We contracted B. Allendorfer Co at the recommendation of a home inspector. It was a huge mistake. We were told several times by Phil Figaro that work would begin "in a couple weeks" only to have weeks go by after that with no communication. Finally after 6 months of waiting and failed promises they showed up. They installed the roof over the course of three days, but did not install the gutter. It rained that weekend. We had water coming in the back windows of our two-flat and our back yard was flooded. They returned several days later to install the gutter and downspout, but the downspout was not installed correctly and now leaks. During this process Ryan from their office contacted us requesting final payment. They had included tuckpointing for the chimney in the quote/contract, but had not done the tuckpointing work and I had to call them out for not completing the job. After all the issues, Brian Allendorfer (the owner) came to our house to do a final walk-through. He promised me to my face that he would have a team fix the gutter that continues to leak. It has been 12 weeks since that day and we have not seen any work done, despite several unanswered emails asking for an update.

I wasn't very impressed by the work. They came out and looked at my skylight and told me I needed to get a new one. They did some repairs around it, its leaking now. I wouldn't recommend them.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It went fine. As it turned out, they inspected and didn't find any fault that needed to be dealt with. The fact that they said, You're fine, showed that they knew what they were doing and weren't just looking to upsell me. He pointed out one or two little flashing problems and then said, We can do it if you want, but whatever, you're fine, and then I ended up having them take care of it. I actually was surprised they have been followed up. I own a business too and if I were them I would follow up with me, but beyond that, they seemed honest. I remember the scheduling being not an issue at all. They were efficient, the guy who came by seemed competent, and I did not have too much of a deeper experience than that. Overall experience was fine.

We loved Brian Allendorfer. He was always very professional, very nice man & was always there to answer any of our questions. We used them several times for our condo building. His employees were great & were also very professional. Although his prices were higher than most, we felt he was worth every penny of it. Unfortunately, Brian had a horrible accident where he fell off a 10 story building & hurt several major organs. While he was out, we had to work with some of the other B Allendorfer's workers, which in my opinion were not up to Brian's usual standards. We needed his company to dismantle a glass partition on a 5th floor deck & re apply the top of the wall & we were disappointed with the job. The workers had to re do the job several times because of the sloppiness & the esthitics.  Now that Brian is recovering, we hope he can be back with the same quality we were used to. We don't feel it was Brian Allendorfer's fault that his workers wern't as compitent as he is & I would never hold that against him.

While we had a minor scheduling problem, they did come out to do the work which we appreciatedas it was a small job. While they were on the roof, we also hired them to do some external painting. They did a great job and charged a very fair and affordable price. Their team was very friendly and nice to work with. I would use them again!

Went quick and easy and appears to be a good job.  They finished in less than a day while we were on vacation.  In fact, they were also hired by our neighbor for a side job.

I was also told that once they came out to do the caulking they would have someone come out with a ladder to check the roof. Apparently, the original estimator did not have a ladder high enough, but I suspect he just didn't want to be bothered to get on the roof himself.
I rec'd the estimate and items were left off that I had requested - specific windows to be caulked, etc.The estimate was revised and the job was approved. I wasn't able to be here when they came to do the work. When I got back, I noticed that the windows I had specified to be caulked had not. I called and they said they would send the original estimator back out. He reviewed the work  3 days later and then tried to tell me that they weren't planning on caulking everything until I reminded him of the revised estimate. The work was done that day and appeared to be well done.
I was told that they inspected the roof on 10/29 and would get back to me with their recommendations. I'm still waiting. I have emailed and called them several times, but have yet to hear back from them a month later.
This company should not be confused with Allendorfer Roofing - THEY ARE NOT THE SAME COMPANY.

Thank goodness for Brian Allendorfer Roofing and Masonry. I live in a 6 unit condo building which is just over 10 years old. The flat roof was of poor construction. Last summer one of the 3rd floor units had significant damage due to water coming in from the roof leaks and we realized we needed not only a new roof but a rebuild of the 6 foot masonry parapet. As a self-managed condo association, we had no less than 6 different roofers and masonry companies bid on the roofing and masonry re-work. From the outset Brian Allendorfer stood out. Brian provided a very detailed masonry and roofing estimate. He came to several of our evening condo meetings to answer various questions. More than that, he and his team were able to deal with some particularly difficult and picky residents. I think many companies would have walked, but Brian continued to work with us. Many Chicago area condos sustained hail damage in early 2011, so they were backlogged as it was, yet he worked with us. Brian was able to get our 2-week long project in before winter set in, a true feat given the length of time our association spent vetting and working through the various proposals. I can’t say enough how glad I am we choose Brian Allendorfer to do the work. He and his team were professional, always positive, and very responsive throughout the process. I would highly recommend Brain Allendorfer for any roofing and masonry work.

