Irpino Construction

We used Irpino Irpino Construction for two projects: 1) to renovate our basement after a flood. We had them repair the drywall, remove carpeting and install porcelain tile throughout. 2) to remodel our master bathroom, destroying everything but the toilet and installing a new shower, jacuzzi tub, vanities, heated floors, medicine cabinets, etc Dominic, Jaime and their team were fantastic. The team pays attention to detail - they brought challenges to our attention, offered solutions, and provided design ideas to elevate our bathroom and basement based on what they've seen in other projects in other homes. They connected us to high quality granite, tile, and glass shower door partners. Not only did they do fantastic work at a reasonable price, they were highly responsive to calls, texts, etc. The crew showed up on time every day. They worked efficiently and even did a great job cleaning up afterwards. I can't recommend Dominic and Jaime and their team highly enough. Great to work with, great quality, and affordable - what more could you want?

From start to finish, we could not have had a better experience with Irpino Construction. Beginning with the first email query, Dominic was quick to answer questions and offer his expertise. We had decided to completely renovate our kitchen and had no experience in this at all. Dominic guided us through every step of the way. He gave us some great ideas and resources. Gutting a kitchen could have been an overwhelming experience. Jamie (the project manager) made everything so much easier on us by working efficiently and cleaning up every day. The workmanship is what really stood out with this project! Jaime is a true craftsman. His attention to detail was outstanding. He and his crew were polite, punctual and hard working. Every day, we came home to see progress made. And every day, we were impressed with what we saw. Throughout the entire project, both Dominic and Jaime were very responsive to our many questions. We felt like they had our backs. When everything was finished, Dominic made sure to remind us that they were just a phone call away. We will definitely call Irpino Construction for our next project.

Our project with Dominic and Jaime went really well. They were responsive and communicative. They gave us exactly what we asked for and made helpful suggestions where appropriate. They kept our home very clean while working in it.

Dominic and his project manager, Jaime, did a fantastic job. We moved into a new loft condo just a couple of months ago and asked him to install a door for our master bedroom where there was none. Jaime supervised a small team to install drywall up to the ceiling around a pipe, and then install the door frame and door. They exceeded our expectations. Came in at the quoted price as far as the final invoice, but finished earlier than projected, which is always nice! (Note: The new wall and door was primed, but left unpainted because we plan to change the paint color and paint it ourselves.) We plan to call Irpino Construction for future projects, large and small.

Dominic Irpino and his crew at Irpino Construction did a simply fantastic job installing all new lighting in our condo. A few updates were needed when we moved in two months ago, and I made appointments to get quotes from five different companies. I was prepared with a spreadsheet to give to each contractor of the work we required. Most of the contractors took a copy of the spreadsheet, made a few notes, and returned a quote that was not quite accurate. We had a great first meeting with Dominic, wherein he spent a good chunk of time taking his own detailed notes. His quote was accurate to exactly what we had asked for, and he had suggestions for improving upon the ideas we had. The quoted price was better than we expected, which was especially great because Irpino Construction is headquartered just blocks from our condo. We were really glad to be able to keep our business local to our neighborhood. When we elected to move forward, Dominic stopped by with his project manager Jaime to ensure that we met him ahead of renovations starting and that Jaime had a chance to discuss the work with us. Jaime was a great project manager, and he and his crew expertly installed some tricky items for us. Jaime was also very patient with me picking out different can lights when the ones we thought would work turned out to not be manufactured in the temperature and lumens we wanted. His crew even snaked a 50’ cable up the wall, through the ceiling, and down to an outlet for us so we can mount our television without any cables showing. They did a clean and even job plastering, sanding, and priming the wall areas that needed opened up so that they are ready for us to repaint. The work took a total of four days to complete, and everyone was punctual and highly professional. Dominic was very communicative and checked in with us before, during, and after the project. The completed work was high quality and expertly completed. In total, Irpino Construction installed one chandelier, one flushmount, two ceiling fans, four can lights, new switch boxes, and snaked a 50’ cable. We look forward to doing business with Dominic again for future renovations!

