This company is top notch!!! I feel so lucky that I found them. They were so professional and did such an amazing job, not to mention they are the nicest guys to work with. Their price was very competitive and they have a lot of experience with restoring original woodwork. They are my go so for all my wood stripping needs! Don't hesitate and give them a call - you will be happy you did.

Darrell did an amazing job on stripping all of the windows and doors in our 100 year old condo. His crew was very professional and worked hard. Price was reasonable. Would definitely hire again.

Wonderful! We had five doors in which Darrell removed and dip stripped. We also had a crew come in and strip approximately 17 windows. It took them a little over a week but they stuck with the job and worked very hard. Much better price quote than other companies and excellent quality. Just finished an entire rehab of a house and of the 10 tradesmen we hired, they are one of the three we would happily invite back.

Darrell's bid came in considerably lower than his competitors. It's a family business. He and his brother Norman came in and worked five days solid - Saturday and Sunday - to get through 15 layers of paint. Some of it was lead paint, some of it was milk paint. The did an amazing job. Now we have the natural birch wood throughout the room and are planning on hiring them to strip all the birch in the entry of our 100 year old Oak Park home. One day one of their vehicles broke down. They called the repair shop and then rode the bus to get to our house and continue on the job. That's dedication.
They are reliable, dependable, work extremely hard, and do a top notch job. These guys are the real deal.

We are getting all the windows and doors from our 1880 house stripped.   Each has MANY years old paint on them.   They have done a good job of removing the old paint from these.

Normally these are completed in a week.

Call before you go there as they are not always open during their stated hours.

They state that they are willing to pick up or do on site too, but we have always brought everything there.

Overall, I thought Darelle did a good job until my professional painter showed up to apply stain to the trim.  He noticed that there was still stripping chemical in nooks of the wood, and said the stain won't take to those nooks of the wood.  So, now my painter has to go back and prep the wood properly.  The old stain was in pretty rough shape, but if all this company does is strip wood down to the natural wood, then it should be done right.

Now, Darelle did meet me when the job was finished to see how I liked it.  To an untrained eye, I thought he did a good job.  But, obviously, I am not a professional or tradesman.

The frame turned out ok, but they had to take the door off three times because the kept using the wrong paint, and did a terrible job painting. They used a roller on the wood door, twice. They would show up, take my door off, which meant i had no door for a full day. This happened three times, they still got it wrong. Very, very frustrating to have 3 days of no door, and poor, poor quality work.

Excellent work!  Darrell was very prompt!  He arrived at my home within 2 hours after I discussed the job with him on the phone on December 30, picked up the doors, and promised to return them on December 31 about 10:30 a.m.  He did exactly what he said and when!  The doors turned out beautifully.  I definitely would use him again for other wood stripping jobs that may come up.  I recommend him very highly!

I brought the dresser to Darrell's workshop.  He removed the dresser from my car, gave me a price for the work, and a date that it would be finished.  When I called to check to see if the work was finished, he answered promptly and said that the dresser was ready.  When I went to his shop, he placed the dresser in my car and we discussed future projects I had in mind.

Darrell did a wonderful job on these doors, we had 4 done.  He returned them looking beautiful, clean and smooth - we only had to sand, stain and protect - they are gorgeous.  We intend to have Darrell do the rest of of our condo in the new year, and i've recommended him to friends and family.

Darrel Givens and his brother were skilled, hardworking, good-humored, punctual, perfectionist professionals at a craft that they clearly love despite the sometimes unpleasant working conditions. They wer neat and took care not to damage floors or nearby walls with chemical stripper or removed paint.  According to our needs, they did much work on siste but removed pieces, like some doors and the bannister, when it would be easier and cheaper to use the stripping tanks in their shop. On the whole, their rates seemed very reasonable. They were great people to work with and have performing the work, and i would recommend them without reservatiion.

This is the second time we used Chicago Wood Strippers.  We are down the street from them so they offered to pick up and drop off the doors at no additional cost.  He called each time he was on his way to verify we were home and available.  We were in no rush for the doors, he brought them back two days after he picked them up.  Overall we are pleased with the service and quality of work.

First of all, I was so impressed by Darryl five years ago that I kept his number in my cell phone until I had the money for him to do this job! Darryl's prices are really great, and he has over 25 years of experience... he's also a super nice guy.  This is the kind of person I want working in my home--  friendly, responsible, punctual, trustworthy guy.   I was impressed by him five years ago, and now that he is actually doing the work...well, I am even more impressed!

As I mentioned above, this job is a big one, as 80 years of paint have piled up, and under that is a heavy sealant.

My neighbor tried to do this job himself, and it took him a week to do one tiny area. He gave up after that week, and I decided to learn from his experience- ie, there was no way I was going to do the work myself!  (And I usually do! But wood stripping is in its own category of difficulty..)  So I finally called Darryl, and I am so happy I decided to go ahead with this plan. The wood is beautiful.  My kitchen--which had been kind of dull- now has a warmth and dimension to it that I hadn't really imagined...and the wood hasn't even been refinished yet!   The windows had gotten so clogged up with paint and cracks that I thought there was no hope for them. But now, without the paint,  the beautiful birch  which is, amazingly, in near-perfect condition and the overall effect of the bare wood is much greater and cooler than I had imagined it would be.

I'm just pleased as punch...and I highly recommend Darryl-- and getting your woodwork stripped-- to anyone who's thinking about taking this step!!

He takes the trim out of my house and brings it, dips it and fixes it.  This is a cheaper way of refinishing it rather than stripping it on site. He is very easy to work. He was quick on the response. It was easy to schedule. He came out, picked the stuff up and he brought it back. There was no trouble at all. I would use this company in the future.

One of Darryl's workers left his company, so the work was accomplished on a Sunday rather than on the scheduled Saturday. Happy with the work, but it was more detailed than he expected, which caused him to raise his price. I probably would use him again as his prices are pretty reasonable, but just nail down the price first.

Fantastic work from great guys. Don't let their low key approach fool you - these pros know what they're doing, and go above and beyond to get the job done. I was so impressed by the skill and speed of their work. They were respectful of the age of the house (I have a 90 year old home) and cleaned up everything really well. My wall paint was even in decent shape after they were done (only a little bit of peeling around the tape lines) which surprised me given considering the brutal nature of the work. Would strongly recommend them.
