Metropaint

Steve asked for the money in advance. We paid him. He never finished the job. He still owes us $2,000 back for work he did not perform.

The price was good for the amount of work done.  It took about 10 days after signing the contract before the work began, then took a month to complete, when I thought it should have been completed within two weeks, if two painters had been assigned to the job.  With the exception of a couple days, or partial days, the job was the responsibility of one painter.  He had some problems with detail, which resulted in a three page long punch (corrections) list, and the job not being done until 10 days after the first time it was reported finished.

Metropaint did a good job. The color scheme was different in most of the rooms, for which we provided a master plan of what colors to use and where in each room.  We provided the paint and they provided the labor and other materials.  Metropaint had also do some wall patching, after electrical work had made various holes in the walls, before the painting.  Most of the work was done in August, but then they needed to come back for two partial days in mid September, after the electrical work was done.

The work took about two weeks.  Most days there was one worker present, on a couple days two guys working.  There was one point where there was a miscommunication and too-dark a stain was applied to the wood in the living room.  After we complained, the erroneous stain was removed and the correct stain applied.  We are fully satisfied with the end product.

In December of 2010, Steven completed painting work at my home. For specific information regarding my perceptions of his previous work, the reader should refer to the report dated 01/09/11. Steven was aware that I had arranged to have my floors refinished after the holidays. He volunteered to comeback and touch up any areas that were messed up by the floor refinishers. He was a man of his word. I called to let him know the floor work was completed and a touch-up was needed. Within the week a member of his crew was at my home. The touch-up took several hours. After the touch-up I was only asked for a hand-shake. It is no surprise that this company earned the Angie?s List 2010 Super Service Reward.

It went well. Steve came out quickly for the estimate and was very knowledgeable. The workers did an amazing job. There were many layers of paint that needed to be taken off in order to get the window frames down to their natural wood. This took quite a bit of time and effort. They were also excellent at keeping the rooms clean and free of dust and debris throughout the project. This was very important to us because we have a young child and were dealing with lead paint. The final result is amazing.

Metropaint was recommended by a contractor who completed plaster work/restoration in our home. The referral source stated he feels comfortable recommending Steven of Metropaint, ?because he makes my work look good.? Because we were eager to have the work completed, we contracted with Metropaint for the painting of our living room, which included the crown molding and newly installed plaster ceiling, and the revarnishing of our front room door. Our original thought was to have everything in the living room painted as it was prior to the repairs. Upon viewing the job Steven suggested the picture rails be painted the same color as the crown molding for a ?stronger? presentation. This single recommendation turned out to be a notable one. Some friends/family who have been our home many times, have referenced the molding like it's their first time seeing it - ?Has that been there??, ?Did you guys do something with the cornice?? But I'm ahead of myself. He and his workman arrived on the day and at the time agreed upon. The matched the color of the living room walls to a tee. The workman did a great job on our antique front door that now has a really grand appearance. Attention was given to details and minor repairs/improvements were made that was not contracted. The work was completed in the time period agreed upon. As a result of our being satisfied with his work in our living room, we contracted with Metropaint for two additional jobs: The foyer area, stairway walls, banisters and rails, second floor walls, and home office area. Steven and his two assistants did just as an admirable job. Neat, clean, complete. I wish to make particular note of an aspect of the work done in the home office. I read on Angie's List that prior customers have referenced Steven's eye for color. During our discussion of the color for the office, Steven suggested a blue, gray, or grayish blue. He referenced the style of the window, the sunlight that would be coming in, etc. My wife and responded, ?What!!?? No way.? He stated he would drop off a color sample book and for us to review. He asked that we pick two or three colors which he would apply to the wall for us to decide. Over a couple of days my wife and I picked the color we originally had in mind and a color in the range of that recommended by Steven. Both were applied to the wall. We then decided to go with Steven's original recommendation. In a word?the room looks marvelous. It has been transformed. I have found myself eagerly showing my guests how it looks. It looks so good, I don't even want to hang up the pictures. We have already received estimates from Steven about other projects that will be completed in the near future. I will keep my friends of Angie's List up to date.

They gave us an excellent color consultation and selection. The crew were really great guys and nice to work with. They did a good job of being clean and tidy in our house. They were pretty thorough. They took forever. They were slow. It took far longer than we had expected and what they had said. They did good, quality work. We recommend the quality but the duration was more than twice as long as we expected. It is a huge Victorian house and literally every wall had to be painted. It was a huge job. They were middle of the road on price.

We were very lucky to have found Steven when we moved into our new condo. After meeting with several painters, Steven was the most knowledgeable about our requirements, and also gave us the most reasonable quote. He and his team did an impeccable job and completed everything within the one week timeline that they originally quoted. He came back to touch up the paint after we had completely moved into the home without any charge. He even came back months later, after we changed our mind about one of the colors we had chosen for our walls, to repaint for a fraction of what it would normally have cost. It has been over a year since we moved in and the paint still looks great!

What was great about working with him is that he has a great eye for color. We were really happy with the choices we made. We have continued to use him for painting services. They are really good about working in the home and leaving it the way it was when they got there. They cover up everything and there is not a mess to clean up.

I was especially impressed with his preparation of surfaces, including extensive repair of original double-hung windows with detailed divided panes in the upper sashes. He provided good suggestions for paint colors and provided numerous large color samples until we found the right colors for each room. He was sometimes difficult to contact, but responds better to email than to phone calls. Once he started the job, he stayed on task until it was done. He paid excellent attention to the details and cleaned the job site thoroughly. He also makes it a point to use low volatility paint. His price seemed very reasonable for the degree of preparation and the complexity of the job.
