First the owner/manager explained their requirements and procedure well in advance of the move. She described and suggested a number of aids that would make the move more efficient and trouble free. It was a moderately small move so not much was needed. On the day of the move three movers arrived on schedule, assessed the situation then proceeded to load the truck. The truck had adequate space for the move thanks to information requested and provided to the manager during the pre-move interview. In total the entire move required approximately 3 hour from start to finish. The movers were very professional, courteous, and considerate. Nothing was lost or damage. At he new apartment they even assisted in unpacking and re-assembling the delicate items like the large mirror from my mother-in-law dresses. They even assisted us in reassembling the queen sized bed.

They were professional, organized and took good care of my things. They were on time and went above and beyond.

They did a great job and moved about 500 books for me as my other things. They came on time, were courteous and professional. I would use them again.

This was the smoothest out-of-state move EVER! The Chicago crew was prompt, curteous and extremely professional. They took care in wrapping all of my furniture and used the least amount of packing materials stay within the estimate. The main office called me a few days later to let me know that my furniture might be a day late in arriving. When i explained my new buildings strict move-in policy and that moves could only take place on 2 specific days of the week, they made all of the necessary adjustments to deliver on the original date. The New York crew was just as prompt, curteous and professional. They carefully unloaded everything and placed it exactly where I specified - even moved a few things when I changed my mind. I was extremely impressed with their service from beginning to end. I have endured some nightmare moves, but this one made up for them all. I highly recommend them for out-of-state moves!!!

It was okay, they did break a mirror but it was alright.

The move itself was very smooth and easy.  The crew arrived on time and clearly communicated their plans to me.  They worked quickly and completed the move within the estimated timeframe.  The crew was friendly and respectful.  
The price quoted by Bernard Movers was in line with the price quoted by other moving companies, but they charged more for certain extras such as wardrobe boxes and extra travel time.  The lady at their office explained that these fees are registered with the state and cannot be changed.  Overall, the cost difference probably was probably not significant, but I wish they could have been a bit more flexible.  
Overall, I was happy with my experience.

It was very nice. It went way better than what I thought. They were very gentle and treated the furniture like their own. I already recommended them to other people.

Moves are hard and moving is a lot of work. It's taxing on most people so I think it's hard for most to look back and say "That was great!"
Lynn Bernard is easy to work with. She was helpful and responsive and quickly responded to emails and requests from my building for an insurance certificate.
We hired 4 movers and were told it typically takes 6-8 hours. Our move took the full 8 hours. The move started out fine. The guys were quickly gathering our packed boxes and loading them up in the truck. We got on the road and received a text that they were going to pick up food in a drive-thru. I was completely fine with that, however, I did not know that they would be taking a half hour break. I thought they would be eating on the go. After our arrival, we were waiting at the house for a good 15-20 minutes or so with no sign of them; I texted them asking "how it was going" thinking maybe they got traffic or missed the exit or something...But they replied that they were at an intersection really nearby. It still took a good 15-20 minutes for them to finally show up at the house after that text. Moving is hard work so I know they need a break but it was just surprising to not know about the break and be waiting around worrying that something happened. (It should be noted that they did take 30 minutes off of the bill to account for the break.)
We felt the move was dragging on so we had them just load all the boxes into our front room instead of into assigned rooms. Some of the larger items we did have them put in specific rooms but the majority of our boxes went right into the front room.  
All of this would have been fine and considered a decent move... but now that we're unpacking, we're finding little things that aren't great. Our wooden dining/kitchen table has a chipped corner and now has a bright "raw wood" corner rather than the dark stain finish; another piece of furniture had packing tape stuck right on the finish so it took off the finish when we peeled off the tape; and several of the shelves took time to relocate. This is perhaps what's annoying me the most. I understand that they need to take the shelves out but some of the pegs were also removed (again, that's fine) but they are nowhere to be found. The mover for some shelves was able to table the bundle of pegs right on the shelf but others are just missing. It's really hard to unpack when you can't put your furniture back together again.