My wife and I have had the pleasure of working with Dominic both in the Real Estate arm of their company, and just recently the Construction group on a bathroom remodel. I can not speak highly enough about either experience. As first time home buyers, Dominic made the process much less intimidating and much more enjoyable than we had anticipated. He was very knowledgeable about the market, negotiating, and the process. Before we even started looking at condo's, Dominic took the time to get to know us in a very earnest and sincere way. This came through as he made recommendations on which properties we would be happy with and which we would be better to avoid. We have been in our condo for just over a year and couldn't be happier. Just recently, we finished a complete gut rehab of our bathroom. We again went through Dominic and found the experience to be just as pleasurable as when we bought our home. He made good recommendations and stayed in contact throughout the process. We also were able to work closely with Jaime, who was our project manager for the job. He, and his crew, were very professional and did amazing work. There were a couple minor hiccups, which always happens in construction, and Jaime handled them with poise and went out of his way to make sure everything was ultimately completed to the highest level and to our satisfaction. My wife and I would recommend Dominic and the Irpino team without the slightest hesitation.

My wife and I moved into a new condo and wanted to do some renovations before formally settling in. Dominic discussed with us ways we could help our new place feel like home and improve the future value of the place. Dominic's team did an excellent job paying attention to every small detail and making sure that everything was done to our specifications. When a problem arose, he stood behind his work 100% and helped us reach a positive conclusion with a new kitchen we love. We plan to hire Dominic and his team for all future projects in Chicago and we always recommend him to our friends.

Dominic has an amazing company with high qualified project managers. He and his team are very professional and knowledgeable! He worked very well with me and my architect in making sure we were ahead of schedule for grand opening day! He joined and participated in our weekly calls to make sure all issues were addressed in a timely manner! He was also very candid and provided valuable feedback and suggestions when necessary! By doing so, it saved us time and money which we greatly appreciated!! I highly recommend Dominic for all major projects! He and his team definitely did an amazing job! We were very satisfied. We showed them a picture of what we wanted and they were able to recreate it. It took about 3 days. Two came out. It was like they were never there.

Irpino Construction's work stayed within budget and was completed on time per our contract, with outstanding wall and ceiling fixes, painting, electrical and hardware installation, and clean-up services.  Dominic's clear contract to us, his referral for the  flooring, their team's communication together and with outside specialists, and the communication with us throughout the process exceeded our expectations, since this was the first time we hired a full contractor.  In any project, miscommunication is normal, but a lot was done on both ends to ensure project details were on track and questions were clarified, which is what really matters to us.  In the end, we were able to move into our new condo with the paint edges perfect, baseboards and ceilings a crisp white, and each room reflected the the quality and precision of Irpino Construction, which was well worth the expense.  He even offered to come back to touch-up any paint after we move in and get settled, which is great service.  Our new condo is like something you would see out of a magazine!  
I highly recommend Dominic and team for any future renovation work and will definitely keep them in mind for more renovation projects in the future.

Irpino Construction completed 6 different projects in our home over the past 2 years; built out a closet,  total gut rehab of two bathrooms, partial remodel of a powder room, installed new floor, and built a wall which included French doors. 
Irpino was consistent with the following for each of the projects:
Timeliness/Professionalism:  Appointments to discuss projects were made timely and handled professionally.  Detailed proposals and budgets were provided timely. 
Cost:  Cost was consistent and although not the cheapest, it was fair.
Recommendation of Vendors: Irpino has worked with many local trusted vendors that gave a small discount.
Work Completion:  Once the work started they didn't stop until it was completed.  They were at our home every day, on time and ready to work.  When a portion of your home is being torn apart, you want it back together ASAP.  The last thing you want is for a few day delay and for the contractors to not show.  They came, did their job and left.  The bathrooms were done in about  10 days and our lives went back to normal.
Attention to Details:  Dominic scheduled periodic meeting to discuss progress and go over the work  My husband it a stickler for details and they always accommodated him.
Overall:  Irpino is easy to work with.  They like what they do and do it well.  The price is fair and the quality of work will leave you satisfied.

