We specialize in interior & exterior painting, unique mineral brick staining/restoration, kitchen and bath remodeling, home additions, and new construction. We have been in business for over 30 years; since 1983. We, at Harmonious Decorating & Remodeling, are dedicated to the customers' complete satisfaction with every job we perform. Overall the project went well. It was done in a timely fashion. The contractor from Ron's firm was experienced and fair. The job was done in a good quality. However, one recommendation is to make sure to write down scope of work thoroughly so you will not get into argument later. Ron is a nice guy overall but tends to forgets some details after a few days. You should not rely on verbal agreement whatsoever.

The person they sent Steve and his accomplices slapped paint on my once beautiful floor. He was more concerned with conniving more money from me with lies and fear mongering. He seemed to be on something. When he left so did one of my designer bags. I had to put a stop payment on the check and hire someone else to finish the job. I would just like to say that I went thru Angie's List with confidence that the job would be done professionally and timely. I am disappointed that that company is on your list. I was told that Steve was the company's Southside man. What, he's sent to rip off black people and the elderly? My rating beyond, below, awful, horrible, despicable,

"This client has made up so many of her comments. My painter said she was on something. She made him do extra work and she didn’t want to pay him for it. The Job was for $1,400.00 not $1,900.00 as she claims. She paid me in full and then she stopped the check saying that the Job was not finish, when I volunteered to come and view the Job to finish it, she said no that she hired someone else! That was a lie. I asked her why did you pay us in full if we weren’t finished she just said she wasn’t Feeling well. I am in the process of having my Lawyer send a letter for immediately payment or we will put a mechanical Lien on her property! I always try to make my Customers happy and I will go back and touch up anything that was contracted for! This Lady would rather hold on to the balance and get most of the work for free by making up stories to have excuses not to pay as she should of? It was a job well done as I saw the pictures he took! Harmonious Remodeling far exceeded my expectations. The thing I appreciated most was the clear communication. Whenever anything unexpected came up, they let me know immediately, presented me with options, and let me choose. I'm reasonably handy, and all of the unexpected issues were completely legitimate. I've had contractors in the past where I felt like they were constantly trying to take me for a ride, making up issues to drive up the price. Harmonious did not do this. They've earned my trust. The quality of the work was excellent. It looks phenomenal. Next time I have a project, they're going to be my first and only call.

Other than the punctuality on two of the four days, the work was completed in a professional manner. The carpenter was extremely professional and his work was impeccable, often providing recommendations and helpful input. Hector was great to work with and very professional. He explained the process and always asked if we had a preference on where to start for the day. I would highly recommend their services. (picture is only walls and baseboard)

The end product we are happy and the work that was done by Octavio Marin was impeccable. I would ask for him by name. The owner on the other hand was extremely unreasonable and only co-operated under threat of legal action or withhold of payment. We witnessed the owner's head foreman and Octavio leave the company after the project from what were told were the direct actions of the owner of Harmonious. In short be aware of the laws protecting you and make sure you stand up for your rights if things go wrong since the company will try to push those costs onto you.

Ron helped us through the process from beginning to end, From choosing the right flooring and paint to getting it all installed. Ron seems to have the right person for whatever job you need done and was able to get them on site rather quickly. Ron and his crew were easy to work with even with a few changes or additions requested midway through the job. Two thumbs up!

These guys are awesome! I would highly recommend them, and when I need painting done again I will go straight to them. Great work, great price, and great people! They painted the interior and exterior of my house, and it looks the best it has ever looked! Very professional as well. If you need painting done go with them. You won’t be disappointed. So glad I found them on Angie’s list.

Within a couple of days they repaired the cause of the leak, drywalled the effected area, and repainted the entire room. It looks very good.

My front step and sidewalk were badly in need of repair from cracking. The rear sidewalk had salt damage & was nearly loose gravel. The repair was on time, quick, efficient, & tidy. The cost was very reasonable. The workers even installed a ramp so that I could enter the house without disturbing the concrete. The clean up was very thorough. I would definitely use Harmonious Decorating again!

My roof was in very bad shape and needed to be stripped bare and reinstalled. The roofers were timely, very professional, and were able to complete the entire project in a very short time period before the next major storm. The area around my house was totally cleaned up the same day---it was much more clean than any other work site I have ever seen! I was very, very happy with how this project turned out.

We first met Ron ten years ago when he was sub-contracted to paint the exterior and interior of our then new house. He used the best quality materials and explained everything he planned to do. He made sure he understood our wishes, and was quick to react to any mishaps. For example, some wood stain splashed on a cookbook I had left out when our kitchen was being redone, and even though the book had just a few drips on it, he offered to buy me a new one, no questions asked. Ron is always honest and is a nice guy—which is a difficult combination to find in a contractor! There are ALWAYS issues with big jobs on one’s home—weather delays, discoveries when opening walls, so many unforeseen issues—and Ron and his crew help to work through the issues, address them, and don’t try to pull any wool over an owner’s eyes. We hired Ron’s company Harmonious Decorating and Remodeling to redo our front porch a few years ago, and Ron and his crew did a fantastic job, giving us great advice and sharing their expert opinion about the pros and cons of specific design choices that we wanted to make. We most recently hired Harmonious to build a major addition to our home, and once again Ron and his crew showed incredible workmanship, flexibility, and integrity. After the subfloor had been laid, I came home to find Victor, one of the crew, redoing a section of it: Victor explained that he thought the new floor was squeaky, and he needed to fix it (this was at no additional cost to us, and neither I nor my wife had noticed anything). Harmonious worked on our home as if it was their own. Ron’s crew—from Cornel, the site supervisor, to the work crew (in particular Victor and Raul who are both true artist craftsmen!) People who do not know Ron or Harmonious consistently offered high praise for the work they saw, from the village inspectors (who are NOT easy to please!) to the HVAC company to the man who delivered materials. In fact, our neighbors were so impressed they hired Harmonious for their own major house project. We highly recommend Harmonious to anyone looking for a crack crew and honest businessmen who take pride in their work and want the owner to be a happy customer.

