My mother began using this company in the 1980's, and I followed through because they have always provided expert service , sometimes going above and beyond because of our long relationship and their quality of service.

Worst customer service I have ever experienced in Chicago. Please use anyone one else for your heating and cooling needs. I would prefer a person in a covid comma over Bob. Because of their inaction in fixing the problem, (the AC unit is cooling the space but leaving the rooms very, very damp- and i am on the 6th floor) I am writing this review. The new unit is also staining the bricks on our building. Our old unit didn't do this. Our 1.5 year old unit on the 5th floor doesn't do this. And no other cooling unit in the building does this. - yet Bob doesn't care. Additionally, Bob's solutions were ridiculous. (I would tell you some of his ridicules ideas but will run out of space) He passes himself off as an expert on our building - so i was willing to pay a premium - only to have him yell at my partner and then hang up on her when she asked him to address our issues with the new - over priced heating cooling unit we bought. So if you want to pay more than you need to - then be ignored, patronized, yelled at and then hung up on - please use HeatCool and make sure you talk to Bob. Cause he is just the worst.

Went very good , they were very professional and explained all options before installation. They finished the work within a good time set. Will used them again .

My buliding engineer refered this company so I initially trusted them. While none of the work they did was good the first time they did come fix each of the problems as they happened.

1. First review: Very neat and organized. Quick to set up appointments. Very knowledgable about my building and the product itself.
Did the install and took away the old unit. Very fair price.

2. UPDATE:

Today, their repairman, John, came with another rep (who had installed the units). John said that's how the PTAC units were supposed to work. He took a temperature for the living room and said it was warm enough and that's why they didn't put out warmer air. I explained that's because our condo was heated with radiant heat and that these units were for AC and back up heat.

After less than five (5) minutes he refused to stay. I suggested he call his office or GE. He refused to call anyone and left.

I called GE, since the units are still under warranty, and they confirmed that was not how these newly installed units were supposed to work and set up an appointment with another vendor in just two days. They suggested they'd been installed incorrectly but that the problem was fixable.

I spoke to Bob, the owner of Heat Cool when he returned to the office that afternoon. He said he totally trusted John after 30 years employment.

I told Bob that if he had a family I hoped his family members weren't subjected to men like John. Scary, angry and very unprofessional. if you're desparate for help and they're the only ones who can come, use them. Otherwise be worried about their service, their professional ability and the way they treat customers.

It was an exceptionally hot summer and they were very responsive about scheduling.  Unfortunately when arrived (timely) we found that they were not able to install the units due to some carpentry work that had been done surrounding the existing units.  I had to get a carpenter out (which was no easy task for such a small job) and then had to reschedule with Heat Cool.  When I called to reschedule they wanted to schedule several days out due to their existing schedule.  When I told them that this poor tenant had gone through the excessive heat for almost two weeks they went out of their way to schedule for the next day.  The men were prompt and professional.

The heating company that inspects the furnaces at my house did not do wall heaters and I wanted the ones at my rental 2-flat inspected as they were more than 30 years old.  They recommended Heat-Cool, so I had them inspect the heaters in the two apartments.  One was fine but the other was leaking CO (which I had suspected which was part of the reason I wanted them checked out.)  They discovered the damage on a Friday.  Luckily, it was warm that weekend.  But they were able to come on Tuesday with a new unit and do the installation work.  There were about four people involved, of which two seemed to be apprentices.  But the work went quickly.  Installation involved putting in an electrical junction box and some wall repair as the new unit was older than the old one.  They also had to do some chimney repair for the vent.  It is working fine.

They came out to see if the problem was the thermostat or the central air unit. The thermostat was fine, but there was ice on the central air unit outside, so they shut off the AC and came back the next day. They added refrigerant and AC still didn't work. They came out again and replaced the unit outside & did some other things. The air conditioning still does not work (it will cool the house a little, but the temperature is usually about 87 degrees when the air conditioning is on). We have been calling for several days now to have someone come out again to determine exactly what needs to be done. We have talked to them a few times, but no one has come out yet and we still have not been given a date for a service call. My husband called again this morning, and we are still waiting for a call back. One employee was very helpful, but overall it has been about 3 weeks, and we still do not have functioning air conditioning.

We had 3 other companies come out, and all said that Heat Cool put in the wrong coil. So we had a differnt coil installed, and the air conditioning immediately worked just fine. We have called, e-mailed, and texted Heat Cool to get back the $1000 they charged us for the wrong coil. They refuse to respond. We have reported them to the Better Business Bureau and plan to contact the Attorney General of IL.

I live in a Chicago high rise which only accommomdates 220 volt air conditioner units. These are a rarity, and only two Chicago-area dealers carry them.  Heat Cool's price was about $545 each, installation included, and haul-away of the old units. The other dealer wanted about $750 each, with an additional $99 each for installation--I don't recall if that included haul-away of the old units as well. Based on price alone, it was a no-brainer for me as to which dealer to choose. But I was as pleased with Heat Cool's service as I was with its price.  When I called initially, the receptionist was very apologetic about not  being able to come out right away--which I didn't ask for and wasn't expecting--but then scheduled me for three days later.  Their technicians were punctual, professional and courteous. A very positive experience on all counts.