The crew arrived on time and were very professional and efficient. The cleaned up all their scraps and did a thorough job.  We no longer have any leaks in the ceilings.  All in all it was a well down job.

After several attempts to have them come out to look at the roof they had to keep rescheduling due to weather and unexpected delays on other jobs.  When I complained about this a few months later, Brian Allendorfer Jr. immediately came out to my house and looked things over with me.

He apologized for the initial trouble scheduling a time and explained that someone had been out to look at the roof when I wasn't home and found more work than the Big Deal accounted for but they  failed to follow up with me so I could explain what I wanted to do.

We discussed the work and he agreed to fix all the problem areas for no extra charge because of this delay and confusion about the job. They did a fantastic job!  I am really pleased with the quality of the repair work they performed and they really went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied.
In the end I think they spent closer to 5 or 6 hours doing various repair work on my roof so we can get a few more good years out of it before we need to replace it.  I will definitely call them again when it is time to replace it.

I purchased the $199 Big Deal and within 30 minutes was able to schedule an appointment for the repair within the next week.  The 2-man roofing crew (Supervisor: Manny) arrived 10 minutes early and met with me to discuss what problems we had.   The deal called for 2 hours total (1hr per person), however Manny and his partner spent an extra 20 minutes working to finish replacing all the necessary shingles.    When they were done, they were professional and cleaned up all the shingles that fell and returned the extra shingles to the storage area.

The repair seemed sufficient though it has been hard to tell because the rains we were having greatly diminished and the leak stopped.

The request for an estimate was not responded to by the company.  Finally, after several phone calls, a representative came out and looked at the roof.  He told me that the roof was in a state of deterioration caused by the shingles breaking down prematurely.  He also told me that the manufacturer had some sort of claim program to receive partial payment for their faulty materials.  In any case, he said that a proposal for the replacement of the roof would be out in a few days via mail or email.

The proposal was eventually emailed to me in November, 2011.

I had purchased Brian Allendorfer's last Big Deal for $199 for Roof Maintenance and unfortunately had a very poor experience.  We could not find a date that worked for quite a while which is understandable given the amount of people who purchased the last Big Deal, however the problems really started when he finally did send someone out to look at our roof.  The guy Allendorfer sent out came on a Monday afternoon when only one person was home at our 4 unit condo building.  That person works from home, so they let the worker in and onto the roof for the inspection.  After worker was finished, he did not speak to anyone before he left about what he saw or if he was concerned about anything.  I subsequently have called Allendorfer 4-5 times, spoke to them and asked for a report so I could report back to my condo association on the findings/recommendations and have repeatedly been told that "I'll get back to you.....or he must not have found anything concerning or he would have told me about it and recommended further follow up."  I just cannot accept that answer and certainly my condo association cannot accept the fact that we paid $199 and could not even get a 1-2 page report of what was in good condition, what was wearing down, etc...

I feel luck to only be "out" $199, and really hope someone does not plop down over $6,000 on this company that seems to in over its head with these Big Deals where it has significantly affected their execution, customer service and follow up.  Buyer Beware!

My experience with this company is that they are utterly honest and dependable, though their costs are at the upper end of the scale.  Still, it’s a matter of getting what you pay for.  When we bought our first house in Chicago in 1997, Windward Roofing inspected our roof and told us it needed a total replacement and gave us a quote.  Allendorfer looked at it and told us all we needed was a little replacement flashing around the vent stacks and one or two other small things, and that we had at least 5-7 years left on doing the replacement.  That’s when they won my gratitude and my allegiance, because how would I have known otherwise?  So when our current house needed to be reroofed 4 years ago, I duly got a couple of quotes, but I didn’t seriously think about having anyone else do the job.  Their quote was a bit higher, but their estimate was more thorough, detailed, and intelligible than the competition.  A year later, I had them do the garage, too.
