Glass Block Factory

From quotation to the job being finished the process was seamless. I was offered different options and explanations between the different options. Job was done on time and the quality of the work was excellent. I would definitely recommend and use them in the future.

Our architect recommended working directly with Glass Block Factory. I had a good idea of what we wanted so after looking at their website, sent an email to their website. The next day I had a phone call with Mike (not sure if I called or he called back). He answered my questions and send a estimate which I agreed to and followed up with a check for payment in full. The assembly was ready for pickup in the agreed timetable. The location is a factory west of Chicago, so after getting the paperwork finalized in the office, you go around back to load the item. Nothing fancy but effective. The product was as advertised and easily installed. The price was right, quality excellent and I’d definitely recommend and use them again if the need ever arose again.

They were referred to me by my realtor, but it did not go well. I had a hard time reaching them, and when I did speak with them they didn't return my calls. When they finally did come out for the work, they didn't have the correct equipment so they had to reschedule for another day. Additionally, during the course of the work they found two more glass blocks that needed replaced and that doubled the price, even though there were 6 they were already working on. When they finished the work, I found a block that they completely forgot about, but they refused to come out and fix it at their own cost, and finally, when all was said and done, there was a price dispute that the owner refused to investigate and rectify. I will not use them again, and neither will my realtor recommend them anymore.

They came out and fitted the windows. They did a very nice job. We found out that one window was not the same size as the other ones. We didn’t realize that, but they compensated for that. They came out and measured the windows. They took the measurements back to their place, made the windows, and came out and put them in.

They came out, measured, then ordered the blocks. When they came back to install it turned out the measurements had been wrong and they had to delay installation until they had the right size blocks. They were back within a couple of days and did a great job with the installation.

It went as planned they came out on a friday about 9AM they worked all day until all the windows were installed. The only thing i will say is if you are having this work done be aware now that they are enforcing the lead abaitement laws, which drove our contractor nuts because he now has to get certification in lead removal, or find a contractor to do this costing him even more money.

Dorothy was very responsive scheduling the estimate; estimator was on-time and professional; Chris & his partner showed up on-time to perform work; they dealt with two wrinkles--one window lacked a dryer vent and two of the three window sills were badly degraded; they solved the former withour hassle and FIXED the latter to make sure the job was done right (and did so without extra charges); all told, a very pleasant and satisfying experience with GBF

Our contractor picked up the two pieces of glass block that the Factory had prepared for us. When they returned to our home with the pieces, they put them on the front lawn while they prepared the space for installation. When the contractors then lifted the first glass block piece off the lawn, it immediately crumbled into many pieces. This revealed that the steel reinforcements that the Factory recommended be included between the blacks(that we had paid for and had requested)had not been installed. There were no reinforcements between the blocks. The contractor gathered up the pieces and took them back to the Factory to show that the quality of the work was poor and that the reinforcements had not been put in. In trying to discuss the matter with the owner, he claimed that we never had requested the reinforcements and that it was our fault that the product had disintegrated. He also refused to rebuild the pieces that had crumbled. After a heated discussion, he said that they would rebuild them, but he would not give us a time line for completion, which created additional problems because our contractor was scheduled for another job. After much arguing with the Factory owner, eventually our contractor took the individual pieces back to our house and cemented them into the space one by one.

They had very good prices that were very fair, I thought. They did a really really good job, they were excellent. They were very prompt and very neat. They were very good. Even in one case where one window had a drier vent on the wrong side they talked to us about it rather than just putting it in.

They came, measured and came back to complete the job. They showed up on time and cleaned up their mess afterward; I would recommend them.

A very pleasant experience: office staff and workers very professional and very accommodating; very quick turn around time from order to installation; work was done in a matter of a few hours, with excellent workmanship and workers cleaned up after themselves; final product looks great and final cost was as estimated.

There was a communication problem with the workers. It was very hard to talk to them and I couldn't get a hold of the boss at the time.

Very good. Their workmanship was excellent. There was a bit of a communication issue with the installer, John, because the language barrier came off as a bit gruff, but that was resolved quickly. Everything was clean and neat and installed professionally, and the work looks great.

Came to house to measure for estimate. Total was $300 less than other company. Glass Block was clear in communication. Windows were installed quickly, workers fast and clean.

The work was done in a timely fashion. It solved our problems.

It started off shaky because they called to reschedule the job but when the job was done, I was very pleased with the quality of work they had done. They did a better than adequate job for me.

After confusion about the license and building permit, resulting in a rescheduling of the installation date, the actual job went well.

I called and was advised that they could give me an estimate of the cost if I could provide measurements. I called back and provided the measurements and was given an estimate of the cost, they also sent someone out that same day for more precise measurements. They called back two days later to set up installation. The guys that came out for the installation were very professional and did an excellent job. They cleaned up the work area and removed the debris from the premises. I would definitely recommend them and hire them again if needed.

The windows were measured right away. I got the work done in early spring 2007. 3 times, the appointment had to be rescheduled. The first 2 times, they called and stated that because the weather was too cold, the cement wouldn't dry. The 3rd time, they just never showed up. I finally called them 2 hours after the time they were supposed to arrive and they told me, that they were delayed on another job. Finally, on the 4th try they arrived, it was colder than on one of the previous days, they canceled due to the weather. They stated that they had a "new" type of concrete. ODD. When they tried to put the windows in, they didn't fit (they had mismeasured), so they ripped the old frame out of one of the windows. Then realizing they didn't want to do this for all four, they called the company and had new widows made. They came back the next day and put other 3 windows in. I am left with 1 window, which is larger than the other 3. Just very disappointing and full of excuses.

They did a very nice job installing the windows. The window vents seem to be of a good quality. The dryer vent seems a bit flimsy. Overall this was a good experience and a satisfactory outcome. I would recommend the company to others. They did run late the day of the install due to engine trouble, but the office was very apologetic and our schedule was flexible.

The work was accomplished on time, on budget, with excellent quality. They also did a great job cleaning up after themselves. It really improved the look of our building.

This company is great. They came out and measured and in 3 days were out to install and left in 45 mintues. I inspeceted the work with them and I had no problems. Would use them again.

Communication was a little difficult with both scheduling and the person doing the work. Quality of work was good and it was the least expensive quote I got.

This may have been the most painless remodeling project I have ever undertaken. I requested a estimate via email and received one within the day. We scheduled a day when someone could come out and measure and the measurements were taken at that time. A time was scheduled for the windows to be replaced and the windows were replaced at that time. The workmen worked quickly and did a very nice job. Affterwards, they cleaned up both inside and out. I was very happy with the results!
