Kevin was the person who did the work. Very punctual and polite and was happy to show me how the locks were constructed since I was curious how they worked. He replaced the front door deadbolt lock and fixed our antiquated (90 year old) door lock on our front door in our vintage condo unit. And he put in cylinders that matched the keys we have. I would certainly use them again.

They were extremely knowledgeable and it was clear they are experts in their field. Apparently they're the only locksmith in Chicago that can fix the 3 point lock that I have. John was very easy to work with and flexible. I also thought the pricing was very reasonable given that they had to come out 3 different times. I would definitely recommend them to others and will be using them again for any locksmith needs.

We had contacted 2 other locksmiths and were told that they couldn't come out for another 2 days, leaving us literally out in the cold. Then we contacted Collier and he arrived withing 30 minutes.
The technician was fantastic. He was prompt, courteous, and very professional. He was helpful in showing us how the previously broken lock got to be broken and how it could be fixed, and he then proceeded to fix it. He fixed it quickly, and the price was great as well.

John installed a lock for us in November 2010. By July 2011, it didn't work. He secretary told me the warranty had expired on the lock and that another service call would be full price. Seems like a new lock -- even a cheap one -- should last more than seven months.
I'm disappointed. I hope the locksmith I hired to clean up after John does a better job and will stand behind his products.

John Collier and his crew have provided locksmith services for me personally and for my clients on several occasions. They are prompt, friendly and their prices are extremely reasonable. If you are looking for a dependable local locksmith, these guys are the best! I've made the mistake of calling one of those 800 number providers and not only were they much more expensive, they screwed up several of the locks they were paid to re-key. Collier gets it right every time.

Originally, I tried to replace a strike plate on my 100+ year-old front door myself but ran into problems when the door mechanism jammed. That's when I called Collier. They fitted the strike plate and adjusted the door to accomodate it. They also cleaned and repaired the mechanism and put in a new lock. After examining the way the door closed, Collier also installed new hinges and adjusted the power closer. Then, a few weeks later, the door jammed again. Collier came out & fixed it, telling me that if the problem recurred, they would have to replace the whole mechanism, which would cost a few hundred bucks. A week later, the door jammed again. Collier took the whole mechanism back to the shop and kept it for a week. Rather than order a new mechanism, they repaired it by making a little spring--thus saving me a bundle! No problems since then--and the door has never worked better in the twelve years I lived here. Collier didn't charge a cent for any of the follow-up calls after the first visit.

I broke off the key in my Krytonite bike lock at the Loyola red line stop. I called Collier and set up a time to meet the next day. He arrived on-time and exhaused every option to free my bike. In the end he had to cut off the lock (good locks) but Kryptonite will replace the lock free of charge as it was their key that failed.

They charged me for a service call. The lock had stopped working and it was freezing outside. We were considering either replacing the whole door or replacing the whole lock. The other locksmiths that we had contacted in the area told us that they didn't fix that kind of door. Colliers were the only people in the entire area that would come and see us. The guy came out and looked at it. He could have told us anything. I don't know much about locks. Instead of telling us that we need a whole new lock or all the other work, he told us that there was nothing wrong with the lock. He pointed out a few things and gave me some tips on keeping the lock well-maintained. He told me that really the problem wasn't the lock but it was the keys. The keys were so old that they were worn down. He could have easily taken me to the cleaners and I would have replaced the entire lock or whatever else he told us. For the price of a service call, he educated me about care and maintenance of locks and keys.

The technician arrived on time and was cordial and friendly. He performed some work on the buzzer, and it seemed to work just fine. I paid him $125 for repairing the buzzer, and he told me that if I had any problems within 90 days to call him back. The very next day, the buzzer was no longer working. As this was a Sunday, I waited until Monday to call back. When I called on Monday I spoke with the technician and he said he would be able to come back that same day, or perhaps Tuesday. I told him either day was fine. He said he would call me back later in the day and let me know. I never heard back from him Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. I finally called back on Wednesday. I spoke with the receptionist and was at first told that he had already come and fixed it on Monday. This was news to me as I had never received a phone call and the buzzer was still not working. After I verified that the buzzer was still not working I called back and was told that in fact no one had come on Monday, but that someone would be there on Wednesday afternoon. However, no one ever showed up and I never received a phone call. Luckily they had not cashed the check yet, and I was able to stop payment on the check. I am obviously extremely frustrated with this company as I feel that they do not stand behind their word and they gave me the brush off. I would not recommend dealing with this company.

I had known that there was a locksmith near to my house, but they had moved. I located them through Angie's List and the owner came over to look at the doors and locks that afternoon. He scheduled one of his men to come and change the locks and cut new keys. We talked about add-on security features (which I initiated) and the work was completed on the lock replacement that afternoon. The expectation is that he will set up a security system in the near future.

I called somebody else some time ago to fix the lock, and the last company I called didn't seem to know what they were doing. The people from Collier really seemed to know what they were doing, and they were able to fix the lock completely. The house is old, and I was impressed that they were able to fix the lock. They responded immediately, and they were very good and very professional. The two men were part of a union, and they even gave me cards to pass out to people so I knew they were an established company. I was very happy with them and will absolutely use them again.

These guys patiently troubleshot our broken buzzer system, replacing or repairing the various buzzers in the building as needed. The only issue I had was a couple of times (it was a multi-day project) I expected them to be working they didn't have the parts and weren't coming. They should have called, but it wasn't a huge deal. Their price was more competitive than other places I called and both the owner and the technicians were friendly. I'll definitely use them again.
