John is personable and fastidious, he went above and beyond to do things right and is reasonable. I was very very pleased. I would have him back again.

John is a meticulous worker and obviously takes a lot of pride in his work. Competent, experienced, pays attention to detail. He even worked on the weekend to help speed the project along. The unit looked fantastic when he was finished. It actually exceeded our expectations. I will hire him again!

John was excellent. He touched up and applied a coat of poly to our front door and it came out great. Fiberglass is difficult to touch up and the stain he brought didn't work well. Given the quote he gave was primarily for the poly application and only for very minor touch up, he could have left it at that and done an acceptable but mediocre job. But he took the time to go back to the hardware store and found something that worked perfectly. He went well beyond the time I expect he assumed when he quoted this small job. He showed a conscientiousness, ingenuity and commitment to do the job right that makes me comfortable in using him again for bigger jobs in the future. I highly recommend him.

John is fantastic to work with. We hired John in 2020 for some tricky lighting and fan work on 15’ cathedral ceilings. Most other contractors turned the job down because the ceilings were too tall, but not John! He replaced multiple track lights with recessed lights, installed two drop fans, and a pendant light plus a chandelier. Many lights had to be moved along with their electrical boxes and new wires. John was communicative, very insightful, and kept us in the know while we tried to stay out of his way. I’ll be going with John when we’re ready to update our guest bathroom and cannot wait until we cross paths again! Highly recommend John’s services for any contracting work you need help with around the house.

It went well. He came over and looked over what I had in mind and figured out the best way to implement. He completed everything same day and did an amazing job. It’s not easy hanging something that’s over 80 lbs in a small room but he did professional grade work. Very polite and nice man, easy to work with.

John is very professional and does excellent work! He goes above and beyond expectations making sure that the job is done right inside and out! We needed to move some electrical around for our beverage center and he came out on a Sunday to make sure it was done and ready for installation the next day. He also patch the wall beautifully, which in my experience with other electricians has not been the case. Will hire him again and again.

John did a fantastic job. He was the first to respond to our calls. He provided an estimate the next day, and started work a couple of days later. Despite encountering some unexpected difficulties (typical of an old house), he persevered and accomplished everything. Throughout the entire process he was very professional, honest, and communicative. We will definitely use John again, and would highly recommend him to anyone.

John was great - very professional, responsive, and did quality work. We have a baby at home so he was very mindful and accommodating to noise and the baby's schedule. He provided an estimate, and stuck to it which is important. Will definitely use John again in the future.

John did a great job remodeling our hallway bathroom. His work included removing tiles on the floor and around the tub, correcting flaws in the sub-floor, correcting for a misaligned wall, reinforcing pipe supports, and installing new tiles. He also installed towel and soap racks, a new light fixture, a new shower head, a new toilet seal, a new vanity, touched up some paint, and fabricated a new tight-fitting wood threshold. During the project, John offered excellent guidance about tile choices and came up with thoughtful workarounds for some pre-existing quirks in our 125-year-old building. We were very pleased with his strong work ethic, pleasant manner, and fair pricing, and we would definitely recommend him to others.

It was much more complicated of an install that I originally thought. John was very nice and make sure I was comfortable with each step. Highly recommended!

John was immediate to come over- the next day after calling. He was pleasant and assessed the situation and said he needed to order parts. He kept me posted the next few days as to when the parts were arriving. He was so nice to work around my schedule and put my bed together while I was at work. I was delighted to come home to my bed assembled perfectly. I would suggest him to anyone and I hope to hire him again in the future!

My previous faucet was faulty and the disposal was eroded at bottom so it started to leak. So I needed to find plumber right away. After calling a few places I found John and his price was very reasonable considering there was a special price on Angie's list for $185 Garbage Disposal Installation. And the same price for faucet installation. I jumped on that right away because a few other places were charging outrageous prices. John was very quick to respond and answered all my questions thoroughly even before I hired him. He even brought me a couple disposal options to choose from along with the receipts. He was very honest and knowledgeable. Once he started it only took him about 3-4 hours to complete both projects. Apparently the plumbing under my sink was never done properly but he was able to work around the difficulties. He explained the everything to me so I was able to understand what was going on and he guarantees his work for a year. I'm very pleased with his work and professionalism. I'm excited to have a working disposal and a perfectly functioning faucet thanks to John. I would recommend his services to anyone who needs plumbing work done.