Our initial interaction with Irpino was very positive. Dominic is very professional. He provided us with a very detailed quote, made recommendations on some of the stuff we were thinking of doing (based on his experience in real estate) and was very pleasant to deal with. His pricing was comparable to the other quotes we received so we signed an agreement with them and agreed to start work in a couple of weeks.
A couple of days prior to the job, Dominic scheduled time to come by with the project manager and walk him through the details of the work we agreed to do to make sure we were all in agreement and everything was clear. He asked that the PM and I exchange contact information so we could be in touch directly as needed. At the time of the meeting, Dominic indicated that I needed to have the paint for the rooms in hand at the start of the work in just a few days. I wished I had known that in advance. I hadn't purchased paint as I didn't know what kind of paint was to be used for cabinets. I was traveling that week so it left me 1 night to find a paint store that was open, sold the brand the company uses and decide on colors for the cabinets and rooms. He also indicated in that meeting that I should already have the pocket doors for installation (eek!). I asked him for the dimensions and immediately started contacting Home Depot to see what was possible based on what was in stock. I just wish, in the weeks leading up to the job, he could have given me a heads up on exactly what they would need me to purchase to start the work and the specifics as I was a bit clueless and it made things quite stressful.
The team showed up on time for work, was very clean and courteous. However, I was caught off guard again when the team indicated I needed to purchase pocket door hardware. Again, I had no clue what that was. My husband I visited a couple of hardware stores and in the end, I think we ended up paying for the project manager to go purchase it for us to make sure we had the right stuff (we had to pay extra for his time to "shop"). 
The work was finished within the planned time. However, a couple of weeks later we noticed that the cabinets were starting to chip and the drywall seams on the new wall were already starting to buckle and show. Additionally, the pocket doors did not slide smoothly and often got stuck open. We contacted Dominic and to his credit he was very responsive and came back to walk through and review the concerns. While he felt some of the issues with the kitchen cabinets were not the result of workmanship but of the nature of the cabinets, he had a team come back and completely redo every cabinet. Additionally, the repaired the wall and pocket doors so they were full functional. The additional painting took about another week.
In the end we are happy with the work and appreciate that Dominic had his team come back and do it without trying to charge us for additional work. That being said, we are happy with the end product, but wish the work had been done with the same care the first time around. Finally, just a small note that it would have been nice to have known everything we needed to purchase for the job in advance of it starting. I am admittedly a bit oblivious on that stuff, but that is why we hired someone else to manage the job.

Im in love with it. I came out better then I expected.  Fantastic workers, they still follow up with us to see how everything is.  Amazing contractor.  Another contractor/friend wanted to know what wall got moved b/c it looks so different, they didn't move any walls, that's how different it looks.

Since moving into our home, Irpino Construction has guided us through two significant renovation projects.  In both instances,
I have been nothing but impressed with their professionalism, work ethic, and dedication to client satisfaction.
The most recent, in Winter 2015, was in response to a flood that  necessitated replacing all the drywall and baseboards in our
basement  and repainting.  We also elected to replace the tile floors with faux wood flooring, completely remodel a full bath, and add a kitchenette to the existing laundry room.  The other project, in Winter 2012, when we first moved into our home, included refinishing hardwood floors, removing a partition wall, remodeling a half bath, and repainting almost all the rooms in our new house.
For both projects, Irpino Construction: 
-          provided valuable advice regarding what renovations made sense from an investment perspective (even dissuading us from additional renovations when it would have been in Irpino Construction?s interest to increase the scope of work);
-          stayed on budget; 
-          was flexible and responsive to revised renovation plans; and
-          considered the project complete only when their client was satisfied.
In addition, in both instances, I was completely comfortable having Irpino Construction in my home, including giving them keys so they could come and go as needed.  The business owners, and all members of the team, are top-notch.
For these reasons, Irpino Construction will continue to be my first choice for my home renovation projects and the company I recommend to family and friends who are about to embark on their own.