Edited to add: We finally found some of the shelving pins tucked away in a completely random box that we use to store our children's old artwork and report cards, which is why it was never unpacked. We just happened to be looking through the art. And we also finally found our ironing board, which was broken in half and tucked away in our garage.

First off - Lynn is super great to work with and communicate with and I had worked with her decades earlier - so she knows what she is doing.
They sent an extra truck and an extra man for no extra charges which blew me away. This caused them to get our move completed in an extremely short amount of time. Thankfully my wife was organized to keep up with them.
I had gotten more than three other quotes and they were nice companies but Bernard's was just a class better than them all.
I highly recommend anyone moving in the Chicagoland area to call them and check them out.
Will probably use them myself again in 2015.
All the men were very polite and my wife was very happy overall.
We have some Ethan Allen furniture and it was moved without any damage.

Bernard Movers moved my parents from my house in Geneva, IL to Vero Beach, Florida.  They were great from beginning to finish.  We checked out a lot of movers and even some brokers.  It was difficult if not impossible to find a mover with good feedback.  Bernard Movers was a little on the higher side for price but you get what you pay for.  I did not want a mover where there would be any problems since my parents are elderly and cannot deal with any stress.  Bernard Movers made it stress free.  They were very careful loading things and took great care to make sure that everything we packed would make it in one piece.  Two weeks later everything arrived in Vero Beach, FL and nothing was damaged.  They were professional and courteous and there were no hidden charges.  Many of the other movers may have been cheaper but complaints included broken items and hidden charges.  So at the end of the day when you take all things into consideration they deserve an A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It was the worst move I've ever had in my entire life. They damaged our furniture and the walls. They didn't even put the legs back on the couch and taken the TV out of the box. I've moved about 15 times in the last 20 years and I've never had something this bad. They worked hard, but I think the guys were probably college or high school students working for the summer, so they were not professionals and didn't have the experience. They were leaning against the wall, so there were marks and they also scratched up a door. Even the people from the company were shocked by the extent of the damage when they came to take photographs. We are negotiating with them right now over the damage they did and are trying to make it right for us.

This was our third move while living in the city and it was by far the least painful.  Moves are never easy, but this one came close.  We used the same movers for our previous two moves and were unhappy each time because of how late they showed up to the job.  We decided to find someone new.  Bernard movers was not only on time, but early.  They gave us a 8:30am-9:00am window and called my cell at 8:22 to say they arrive, I couldn't actually believe it.  They were quick, careful and courteous.  Lynn, who booked the move, is a professional and does her job well.  I would use them again and highly recommend them, nothing bad to say.

They were awesome.  Jose, Vinny and Gus were the 3 guys who came to my rescue.  They were polite and professional and had great attitudes.  They actually thanked me for having moved some of my stuff downstairs already (not get p***** off like the "other" bad company did.  They busted their gut to make this job go so smoothly.  They had my job done in 2 hours and that includes travel time from Forest Park, IL to Naperville, IL. 
I will recommend this company to everyone I know.  Nancy the owner went above and beyond trying to help me out of the pickle I was in.  June is one of the busiest months for moving, so to be stranded without a truck on your move day is pretty scary, but Bernards came through and my experience was actually a pleasure and they were a pleasure to deal with.

I thought that they were very fast and efficient. I felt that the price was fair. I shopped a lot of movers before deciding on them.

I HAVE USED BERNARD MOVERS MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE PAST AND HAVE BEEN SATISFIED. HOWEVER, I RECENTLY USED THEM TO MOVE AND, AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE, WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. THE MOVERS ARRIVED SEVERAL HOURS LATE, THEY TOOK MULTIPLE BREAKS EVEN THOUGH I WAS PAYING BY THE HOUR, THEY SLID BOXES ACROSS HARD WOOD FLOORS (LEAVING SCRATCHES), THEY DAMAGED MY WALLS BY BANGING FURNITURE AGAINST THEM, AND TO TOP EVERYTHING OFF, THEY LOST SOME OF MY POSSESSIONS AND HAVE FAILED TO RETURN MY PHONE CALLS.

TOOK LONGER THAN NECESSARY. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. ALWAYS GOT VOICEMAIL WHEN I CALLED.