The only problem I had was with the floor. I stripped the old tile myself as best I could but there was still some residue. He glued the tiles over the little lumps and bumps and now you can see it in the tile work. Everything else was great.

"The Client removed all the tile to save money and told us the floor was ready to go. It was an old basement floor and some of these lumps he is referring to is just imperfections in the cement work, and old glue that was not removed correctly, what needed to be done was to rent a concrete sanding machine to go over the entire floor to smooth everything out, which would cost more for time and labor, But he had a budget and couldn't afford that procedure. So we did the best we could under the circumstances. He Loved the work when we finished the job and did a walk through and no mention of these bumps were ever mentioned to us at that time, It was only when I saw this review that I first heard of his complaint about the floor. I wish that he would of mentioned it on the walk through, we could of addressed the problem right away as we always do to make sure our Clients are perfectly happy & satisfied with the finished results? That's what it is all about, everyone walking away happy and content."

The lead GC for Harmonious Decorating & Remodeling, Cornell was outstanding! Great communicator from start to finish. His history of doing these types of projects and his ability to explain how the project would proceed from start to finish and the associated cost with doing things the right way from the beginning,made us very confident that we were hiring one of the best in Chicago. The labor charge quoted was exactly what the original quote said and i think very fair considering all the extra work we ran into and additional items we wanted them to add to the project. The labor price never increased except for a few items we added to the remodel project mid stream. They saved us a lot of headaches now and down the road. becuase we had someone who knows what they are doing. His knowledge of materials and products his guidance on what needed to be removed and replaced, and his timing of keeping different workers schedule was seamless and if if wasn't for the flooring being on back order, we would have finished ahead of the agreed upon completion date. Great people, very respectful of our other tenants and keep the place as clean as possible through the construction of our beautiful new unit. We would highly recommend Harmonious to all our connections and will be using them again in the near future.

Do yourself a favor, and move on from this so-called Remodel Company. They can't even do a job correctly. My Master Shower has been leaking for several months now, and has gotten to the point it is leaking several floors below mine. (Basically Unusable) They came and inspected the leak, and confirmed it was of their doing. And they have yet to come fix it, and fail to provide to a promise to fix, or even attempt to. Just read the other reviews (Check Yelp, and BBB Sites), its obvious these guys don't know what they are ****, and claim to be able to do remodels. These guys don't care about their business, why would they care about your remodel? All they want is the cash, and they will do anything possible to get it. Even stop work, as the other reviewers have stated. I mean check their rating on BBB, they already have multiple complaints, and are about to have another.

"We did two bathrooms that the owner was very happy with the final results,. The one bathroom started to leak from the shower base. We explained to this Client that we will be happy to come back as soon as we get the extra money to do the necessary repairs needed, as we have to take the tile floor in the shower, remove the cement base, shower glass doors, replace the membrane under the concrete, then reinstall new cement, drain, tile, grout, caulk and reinstall glassdoor etc. All this will take time and money. We are getting almost ready to get this done. He know this!"

I hired Harmonious Decorating & Remodeling Inc. to do general remodeling : install and grout tiles, casings, baseboards, new wood thresholds - to be stained to match the floor, install granite counter tops. They got paid on time, cashed in the checks right away. The next day I went to my unit to clean it. When I removed all the plastic from the floor I realized they only installed 3 new thresholds and piece milled the 4th threshold and did not stain any of them . In the kitchen they also left a huge gap between the counter top and the cabinet and they did not replace the damaged trim on the kitchen counter. When I called them and asked them to finish it up I was told I needed to pay additional $200 to finish the threshold and $200 to fix the panel by the cabinet - total of $400 additional costs even though they were supposed to do it originally , according to the contract between us. I called them 4 times to ask them to please complete the job. Every time I heard I had to pay extra. I even warned them I was about to leave them a negative review here - still nothing. I would never hire them again, they have no professional pride , they do not stand behind their work....

"This Client was made aware of these imperfects before we did them and okayed them when we did the final walk through upon completion! I said he will take care of it, why he changed his mind is unknown to us? We explained to him that we can do it, but that we will have to charge him, especially since he said it was no big deal, he will take care of it! We did tell him $400 at 1st then i told him we can do it for $250 total as we have to pay our workers and it is considered an extra! I told him i would get back to him the following week to do it, which he agreed, then we saw this review, i guest he couldnt wait and wanted it done for free!?"

For the most part the service was excellent. They were extremely careful with our things and very polite. Victor, who was sort of in charge of the daily work, did a beautiful job, they all did really. The painting looks good and they installed a beautiful floor. Victor made sure that our possessions were really well handled. He also made some great suggestions for color usage. The problem lies with a couple of small issues. There were switches that were supposed to be dimmer switches, and the thermostat they installed did work. It took them two months to come back out to install a new thermostat but it still didn't work. We never did get the dimmer switches.

***** Excellent, five stars. The cost was the lowest of three bids, the workmanship the best in every way, the workmen collegial, the communication and scheduling topnotch. We are pleased that we hired HD&R and will contact the company again for future projects in our home. They took a personal interest in our requests and were flexible and accommodating.