The project went well from start to finish . Dominic Irpino was a consummate professional in helping guide us through this process. This was our first major home improvement project and Dominic, along with his crew, made us feel that we could trust them to do the quality work they did at the agreed upon price and schedule. It was also a pleasure working with the crew. Vinicio was especially responsive to my requests and was great directing his (1-2) other workers when he was offsite. 
As in any project of this nature, there were couple of minor glitches but all of these worked out fine with a couple of phone calls and finding the locations of certain electrical breakers.
Overall, we were pleased with the work performed by Irpino Construction Co. and will use them again when we do another home improvement project.
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

Updating the bathroom required removing an old bathtub and tile, installing a new whirlpool bathtub, new electrical wiring and new tile. The kitchen backsplash was removed and a new backsplash was installed. Dominic was a tremendous help, providing excellent guidance both on the best approach to our remodeling project and the choice of materials and colors used. Robert, the Project Manager, worked hard to ensure the project was completed on time and within our timeframe. Robert and his team were always punctual and very pleasant to have around. They cleaned so thoroughly at the end of each work day, you would never know any construction had taken place! Irpino Construction is a rare blend of a friendly, helpful staff coupled with skill and ability. We couldn't give them a higher recommendation!

We had a very mixed (somewhat negative) experience with Irpino Construction, whom we hired as a General Contractor to finish and remodel our basement.
While Dominic Irpino is a great sales person for whom customer service is a high priority ? checking in with us regularly during the project - we were very disssatisfied when it came down to the quality of the work and materials used, as well as the reliability of the Project Manager he assigned us and the quality of the subcontractors. Details below.
CONS:
Unreliable subcontractors

- Electrical: About five months after the project was finished, we learned from an outside electrician that there were MAJOR
problems with our electrical wiring. The board was mounted so that the new electrician had to rip it [and some of the attached drywall] out in order to make a simple repair; some wiring was coming out; none of the breakers had been labeled. We contacted Dominic and he brought someone to remedy these problems within two weeks, but we should not have needed to get these things repaired.
- Plumbing: About nine months after the project was finished, we learned from an outside plumber (who was repairing a baseboard heater that was installed by Irpino) that two valves that were used on our boiler system and on the baseboard heater were meant for under-sink and behind-toilet applications. We were told these parts were ?cheap shortcuts? and needed to be
replaced immediately. We paid out of pocket to cover the cost of this replacement (and it was not cheap).
Project management

- Our assigned Project Manager Andrew was NOT responsive to calls, voicemails or texts. It was nearly impossible to get in touch with him if he was late or a no-show for a pre-scheduled meeting time, or if we had a problem during the project. The only way we could get a hold of him, usually, was by also texting/calling/emailing
Cheap materials, low quality
- Cheap door materials: For the materials that we ourselves did not purchase, the Irpino crew sourced very low quality stuff. Three of the four bi-fold doors that they installed (two closets, one on the boiler room) have since popped out of their tracks and do not close properly. A door to the bathroom also does not close in its frame with even a slight change in the humidity/season of the basement. Do ASK about what kind of materials they will be using (real wood, plywood, fiberboard, etc.) when you are scoping your project.
-  Shoddy paint job: The paint job in the remodeled bathroom was poorly done. Many streaks on the walls, uneven paint, and drips on the baseboard heaters.
PROS:
- Dominic himself was very responsive to text and email, and checked in with us weekly to see that we were satisfied with the
progress of the project. This was reassuring during the project, but we now feel a little less good about these meetings considering the aftermath of the project.
- The finished basement product, on the surface, looked very beautiful when just finished. Dominic took pride in a good-looking project.
- Good recommendations for vendors of the raw materials and appliances (that we had to purchase on our own), including floor tiling and bathroom vanity/fixtures.

Our experience with Dominic could not have been any better.  
Began with a very fast and detailed estimate.  Along the way a few things were changed by us or at his suggestion which all turned out wonderful.
Attention to detail and quality was always top of mind.  
From the initial contact through completion Dominic was in touch and on the job for us. His assistance at every stage were invaluable and it converted our "old" house into a beautiful rehabbed vintage house with some very high end updates.
If I ever do any work again, I will contact Dominic.

Dominic, Jaime and team were great.  They were very responsive, on-time and did great work.  We couldn't be happier with the results of the bathroom.  They even came out a couple times after completion to make sure we were happy with everything.  I would absolutely recommend Irpino to anyone looking for work to be done.