I was unable to contact the company I purchased my window unit from and who had come for the last 8 years in the spring to install the A/C and then come back in the fall to take the A/C out of the window and put it in my storage locker.  I believe they went out of business. I was worried I wouldn't be able to find another company who worked on window units.  I couldn't find anyone via internet searches and and a couple of vendors on Angie's list I contacted told me they only handled central air.  But both those vendors recommended Heat Cool.
I called Heat Cool on a Thursday and got an appointment for the following Tuesday. The installers arrived promptly (before 10am) and had the unit in my window in about 45 minutes.  It did cost me $50 more than I had been paying the other company.  But they did a good job.  I will be calling them in the fall when it's time to take the unit out.  And I sure hope they stay in business!

I found this company on Angies list. Called and arranged an inspection. A gentelman called and came on promised hour. Inspected the area, both inside the basement and outside the house. Explained , in detail

, that they will replace not-functioning thru the wall furnace with a new Empire furnace of same capacity as the old one. Gave an estimate. I called few days later and accepted.
They came on time, removed the old furnace, installed a new one in the same place.
Installed a new termostat and a new thru-the-wall exhausr pipe. Cleaned the area.

PERFECT!
THEY RETURNED MY CALL AND CAME OUT IMMEDIATELY.THIS WAS DURING OUT LATEST HOT SPELL SO I REALLY APPRECIATED THAT.
THEY CHECKED MY UNIT AND IT WAS NOT ABLE TO BE REPAIRED, BUT I ALSO ASKED THEM WHEN I CALLED, IF THEY WOULD BRING A NEW UNIT WITH THEM OF THE SAME TYPE.
THE UNIT WAS INSTALLED QUICKLY, WHILE RESPECTING MY HOME, AND BOTH SERVICEMEN WERE BOTH COURTEOUS AND VERY PROFESSIONAL.
THE ENTIRE VISIT WAS PAINLESS, AND I WAS BACK TO TENDING TO OTHER BUSINESS IN NO TIME.
I HAVE USED THEM IN THE PAST SEVERAL TIMES, AND HAVE 4 OTHER UNITS BESIDE THE ONE I REPLACED SO THEY WILL GET MY BUSINESS IN THE FUTURE.
DO NOT HESTITATE. THIS IS A TERRIFIC COMPANY.

After smelling a gas leak in our house a Saturday, we called Peoples Gas. The technician was not able to repair it. He shut off the gas to the house and told us that it could not be restored until the leak was repaired and a pressure test was performed. He explained that a certified contractor will always perform a pressure test. We called HeatCool, left a message at about 1 p.m. Someone called back, told us the rate would be $170/hour, and scheduled a visit, for a window of 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The technician arrived at 5:45 p.m. He called almost an hour ahead of time to let us know he was running late. Although we had told the dispatcher earlier that we had a gas leak, the technician came prepared to work on the boiler. During the repair, he had to drive to his shop twice to get parts. (Fortunately we selected a nearby contractor with the help of "Distance" in Angie's List.) The technician also explained that although he was certified he could not perform a pressure test and furthermore that it was not necessary. At the end of the repair, the technician explained that the service call alone is $177 and any work begins at an additional $177. He also explained that HeatCool does not have a discount for first-time Angie's List customers. We expressed our dismay over the lack of pressure testing, the service charge and lack of Angie's discount, so perhaps that why he gave us a $50 break. Two senior technicians returned to turn on the gas after thorough testing of the repair despite a pressure test not having been done. We had called two other contractors that morning who did not return our calls. On the other hand, HeatCool helped us out, and the technician was sympathetic. But the pain of a doing weekend repairs can be eased by clear explanation of charges and following industry standards for repairs.

Heatcool came out promptly to look at the gas heater we had in our kitchen's eat-in area. I was bummed to have to pay $109 dollars to have someone just look at the unit but it was really our only option at the time. It turned out the heater was really designed for a garage or barn, not for living space, and the cost to replace it was more than we could afford. Overall, the Heatcool representative was courteous and responsive, and we were much more informed as a result of their visit. So, in the end it was money well spent.

Everything was perfect. They were the lowest of several estimates, began work when they said they would, finished early. They were careful of the home and took precautions to avoid damage to floors and walls. They adapted quickly and effectively to a couple of unforeseen circumstances and stayed within the budget estimate. They were friendly, responsive, and highly professional. Working with HeatCool was the first time--out of several over some 30 years--that I actually enjoyed working with an HVAC firm.

Having the air conditioners installed cost me $1500 and the preventative maintenance cost me $200. When they installed the units, they seemed to know what they were doing as they had to etch around the window to make the a/c window unit fit. When they came to do preventative maintenance, they didn't seem to know what they were doing. They just sprayed something in the a/c unit and wouldn't answer any questions. After this maintenance, one a/c quit working and the other one is making funny noises as if it is going to die. Now it is broken and I am waiting for the service man. They haven't returned any phone calls, come to check it out or fix it. I would not recommend this company.
