FRANCIS HUNT

Francis was a pleasure to work with (well, I shouldn't say work with since he did all the work!). He tuned up my 2 pianos beautifully and snugged up a loose key. Concerning an array of smaller issues, he had many great ideas at the ready from years of experience. I will definitely have him back.

Francis Hunt has been tuning our upright piano for as long as we can remember.  Trustworthy, skilled and reliable.  While I don't remember what we paid last year, his prices are always reasonable.  Now that our piano players are out of the house, Francis calls every year or two to see if we need service.  We strongly recommend Francis Hunt!

He arrived on time and got to work immediately. During the process he had the piano in a dozen different pieces all over the living room floor and kitchen counter. He explained what he was doing, that the 1st visit would be a "pitch tune" and that he would need to return in a few weeks to complete the final tuning because the strings wouldn't hold all the tension for long if he tried to bring it completely into tune all at once. I don't know anything about pianos but as an engineer I was impressed at his mechanical ability with all of the pieces. He had tools for everything and a plethora of parts, and didn't charge us any extra even though he fixed multiple things on the piano, working dilligently for over 2 hours. He really seems more of a master craftsman than merely a piano tuner. My family enjoyed having Mr. Hunt in our home - he's a colorful gentleman. A month later Mr. Hunt returned for the second (and final) tuning and the piano sounds great. Once again he arrived on time.

My experiences with Francis have been very thorough. He keeps me on a schedule and I guess he's going to call when its time to re-do it so I don't have to remember. He was referred by one of our musical friends and they've been very happy with him for years. He has been doing this type of work for a long time and he used to be a professional musician.

HE WAS UNBELIEVABLE AND CHEAP. He cleaned up everything and the piano sounds great.

When I asked Francis for a second opinion on my piano, I was upfront in telling him what the other piano tuner had told me. Francis did not find the sounding board to be cracked. He tuned it better than the other tuner's lousy job, but even after the second tuning (needed because it had not been tuned in a few years), the piano slipped out of tune in a couple of weeks. That's why the "gook and tap" and humidifier were needed. Francis is a nice, friendly guy, perhaps unusual in wearing his graying hair long in a ponytail. He doesn't mind working on older or cheaper pianos, saying that he likes variety in his work and would be bored if all his work was on the expensive impeccably maintained pianos used for concerts. He was never pushy about his recommendations. I like that he explains what needs to be done and why, such as when at the last tuning he said that the felt the hammers should be filed down. I don't worry that he's selling me an unnecessary service.
