Burrows Moving Co

I love Burrows but they need to compensate me $275 for damage during a move. We've used them several times over the last several years in several moves, including just moving furniture up or down floors. I've recommended Burrows via FaceBook and to several friends over the years. I spent over $6,000, plus tips, with Burrows in June alone to move the contents of two storage facilities and a house to the suburbs. I loved the crew. But, during the move, they accidentally busted the frame of my expensive double stroller, which cost me $275 to replace. I've communicated with Koula at Burrows (who is very sweet) but is only authorized to provide me $100 in credit. I've reached out to her boss a couple of times, but he has yet to call me back. I only want to be compensated for the $275 and I will be happy to recommend Burrows once again. Burrows - Please call or email me back.

Burrows was the ONLY company in Chicago nearby who would even bother to come for a very small moving job. They were reasonably priced and sent two men who carefully wrapped the dressers before bringing them in. Would definitely hire them again!

They were extremely professional, careful with all of our crystal and china, and in addition they made a trip to our daughters house to help move some of our furniture to her house. They were very polite, professional, and accommodating!

I thought that the price was fair. Ultimately, the problem was they misestimated the size of the shipping which then, they did not have a big enough truck. So, everything did get moved on the same day. I guess to be fair to them; they had offered to have a van or something the following day. I just felt that trying to schedule that was going to be another problem so I tried moving it myself which was a bigger deal than what I realized. They should have estimated it correctly so then, there was not going to be a second day no matter how I did it because now I am kind of moving into my house.

The good, the bad and the ugly.
Starting with the bad: truck and crew of 4 arrived on time, at the "move to" rather than the "move from" address; fortunately, it was just across the street. Yet in this business, time is money, so the start time was  probably not really the start time as they had to drive around the block and back into the "move from" driveway.
The ugly: these guys were in a hurry and careless.  I never trust movers who arrive in sneakers.  Before the ONE fragile item I left for these movers was even wrapped, the crew chief backed into it and smashed it to bits. A family-heirloom (1930's) floor lamp of about 6' encased in etched glass. I couldn't breathe. Irreplaceable, gone forever. No point in making a scene. I was left to clean up hundreds of shards of glass while crew continued to zip through wrapping other things.   Also, found coffee table was chipped in moving. They chipped and scraped hallway paint  in both locations.
 I did not purchase Burrow's more expensive insurance,  went with their .30 per pound for damage. But again, for the lamp, $5.00 would not be much. I tipped these guys generously considering they were not the professional movers I had experienced with Burrows in the past. They were nice enough, but I didn't hire them for their niceness. I'd go for surly competence over incompetent niceness.
The good:  The day after the broken lamp, Burrows called to take $150 off the cost of the move. This was for the broken lamp and also because I phoned them first and said Angie's List and Yelp would hear about this careless unprofessionalism. So I am grateful for their understanding and compassion. Still, I should have done with this lamp what I did with all my other fragile items: move them myself.
Be informed: Burrows is under NEW management and they do not have their act together at all. In fact, after booking my move date 6 weeks in advance, they called to confirm the wrong date!  They used to employ uniformed guys who clearly were full time employees who did this for a living. No more, it seems. So all the awards, etc you see on Angie's List and BBB, it's old stuff and does not reflect current service level. There are maybe two office employees remaining from the old management. If you want to do business with them, talk to Karen, she knows what she's talking about.

They moved boxes from my house on my way to the storage unit it took an hour and 15 minutes and the minimum price was $288 that was high

The move went very well.  The movers showed up right at 9 a.m. when they were suppose to and worked continuously until 6 p.m.  The movers were friendly, contentious and hardworking.  My items were handled carefully and packed well.  I did much of my packing, but they wrapped all of the furniture and other items that were not already boxed.  They listened to my concerns and although worked very fast, they put things where I requested.  Overall it was a great experience.

Arrived on time, friendly and professional. I was not moving everything so had to be specific as to what to leave behind.
They took great care in wrapping my antique furniture. Move went extremely smooth. Nothing damaged, nothing lost.
I like that there are no extra charges for packing materials or tape. Price was reasonable. It took 4 men 5 hours to move a 2 bedroom condo to a first floor flat.

They damaged two doors in a new dwelling here. They not only made good on it, but they actually replaced the doors with brand new doors, painted it and then brought them in and installed them. The owner, Mr. Burrows, came out to my home to observe what had happened. I would highly recommend this company. They did lose a piece of furniture and it took some doing to get them to replace it. They could not replace it because it was an heirloom piece in the sense that it was a small piece and was a family piece from 1980. It took a while but they finally reimbursed me for something that I replaced it with.

The guys were great. They were right on time, they were completely professional and worked hard.
Everything arrived in perfect condition.
I would hire these guys again in a minute.
I should also mention that I had trouble finding movers 2 weeks before this move. I probably called about 7 different places. I'm so glad the other places were booked solid and that Burrows was able to 'squeeze' me in.Very happy.

The movers were prompt and extremely courteous.  They did the work quickly and efficiently and were very pleasant.  They came in under their time budget and therefore under the estimate.  I used them in the past for our last office move and will use them again soon.  Great experience.

They were a little late but as soon as they arrived got right to work. Entire team was polite and friendly.  They all introduced themselves and asked questions to clarify all aspects of the job.  We have young children and they worked around their schedule without hesitation(or any sign of irritation).  They were fast! We started after 8 and were done in the new house before 4.  They placed furniture exactly where requested and were more than happy to move/adjust.  These guys really know what they are doing and they all seem to like their job which is nice.   I like that the quote is per hour and there are not hidden fees like tape, shrink wrap etc.  They were honest and prorated time for one of the team members who came late.  I probably would not have noticed that on the bill but they made note that we were not charged the full price for the time the team was not all there.  They came in under the estimate given to us in both time and cost.  We will use them again in the future.

From initial contact, Burrows is professional and courteous.  Always responsive to questions and very helpful.  THEY ARE NOT THE LEAST EXPENSIVE, BUT NOT THE MOST EXPENSIVE EITHER.   What i particularly liked was that everything was included in the price that they quoted; no nickel and dime charges that accumulate about wrapping wooden furniture, shrink wrapping upholstered pieces, etc.  Other moving companies did not quote like that; there was always a panoply of additional charges which, I just don't go for.
On moving day, they were on time, and got right to it.  No complaints about how they moved my things or the time it took them to empty my residence.   In dealing with the company, issues were dealt with immediately, calmly, and respectfully.  I would highly recommend Burrows to anyone who is considering using a moving company.  There are for sure less expensive "companies" out there, and it's always a crap shoot, but since you know that this company is reputable and fair, why go elsewhere?

Overall, the move went well.  The guys were on time, friendly and seemed to know what they were doing.  What didn't go well was the fact that there was a stain on my couch after the move that wasn't there that morning, as far as I know.  I told them at the end of the move and one of the guys said it was there when he moved it in the morning, but he forgot to show it to me.  I spoke on the phone with two men at the office later that week. One denied responsibility because his worker said it was already there.  The other offered to pay the $40 bill to clean it.  I never received a check and it's 3 months later, so I let it go.   Yes, it was only $40, but I didn't make the stain. so I don't see why I should have to pay for it.  Whatever happened to the "customer is always right"?  I won't recommend them in the future.
