noticed a small area of sticky tape on a pipe that had been hidden by the framing from our drop ceiling. Kevin had someone come out the following week to remove it.

First, I called a few companies from the Yellow Pages but several didn't call back or weren't interested in doing residential work. When I called NED I spoke with Michael, and he came out the following day. I received an estimate by email the same day. My husband received an estimate from another company from the Yellow Pages but they were much more expensive. I had many questions and concerns about asbestos removal and Michael carefully explained the process to me. I was pleased with the work they completed for me.
