E-Z TREE RECYCLING
About us
E-Z Tree Recycling was founded by Mike Fowler in 1992, to make the world a (little bit) better place, as a (small) part of the green movement. We take in trees from landscapers and tree services for a small dumping fee, and with a major investment in chipping, grinding, and screening equipment turn it into salable products. We sell mulch in bulk to the public and businesses, and offer dump truck delivery. Our prices are low, as you are buying direct from the producer, and not a middleman. If you need mulch in quantity, or screened topsoil, we are the ones to call. Products include Shredded Hardwood Mulch, natural brown, or double shredded and colorized Premium Dark Brown, or Rustic Red Mulch. We also have Playground Woodchip Mulch, especially for playgrounds. We have a topsoil compost blend, which is a good all around planting mix, for gardens or lawns.

"I think the above review is fair. However, let me confess that in 2010 due to a shortage of trees for recycling, we lowered our standards and took in pallets for grinding into mulch. Even that should have been ok, but the pallets from one company had aluminum and stainless steel fasteners that were not removed by our magnetic separator. Needless to say we learned a lesson the hard way, and have never again used that material in our mulch. We've been in business since 1992 and our mulch is as clean as we can possibly make it, and is completely organic, made from local trees. No construction or demolition wood is allowed. (with the above mentioned exception of some production in 2010.) Thanks for your consideration."
UPDATE:
I have used E-Z tree for compost, mulch, woodchips and firewood regularly over the past several years. I like that they are very local to my project sites, easy to deal with, and often willing to give non-profits a slight discount. I try to support hyper-local businesses whenever possible. Their worksite is a fascinating place to take kids who are into big machines, or to salvage cool cuts of wood for DIY crafting, tables and sculpture.
BUT
I had heard from others that E-Z's compost was not tested for nutrient content and tended to be nitrogen poor due to disproportionately large amounts of tree waste (as opposed to manure and leaf waste). Since I usually mixed my compost with other soil and mushroom compost, this never became a problem for me. But last year I got two trucks of compost/soil mix for a new garden site -- and regretted it all summer. The mix was so nitrogen poor that despite multiple additions of nitrogen rich amendments, -nothing- would grow. I do mean -nothing-. We tested for all other issues, and it all came down to the nitrogen problem. My clients were extremely unhappy, and I was embarrassed at not delivering on my contract. Not only did I spend additional money on amendments that didn't solve the problem, but now I will be replacing the bad compost with a better - and tested - product. I'll still go to E-Z for wood, chips and mulch, but my compost will come from elsewhere from now on.
