My husband and I picked up carpet samples in store and brought them home. In response to the $37 installation special promoted online and in store, I went to the Home Depot website to estimate the cost of the carpet purchase. I tried calling the store to discuss purchase/ schedule in home measurement. I was routed and re-routed over the phone for more than 30 minutes so I gave up that angle. The next day I went into the North Ave Home Depot store to schedule the carpet install measurement or move forward with my carpet purchase after deciding on a carpet and color. No one was working in the flooring department the morning I went to do this (9:15 AM week day arrival).
I waited for 20+ minutes in the department without assistance along with other customers and called the store on the phone while sitting in the store to try and get someone's attention. My call was routed and re-rerouted continuously while I sat there. Employees not qualified to assist in the department walked through the department and called for an MOD to come to the department. No one qualified bothered to show so I left.
In my car I tried calling the store again to talk to a manager. I finally did. He apologized and said multiple people in that department had called off today. He said due to my trouble he would have the $35 in home measurement done at no cost to me and someone would call to schedule shortly.
7 hours later I received a phone call from someone who went through every detail of my install to provide me a quote. This was after I told him exactly which carpet I wanted and the SF of the room. I asked him simply for a date/ time for a measurement in home and reminded him of the $37 install special and comp'd in-home measurement due to issues in store. All was new news to him. After a 20+ minute phone call and reminding him the in home measurement was supposed to be at no cost, he provided me with a carpet quote I didn't ask for that was over $200 than what I had estimated on the Home Depot website. He told he was supposed to provide an inflated quote over the phone but that the actual quote with measurement should be lower. (WHAT??????) We ended the call with him committing someone would call me on the day of my measurement between 7-9 AM to provide me with a time window. I received an email welcoming me to their install system with a contact number and email address.
Today, the day of appointment no one called as promised (am I surprised?). I proceeded to inquire with them about my time window. I called the store and was routed and re-routed through the lines again, no luck. I sent an email to the contact email from the "welcome" notice and I called the phone number in the welcome notice. O the call I was notified that I actually wasn't scheduled for an appointment today because the man who "scheduled" it never processed the fee payment (really?).
I ended the call then by thanking the person who answered the phone. I let her know I would never try to work with Home Depot on such a project again. Then I scheduled an appt next day with Empire Carpets for an in home measurement. I will post results with that provider later.
What horrible service. I will continue to go to HD for light bulbs and other stuff, but will never use them for special orders or projects.
1. Don't buy Home Depot brand products. Our plumber said that they are not well made.
2. Don't expect Home Depot to want to make their customer's happy and satisfied. They would rather sell faulty products and then leave it up to the customer to foot the bill.
3. Go to Ace Hardware--they actually help their customers and stand by their products.