Working with John, from Bates Remodeling, was the absolute BEST experience I have ever had with a contractor. He was a lifesaver for me! Before Bates Remodeling, I had previously hired another contractor to complete my project. The previous contractor installed the shelving and cabinets in a really unsafe way and left them looking unfinished, took my payment and then refused to return and finish and fix the project after already taking my money. When the old contractor bailed, I was three days from the grand opening of my new office with shoddy and unfinished shelving that I was worried would topple over on my clients at any moment. I really had no idea how I was going to get this fixed before my office opened. Luckily, I found John at Bates Remodeling and explained my dilemma and time constraints. Within an hour of contacting John, he came to my office (on a Thursday night) to look at the project, gave me a quote and told me he would start the next day in order to have my office finished for my grand opening! John worked through the entire weekend in order to have my built-ins complete by Monday morning. Not only did he work quickly but he was very attentive to detail! Because I was under such pressure to complete the project, John agreed to paint the shelving for me too. John is very knowledgable about his work, took the time to explain exactly what he would do before starting the project, answered my questions throughout the process and completed the work within the time he quoted. And the work looks AMAZING!!! In addition, John is pleasant to be around, honest and charges very reasonable prices! The amount he quoted to deconstruct the mess my previous contractor had left, do the entire project and paint my shelving ended up costing less than my previous contractor charged me for shoddy work that did not include painting! I would absolutely recommend John! I have actually used him several times for several other projects and have had only amazing experiences in working with him! I've recommended him to many of my friends and family who have had the same experience with him. You will not be sorry if you hire Bates Remodeling!

John was great, he went out of his way to accommodate me on such short notice. He communicated clearly, arrived promptly, went immediately to work, and even cleaned up after himself!!! Nice hardworking man. I appreciate that he helped me at the last minute so to speak so as to get my condo ready for an open house.

It was fantastic. John was meticulous in his work! I was hoping to get it done in 2-3 weeks, and it took a little longer than that, but only because he is so thorough and detail oriented. It was well worth the extra week though, because the job quality was fantastic and the townhome looked great. He was also able to save me money by repairing some wood window frames so that I did not have to purchase entire new ones. The home looked so good, that I received 2 offers within 72 hours of the first showings (one at full price).

It was a great project. John was prompt and professional. His work was completed with great detail and care. The tile looks amazing and we will definitely use them on other jobs we plan for our home.

John is a very high quality handyman. He's honest, reliable, and affordable. He's a nice guy with a good positive attitude. He will be my go-to person for my all of my home improvement / repair needs. He does all the work himself. He also cares about small details and wants to get things done just right, and so for these reasons, he may take longer than other contractors, but if you have time, it's worth it. I like that he was willing to talk me through every single thing he was doing.

John was very professional and trustworthy while doing the work in our house. He was honest and always gave us choices in what was happening. Very transparent in the cost as well. He never seemed rushed and wanted a perfect end result. Would hire again.

It couldn't have gone better. He is a consummate professional. He is honest, hard working, fairly priced, and incredibly knowledgeable. Throughout the repair process he even did extra things we needed around the house - painted our undamaged closets, hung light fixtures, fixed an exterior door, fixed an outside water leaking issue, and even showed me how to install a new kitchen sink, and how to work on even more electrical on my own. The flooring, walls, ceilings, trim, painting -- everything was immaculate. He never complained, did everything with a smile, and even made sure our dogs were taken care of while he was working (and we were away at work), which made my wife very happy. At this point I would sincerely call him a friend, and one who will show up even at a moment's notice to take a look at what problem I might be having around the house.

Wonderful! John is a really hard worker and doesn't take any shortcuts. He has stayed late to help us finish work that needed to be done on a deadline, he does beautiful work at an affordable price. It's wonderful having a trustworthy handyman who is so talented.
