Our sidewalk was pitched toward the house and we started to see some seepage in the basement during heavy rainfall. Garrett and his team did an excellent job pitching the concrete away from the house and also patched up a 4ft crack on the side of the house. My neighbor informed me that they took their time and made sure the work was done right. They asked for his contact and will call him when they are ready to replace their front steps. Garrett also leveled a portion of the garage floor and filled up a large crack with epoxy. Garrett answered all questions I had and made some recommendations. After a couple of months I started to see a gap between the house and the newly poured concrete. Garrett reassured me that this is normal due to shrinkage and came back to caulk it. I cannot say enough how wonderful Garrett is. I recommended him to my mother-in-law to replace the walkway in front of the front steps which sunk in and caused the first step to be higher than normal. Again he did a great job. I wish there were more contractors like him.
He and his employees worked very hard. Very professional. Mr. Carlson advised me on certain things re: the
construction of the patio, and I took his advise and was very happy with the results.
The concrete was badly broken due to a caved in catch basin. (Repairs to this problem had been done already. The old concrete had been removed to affect the plumbing repairs and replaced with gravel). Garrett and his crew laid new concrete. The finished product was better that the old floor ever was. Very nice people, very good work.
He moved our downspouts to divert water from the house, and even ran our underground pipes a further into the yard to pop-up drains that release the water into the garden.
His workers were efficient and kept the area clean.
Great service!
I liked him immediately because he obviously knows concrete and the ideas he was offering were good. He wasn't my first estimate. I liked Garrett so much that at the end of the estimate I said (not the type of thing I would usually say to a contractor) and quot;I like you. You obviously know concrete. If you come through with a competitive estimate I can say right now that you have the joband quot;. Then I stopped getting more estimates. His estimate did come through competitive with other estimates, so it was a done deal.
His helpful attitude continued throughout the job. There was quite a few challenges with the project. Where to direct the water flow. There was a downspout that he replaced an extension over the sidewalk with a much more convenient PCV pipe under the sidewalk. There was a gate involved which couldn't be reset to the newer raised concrete because the fence had shifted from the root of a big bush. I came up with the idea of setting a new standalone gate and I purchased the parts myself at Menards, and Garrett set the new posts. This saved my needing to also hire a fence contractor. There was two window wells that needed to be rebuilt which we worked through the issues together.
I wanted to fill in the area under a stoop (that had a history of possums and once a skunk getting into) with bricks and concrete patch while the sidewalk was broken out. He made a point of opening the area at the start of the job and keeping it open for me, giving me time to do my work.
We kept in touch via email throughout the project about all these issues as they emerged and were solved, as well as weather and timing for the final concrete pour.
Garrett and his two helpers were all friendly and pleasant throughout the job. At the end they left the job site well cleaned up.
His helpfulness extended even to that I was asking Garrett where I could purchase bulk top soil for some new landscaping to fill in the new patio. He directed me to a place for landscapers and contractors I wouldn't have otherwise known about. Plus then the next day with the final cleanup he brought in some top soil and did the most essential fill in at the edges of the patio himself, which I didn't expect at all.
More then anything, he built a beautiful new patio and walkways. Everything is pitched in the right direction. As I say above the downspout problem fixed. Finally I have a new gate that fits properly after years of struggling with the old gate. I can't find a single flaw in the final work.
